Editorial review from Citysearch 7/13/2013

hello I bought my dog ""ACE""\r (old english bull dog) from them in Jan of 08. he was born in nov of 07. he will be 6 yrs old this year. he is and always has been healthy. when we bought him he was clean and dewormed and healthy. Yes Ace's parents are from out of state and they provide you will all that information. there is some one there to watch and care for these dogs as well as clean. All you negative nancys out there don't have a clue. I personally look at the place the people and the dog who cares if its some where other then a persons back yard that breeds. your saving a dogs life and giving it a home. and in return having a loving companion. do your research first on the dog you want bc there are a lot of dogs that have tons of health issues that have nothing to do with the place you buy from.\r more

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/30/2013

I went to Home Raised Puppies and they were just fine. I think that in some cases, practicality and common sense have gone out the window regarding animals in general. The dogs were perfectly fine, well cared for, and clean. They work with a local vet, have all of the dogs vaccinated and de-wormed, and they are very patient with customers and new owners. You can call them with questions and they are always willing to be helpful. I have seen a true puppy mill and they are not it! I think they are sensible and reasonable and probably not appealing if you are snooty or looking for an AKC show dog. Otherwise, they are very good and respectable! more

Do your research, Please 3/20/2012

Just because this breeder is located in Connecticut, doesn't mean they are better than the puppy mills out west. Go onto the USDA website, search aphis, and look up the violations for this place. Do yourself and these dogs a favor- adopt one, don't hand money over to these people because they clearly don't give a hoot about these dogs. Also, one of the violations says they used unlicensed breeders to purchase their own dogs. BEWARE. more

Not fancy or frilly but cute and clean pups 6/12/2011

Not a fancy place but clean and good knowledge. Helpful infomation and good instructions, which guided me well through training. I purchased a little mix that is really a good dog! I would recommend this place. The prices were reasonable and the puppies looked well cared for. more

Where is the validity 6/5/2011

Hello and where is the validity to any of these reviews. But there are fools who actully believe anything they hear. Are these even real customers. Do you blame the owner for bringing out the pups one at a time? Just look at the wack jobs he is dealing with. The pups are fine it is the morans who buy them or the people who always have something to bitch about, you know the kind? I have a dog from them, believe it or not. If reading these reviews is the research you do then you live in virtually abusive computer world. more

I found nothing odd or filthy 1/27/2011

I went and bought a puppy at home raised puppies and the people we meet were very nice! My wife and I saw many different puppies, since we were not sure about which breed we wanted. Not one puppy was dirty they actually smelled of pine bedding. They were playing together having a blast! We ended up getting a toy size chihuahua. The puppy is the life of the party at our house and we have had a good experience. The people there supplied us with alot of information and advised us to call if we had any others. Would recommend. more

Odd? 1/14/2011

I found this place a little... odd? I had called them as well as another place. Both places had the breed. But because the prices at Home Raised Puppies were better I went out of my way to get one from them. So I get there and it's very ""homely."" The lady that showed me around was a little comfortable around me and my boyfriend as far as the way she acted. As if we were long time friends in her home, not too professional. We were not allowed to see where they kept the pups. They kind of just disappeared and came back with the dog we wanted to see. The dog was absolutely filthy. Fine, they go poop and they play in it. But we called ahead of time-you think they'd at least check and make sure it's in the best condition. Needless to say, since they were secretive and not too caring about the way they treated the puppy I drove all the way back to my area. After telling the 2nd pet shop about my experience they were nice enough to make a better deal. As much as I wanted to ""save"" that puppy, I did not want to support their ways. I hope that dog found a wonderful family and pray it didn't die from a sickly disease. more

I found my best friend at Home Raised Puppies 12/26/2010

As you can see from my profile picture, I have a beautiful male miniature poodle. He is now 9 months old, has been nothing but healthy, and has a wonderful disposition. He doesn't shed and doesn't make me sneeze the way many dog breeds and all cats do. He is my best friend and everyone who meets him thinks he is the most well-behaved, sweet, adorable thing the've ever seen. more

Greatest Dog Ever 12/23/2010

I purchased a beautiful Olde English Bulldogge from this buisness. It is the best dog a man can have. He is very healthy, smart, and he is diesel! I couldn't find a better dog in the entire world. I would recommend buying from Home Raised Puppies to everyone. Chris is a very nice man who sold me a dog at a great price. more

are you people for real 7/20/2010

I have read these reviews a few times now and i have a hard time beliving that some of u are for real. I have been around dogs all my life, my first job was at a kennal. I know about breeds and breeding .I knew when i was ready to buy my daughters dog that i wanted an olde english bulldogg . I found the folks at home raised to be very helpfull , they talked me out of a 1800 doller dog and sold me a 900 pet quailty dog she isnt as pretty as the others where but she is a better fit for are family , she doent have the really pushed in nose witch makes her more capable of keeping up with my little one. She is a lovely dog . So many of you say that the condishions where horrible but claim still bought puppys , We where there 3 times and the place was clean and well keept. as for them being in other rooms , if you went to a pet store you wouldnt climb in the tiny crate with them to veiw them, they would come out and be brought some where else to veiw them . As for the comment about them looking inbreed really how is it a dog looks inbreed , My dog ius papered and she has pedagree papers with her family tree , there is no sigh of inbreeding in her tree. Anyone who blams there dogs behavior on the breeder is an idoit , do you know about your dogs breed , things they are pron to do there learnig curve. you cant blaim them for your dogs nipping 5 years after you got the dog it is assanine. It is not uncommin nfor a mother dog to bite her pups when she is trying to wein them really learn alittle more about dog befor you make your self look stupid Pros: no pressure buying , able to answer Questions more

