This is a great find. They have good food, reasonable prices, and nice atmosphere. Make sure you make a reservation if you are going around 8pm. It's my go to restaurant on Santa Monica and it works for just about any occasion. more

I come here quite frequently and the food has been consistent and delicious. I love the green drink....so delicious and very good for you (added bonus!) Now I can't speak for most of the items on the menu but I will speak for what I have had and usually stick to. The chicken ginger soup is very tasty and lite. I usually stay on the breakfast menu but ventured off to the lunch the last time. Got the avocado hummus wrap and was very pleased. It doesn't need as much cucumbers but that is so minor, you can pick them out if there is too much. The food I've had is a solid 5 stars by far So why the 4 stars? The staff. Mostly not the servers as they are pleasant but not very much. It comes down to the hostess. What is wrong with them with their rolling eyes and their attitudes?! One example..... A friend and I came here just a bit after 3pm, just at the end of the lunch rush so we got a 4 top and the crowd was dying down. We ordered smoothies, wraps and one dessert. The dining experience lasted just over an hour, maybe an hour and a half. We were catching up over life and some work stuff and it was closing in on 6pm (started to notice more people come in and the noise level rising). Now mind you, there were PLENTY of other open tables both inside and out but since I was sitting facing the host stand I notice things. Like the hostess pointing to our table (so subtle - not) and rolling her eyes. One thing people should remember that other people have worked in the service industry before, I know the tricks. Sending one of the other coworkers by to walk by and stare at the table then bee line back to the hostess where they try to cover their mouths and roll their eyes (all while looking directly at the table). WTH. If I didn't like coming here so much I would have walked up there and asked them if there was a problem. But why waste my time and energy on stupid people. Needless to say, we paid out $50+ tab and left. And no, we didn't take it out on the server as we gave her a $12 (though she disappeared over an hour before). more

Nice Pancakes! 7/8/2011

First time was good for me! I love breakfast with friends, just hanging out, eating and chatting. Saturday morning this is a fun place to hang out..if you can find a parking spot, be careful!!! (parking tickets are going through the roof these days.. you might find a space on Olive Ave) I am a nut for Orange anything and I had to have ""what he is having"" .. I saw this on my way in..Orange Cranberry Pancakes!! I am somewhat of a health nut.. and as much as I love to eat, I always keep in mind what I am putting in my body.. the food was great! The service was great and we hardly had to wait to find a seat.. This is a great choice for a fun breakfast! more

Always Wonderful... 11/26/2010

This is the first restaurant to which my dear friend brought me when I first moved to Hollywood. I have been going faithfully ever since... Delicious food, Incredible selection of Teas (which my mom LOVES whenever she visits), Vegetarian AND Carnivore friendly, Kind and Efficient Staff, Great for Locals and Tourists alike... Thank you, Hugo's... See you again very soon! more

Yum! 3/1/2009

This is a great place for breakfast! The strawberry chai pancakes are sooooo good, I also love the tofu scramble with spinach, mushrooms, garlic... I don't know what else but I wish I could cook like this! They have lots of healthy options, and some decadent stuff too if that's what you like, also great tea selection! Love this place!!! Pros: Amazing breakfast and teas! more

Good, healthy food with deli style setting 9/30/2008

This is one of the many brunch places I tried within a month span in West Hollywood. I loved the healthy, organic foods they offered. Loved my bloody mary, too. The food tasted very fresh. Not comfort food cause it was kinda healthy. I liked it, but you have to be in the mood. Good price and expect a deli, crowded atmosphere. Pros: Healthy, fresh food Cons: Crowded more

My favorite Breakfast Place - Good for Lunch too!! 3/26/2008

My favorite place to get breakfast in LA. The mimosa comes with a do it yourself kit of fresh squeezed OJ and a mini bottle of champagne. The food is organic and the restaurant is very big since the renovation, though the bathrooms are the sometimes typical onesies. The wait can get intense between 11am and 2pm on weekends, but the free and spacious parking out back makes up for the occasional wait. I am an eggs benedict man but the more California style breakfasts are delicious as well. Healthy eaters will find plenty to choose from. Great expresso too!!! more

Used to be good...sort of gone downhill... 3/26/2008

I used to eat here more than once a week, but ever since they re-opened after the remodel and everything I haven't been too impressed. The atmosphere and food suffer compared to what it used to be. It was always just a nice, casual place to grab a quick bite, but I don't find myself going unless I have to. more

Hugo's is a ""No-Goes"" for us 2/23/2008

I was surprised to read all of these positive reviews. I had breakfast there today and it was absolutely terrible. I had eggs benedict and I've seen and tasted better at a Denny's in the middle of Nebraska. My partner had some sort of tortilla egg scramble which was just indescribably odd, and the potatoes were dry and overcooked. While I'm at it, the coffee was terrible. I eat out a lot in a lot of different cities and countries, and I know good food. Hugo's doesn't have it... Hugo's is a no-goes for me! Pros: Cheerful atmosphere and fun to people watch Cons: Just don't expect to eat well... more

Love the Skirt Steak Vera Cruz 11/23/2007

Every few weeks, something or someone reminds me of Hugo's and I immediately begin to salivate. Almost invariably when I go to Hugo's in West Hollywood, I'll order the skirt steak vera cruz. It comes with a great dipping sauce with the perfect kick. The side dishes are great too, making for an overall great dinner. Order their strawberry shortcake (when in season) with the sweetened fruit glaze and you'll be in heaven. Generally the place is popular but not usually enough to have a wait. And somehow I always do find parking in back, which is absolutely necessary here in West Hollywood. In a word, a GO. Pros: Awesome dishes Cons: Ambience is a bit boring more

Beyond Breakfast 9/8/2007

Some of the best restaurants in LA are often indicated by how prepared you have to be in advance if you want to get a table. Hugo's is no exception (for breakfast anyway). It's been a neighborhood favorite FOREVER. And it's even better now. More light, airy, and comfortable (i love the booths--very ""in crowd""). Food's still great, maybe even better. I was always one to go in for breakfast, but with the fresh dinner and drink menu it makes for a great night spot too. Grab dinner, then go to whatever's next for you that night. I like that I can either eat comfort food (mmmm, mac n cheese) or something more healthy (love the salads!). They lean adventurous without going too far. And they do the muddled fruit & herb drink trend well (can you say Mojito). Pros: Good food, not super expensive Cons: west hollywood can be hard for parking, but they have a lot in back. more

Check It Out For Yourself 9/6/2007

In conjunction with the comment ""thinking twice before you eat at Hugo's,"" I went to the LA County Health website and looked up the violations myself. The vermin this person spoke of unfortunately are very hard to control. which is why the restaurant was closed, but it never said anything about ""prevention of entry,"" nor did it give exact reasons. It gives examples as to why they were in violation, but doesn't say specifically that they were using unclean untensils. In college, I worked as a server and as gross as it is, most restaurants have to struggle with controlling vermin. I eat at Hugo's regularly and was disappointed that it was closed for close to two months. During that time, they did a complete overhaul and remodel. The place looks great, but I think that it's louder now, which I'm not fond of. I was happy to see the same great menu and many of the same smiling faces. I can also say that I haven't seen a single insect, so I think that they have taken care of that problem. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Noise level, at night it's too dark more
