They Should Shutdown and Close its Doors Forever 4/19/2008

Last night was the first and last time I and several of my co-workers visited this establishment. The music was nice; however we had to pay a cover charge and had to look at the band on a TV screen. To me it should have been half price, because you are paying full price for half of a benefit. No big deal, however the service was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced in my adult life. \r \r It took 20 plus minutes for our drinks to come, and it was not that busy. The waitress brought out food that belonged to other guests, and she charged several of my colleagues for drinks they did not receive. One of use ordered a Sxx On the Beach, and the drink arrived 40 minutes later. Not to sound like an alcoholic, but how does an establishment that operates a bar, run out of Vodka? Imagine this, the waitress also mixed up the tickets, so I ended up paying for a member of my group, who already had paid and left. \r \r The manager eventually got involved, though he was nice; but unprofessional, and as useless as a bag of rocks,. A member of my group requested that we, in some form or fashion be compensated for the horrible service, but her request was denied. Of a group of 10 of us, none will ever patronize this establishment again, nor recommend anyone else at that matter. \r \r Even though fuel is high, we will sacrifice and go to The Jazz Cafe on South Tryon. A far superior establishment and better service. They can be a little slow at times, but they rank excellent, compared to what we experienced last night. more

Poor Customer Service - AGAIN! 3/30/2008

I tried the new location last night (3/29/08) hoping that the service would be better from my experience at the old location in Uptown. We were all extremely disappointed with the service and food at the new location. We paid a $10.00 cover charge to sit in a section where we could not see the band. We ordered drinks, three appetizers and one entree. The buffalo wings and mini shrimp came out at the same time. The wings were not heat hot and the shrimp tasted like grease. We ate all the food and still had not received the third appetizer or entree. When I asked the waiter (Anthony) he apologized but said there was a problem in the kitchen. We continued to wait for the food and I asked to see a manager around 9:30 p.m. Anthony said he kept asking the manager to come over but no one ever came. We all thought the waiter did a good job but he was overworked and had too many tables for one person to cover. By 10:45 p.m. we asked for the check and questioned why the manager had never come over. Anthony told us the party of 8 people next to us had just walked out without paying because they were disgruntled too. We stopped at the hostess desk and asked to see a manager. It took about 10-15 minutes for one to come. We expressed our concern to the manager and he apologized. He said he was asked to come to our table but he had been very busy and didn't have a chance to come until now. He said he couldn't do anything about food that had already been eaten. I told him at the very least we should be reimbursed for the cover charge. He said it was non-refundable. The bottom line is he was very disinterested in what we had to say. He acted as if we were bothering him and only apologized as opposed to offering us coupons towards another dinner. I have no plans to return to such a sorry establishment. A restaurant boasts about it's customer service and wonderful dining experience on the company website and telephone. I wonder why? more

Get your act together 3/16/2008

My husband and myself was so excitied to hear that the House of Jazz had moved to a nicer place on W.T. Harris. And when we arrived the place was gorgeous. We arrived the first time about 8:00 and were sitted for our dinner. And listened to the live Jazz. The next week we arrived earlier and was told that we could not sit in the room with the stage. Because paying customers would be sitting in there. So we had to sit in the bar area even though we spent over 80 dollars that night. The next week we came a little later and was told by a very rude hostess that we needed to pay 10 dollar cover charge and that the stage room already was full of paying customers so we would have to sit in the bar area. I've have personally never had to pay to sit at a bar. Well needless to say my husband and I left. It seems like everytime we come there is a different rule. Wouldn't it make more sense to just have like a two drink minium for people not having dinner and for people that are having dinner they shouldn't be expected to pay cover charge. The 20 dollars cover charge that we refused to pay wouldn't have been a lose compared to the 80 to 100 dollars that we usually spend. We really enjoy the atmosphere of the restuarant but it would be really nice if they got their rules together. We understand that your trying to keep out the busters but you do have alot of people that are willing to pay for great service. more

Could have been nice... 2/21/2008

I had so many high expectations for the House of Jazz, sadly the experience I had there fell way, way short. First, the greeter was less than friendly. She seemed upset that my party and I had arrived and interrrupted the conversation she was having with one of the waiters. Second, she seemed annoyed that we requested to be seated in the overflow area, where all of us could sit together as opposed to two separate tables as she had suggested (there were 5 of us). Next, our waitress, who looked barely old enough to serve drinks, was completely oblivious to the items of their overpriced menu. The food was good, however, three small crab cakes, 2 bell pepper slivers, and a drizzle of sauce was not exactly what I expected for 23.95. The band, let's just say I'm happy we got there before they started requiring a covercharge. Otherwise, there would have been heck to pay. Overall, the House of Jazz is little style and no substance. Save money, buy a CD and get some nice take out. Cons: Rude Unorganized Complacent Waitstaff more

Cheap experience in expensive setting 1/30/2008

Went Friday, Jan 25th for drinks & light meal. I ordered a vodka martini (which cost $9.00) and was served this in a small martini glass (compared to other places) which was only half full after I took the olives out. I mentioned this to the server who indicated he would have to make the drink weaker to give me more. I then ordered the buffalo wings (16 pieces). This was decent, however the blue cheese dressing came in a container the size you put ketchup in - in a fast food restaurant. And, that was only half full. My companion got 1 the same size and 1 larger one (different types). When I asked for more I was told it would cost 50 cents - for another tablespoon of dressing! BTW - the napkins were cloth, the serving plate was a plate - but yet they are going to be chintzy about some salad dressing! Lastly I ordered some iced tea and was told they only had sweet tea - which I don't drink - ever. I said what if I was diabetic??? The waitress kind of just looked at me... All this for $32 including tip...never again. more
