Bring the old man out of retirement...\r \r I keep going back hoping for one day to have a meal like everyday during the 80's and 90's when the old man was there everyday at the register with a genuine heartfelt ""HELLO HOW ARE YOU AND A GENUINE SMILE"" his food then was amazing everyday no matter what you ordered from hombre pobre to a fresh sea bass or filet or his famous black beans and rice garbanzos Now the only guarantee when you go there is the $7 Cuban which the son has managed not to screw up !!! Hopefully the new generation manager which is very pleasant ""Julie"" will make some necessary changes in the kitchen and make the old man proud again. The staff although always changing except for Mary Beth is very nice but until the kitchen staff is overhauled I can not recommend Hugo's. I use to love going there and now unless im in the mood for a pressed cuban I just go down the street on Howard Ave. to one of the many other fresher better quality establishments. more

Great Spanish Food. 3/21/2011

We have been going to Hugo's for almost ten years now and have never been disappointed..The food has always been well prepared and the service prompt and friendly. Our teen-aged grandkids, who have dined in top restaurants in Europe , Canada and the orient, love coming here. A visit to Tampa would not be complete without a Cuban at Hugo's. more

Owner pretty much a complete douche! 1/7/2011

Hugos usually has pretty good food and the business I work at usually goes there to pick up lunch once a month or so. This time the food wasnt good at all. I called to ask for a credit because the food they sent us was pretty horrible and the owner was a complete douche about the whole thing. If they dont get your order right the first time dont expect them to admit it or even to remake the order because apparently they are always right and the customer is a complete moron. 37 years in business doesnt give you the right to treat customers like a-holes. more

Great Food For the Past 20 Years 3/15/2010

I have been going to Hugo's for years and years. We went there before the renovations when it was a hole in the wall place but the food was still great. The atmosphere is improved and the food is still wonderful. My husband and I both got Milanesa Steak. We should have split one order. It took up the WHOLE plate and was so good. The black beans and yellow rice were perfect and we got a cuban sandwich to take back to our hotel for a late night snack (It is great! I am eating it now.)
