Highly recommended! 4/20/2012

LOVE LOVE LOVE him! GREAT personality! Spent plenty of time with me to discuss my injury, explain surgery and even provided a video on what would occur. Super friendly and Super comforting that I was not left worrying about surgery at all! He was also well recommended to me by a medical office supervisor that I respect very much. Dr. Horan knows what he is doing and I could not be happier. It's going on 2 weeks since my surgery and I am looking forward to a full recovery soon as well as a nice jog again! more

Great Doctor and approach to Medicine 11/28/2011

First of, I'm stunned at the reviews I have read here. I recommend Dr. Horan to everyone I can. He is a cutter that tries NOT to cut. To often, Ortho's simply want to cut first and ask questions later. Dr. Horan is not that type of doctor. I have knee and shoulder issues. He is through, spends time with me when he needs to and has his PA or NPN handle other cases. His office staff has always been friendly and competent. I agree it takes time to get an appointment, but if you want to go to a doctor that can fit you in tomorrow, they are either not very good or will spend 1 minute ignoring you anyway. Back doctors are different than general orthos so the reviews that question the specialist are off the mark. I drive 20 miles after I moved to Pinellas to their Westchase office as they are the best Ortho I have ever found. Good luck in your search and with your issues. more

Excellent Dr 6/15/2011

I saw Dr. Horan for a dislocated shoulder and recently a broken leg. I received excellent service and Dr. Horan was great to talk with and I felt like he took the time to understand my problem, explain it to me, and provide me with the best possible result. For my shoulder I saw two other doctors before Dr. Horan. The first felt I needed surgery with little questions asked, I felt I was viewed as more of a walking $ than a patient, the second said I didn't need surgery and to simply ""let it heal on its own"" then if it dislocates again to have surgery, I almost laughed in the doctors face at the notion of going through rehab twice and losing the use of my shoulder for such a long time, not to mention never felling confident it fully healed. In sports confidence is a huge factor. As you can imaging I was confused after those two drastically different diagnoses so I saw Dr. Horan as he was recommended by a colleague. He took more time than the first two doctors combined to explain my options, treatments, and fully answered all of my questions. If your doctor doesn't do this then walk away, its the least they can do for a life changing surgery that costs thousands. I had the surgery and went through rehab and my shoulder is rock solid, I lost a tiny bit of mobility but only in extreme positions I only reach when stretching. I am very happy with the result. About the only negative is wait times are sometimes long for office visits, and getting an appointment can be weeks out as other reviews have mentioned. HELLO PEOPLE, this should be a #1 indicator that this is an awesome in demand doctor, if he were bad you would not have to wait 2-4 weeks for an appointment! So even though it sucks to wait, wouldn't you rather wait and have the best doctor around than to see someone who is desperate for patients? I know I would. more

Costly experience on all levels 6/4/2011

My elderly mother was scheduled for a hip replacement surgery. My family jumped through hoops to meet all medical requirements to get the surgery completed ASAP. My mother is in extreme pain from RA. Five minutes before the procedure, he has a brief conversation with my mother and abruptly claims she is not ready. He cancels the surgery with no valid reason. Our family was stunned. The emotional, physical, and financial toll this has taken on my mother can not be described. If I could rate him ""no stars"", I would. I pray that no one else has this deplorable experience. more

A Differing Point Of View 12/2/2010

I had an appointment with Dr. Horan today and my experience was vastly different than the other reviews I see here. The office staff was friendly, his nurse was really nice and Dr. Horan took the time to listen to my issue, asked questions, and in my opinion was very professional and knowledgeable. I was seen fairly close to my appointment time and in general had a good experience. I didn't give a 5-star rating because it was my first visit. I have a follo-up appointment so I'll post an update after that. more

Another Imaging option advice 11/29/2010

If Dr. Horan sends you for an MRI, I suggest doing it at an imaging center and bringing the scans to his office. The reason is that he is a single practice doctor and the time between the actual MRI and him reading the results is on average 1 month (my expeirience and several friends that see him on a regular basis). At least then you will have the radiologist report in your hand in 48 hours and can figure out if there's a problem or not that needs to be addressed immediately or activity that needs to be limited and not wait weeks. I think the most frustrating thing about his practice - though I know he's smart and talented - is that the wait time for an appt or a follow-up is ridiculous. I wish he'd refer out when his schedule is packed or take on a partner that he trusts. more

Frustrating 10/5/2009

This is the first time I've taken the time to provide feedback anywhere on a medical provider, but my experience was sufficiently abysmal that I think it warrants taking the time to share. First, I couldn't get an appt., when I did I waited in lobby forever, finally got in for my ""first appointment"" to see the doctor and he didn't even bother coming to see me. I have a chronic back condition and I got a 3 minute visit from a physical therapist who told me I had a herniated disk - which any idiot can see in the MRI - that I already had done on my own. He suggested I ""see a specialist"" (I thought that was what I was doing). Then he said, ""Just a minute"" - he stepped out, and literally never came back. I eventually found my way back to the receptionist to try to figure it out and she told me that ""he was done"". Unbelievable. An enormous waste of money and time. Seriously, don't waste yours. more

Worst Place to deal with 8/3/2009

My wife was charged $1000.00 for an MRI. The amount was paid cashed. 3 months later, we received a bill for $125.00 from the office stating that the insurance refused to pay. When we called the insurance, they said the authorization for the visit was denied and they should have told us that up front. We could have paid, but the receptionist was so lazy, and did not mention that to us. After multiple calls between us, the insurance company, and the Westchase Billing Office, the told us they were going to reprocess the claim. Instead, they sent us to a collection agency.\r What a shame for a doctor office. They should hire people that can perform their job instead of some incompetent receptionists who only think a collection agency can do the job better than them. If this doctor wants to save his reputation, he should investigate to see how many people these receptionists have sent to collection agency. Because his office will be in jeopardy with such incompetents. Cons: Poor Customer Service more

Rude Receptionist, Can't get appointment, Told to go to another doctor 9/21/2008

My daughter was seen by Dr. Horan for 3 broken wrists. He was great. My son recently broke his arm and when I called for an appointment (he is 6 and the doctor who saw him stated the break would probably require a pin) I was told it would be a week. When I told the receptionist he was 6 and couldn't wait a week to have his arm looked at she stated he didn't see patients that young. My daughter was 4 the first time she broke her arm and he didn't have an issue taking our money then nor the other 2 times. The receptionist stated there are other doctors and to take him to one of them. It's nice to know he is investing in a hockey rink behind his office, maybe he should invest in some training for his office staff. I will never recommend him to anyone and I am making my husband, who is also a patient, cancel his appointments. more