Stop Looking You've Found the Right Place 6/7/2010

So heres what happened to me. I went on Pet Finder excited to adopt. I found a small short haired terrier. I spoke to the foster mom who assured me pup was great and possibly not a terrier but small short hair and no concerns. The pup arrived myself and daughter go to pick up our new edition. To my surprise it was a long haired collie/lab. I have a condo and could not keep the pup we waited over a month for. We were devastated.. We then found Home Raised Puppies. We went in to find a clean store with knowledgable staff. I explained what happened. The owner spent much time with me going over different breeds and there behavior. He showed me all different breeds. I fell in love with a puggle there. Chris (the owner) was very honest and explained that this breed could be high energy. That was fine with me. We ended up leaving with a puggle named Lucic. He was very healthy, happy and fit right into my home. I called Chris (the owner) enough times with questions that I'm sure he knew my # by heart. Not once did he deny my call and cont. to give me assistance. A month later his wife called to make sure were doing good. She spent atleast a half hour listening to my puppy stories. A bad situation turned great due to Home Raised Puppies. Highly recommend.. Pros: Helpful, knowledgable, Friendly, Clean more

DISGUSTING INHUMANE PUPPY MILL 6/1/2010

I visited this puppy mill a few years back on the hottest day of the summer. I responded to a newspaper add and was told to meet the woman at this house to view the puppies. The woman showed up 20 minutes late and smoked a ciggarette the whole time including while holding the puppies. I was not allowed to see the parents and was shown about 30 chihuahuas who all seemed very skiddish and inbred. These poor puppies were left alone all day in the extreme summer heat, and costumers have no idea how the conditions really are. It shocks me that this place is still in buisness but i am sure that it will be closed down very soon. PLease do everything you can to stop This currupt buisness Pros: no pros maybe the dogs are cute but unhealthy Cons: puppymill, puppies are severley abused more

KIND EXPERIENCED ORGANIZATION 6/1/2010

I purchased a pug puppy prior to her becoming of age to go home. I picked her up a week ago, when I purchased her I was warned that she had a scratched cornea and that her eye may be less than perfect. I was offered a refund if I would like. I kept her and she is home. She is truly a delight in every sense of the word. I can you tell you I visited several times and was never denied seeing the puppies who are all playful and loveable. The business was always clean regardless of what time I went there. They do have older Boxers, which were coming in and out of the building at their own free will. They were friendly and in great health. I would not hesitate to purchase another dog there or recommend someone else to go there. Pros: Truthful and Experienced more

Don't go here! 4/21/2010

We purchased a boston terrier from home raised puppies 5 years ago. She had a scratch on her head, which the owners told us was from her playing with her litter mates. They assured us it would go away unattended and not leave a mark. WRONG! It ended up being about 3 inches by 2 inches, looked like brain protruding from her head. She ended up being a very sweet dog for the family, but not to strangers or other dogs, particularly females. We had to keep her away from other dogs and she nipped at several people. So we were continually vigilant to make sure people and animals were safe near her. We spent a fortune trying to ""fix"" the problem. We brought her to many obedience classes, fly ball classes, agility classes, we had aggression specialists come to our house and we brought her to them. We were told by several specialists that the mark on her head was not made ""playing"" and that she had probably been attacked, possibly by her own mother! We were also told by the specialist that she had not been properly socialized at the critical ages for proper socialization. When you look at other dog sites you will immediately see the difference. We will not make the mistake again. We will go to a reputable breeder where the parents are on site. Good breeders will want to ask a lot of questions of the potential buyer because they care about the puppies and want them raised in good homes. Home Raised doesn't care, they just sell. I believe that the ""friends of Chris"" are puppy mills. If they were real ""friends"" they would at least have pictures of the parents, pictures of the breeders kennels. Everything is vague which I believe covers up the conditions and carelessness of these people. I am hopeful that the State of Connecticut will shut down this place, that they will see it as it really is, a broker for puppy mills. Stay away! Pay more and get a puppy that has been brought into this world by caring individuals. Cons: puppy mill broker more

The truth... 1/5/2010

The truth is... There should be a zero-star rating. I do not know where they get their puppies, but breeders who care about their dogs would not allow their puppies to be sold at a pet store. The dogs are consistently sick (worms, kennel cough, pneumonia, etc.). They have ""upgraded"" to kennels in one room... The kennels are approx. 4x4 and had 15 puppies over 25 pounds in it. According to the Department of Agriculture, a dog measuring 14 inches from nose to tail must have at least 2.8 sq. feet... These dogs clearly did not. All of them were piled on top of each other, getting agitated, attacking each other because THEY COULD NOT MOVE!!! They all had severe kennel cough, one could have even been so bad as to say it probably has pneumonia or will soon. Green mucous pouring out of their noses. This place disgusts me and they are not thinking about the welfare of the animals. There have been several Olde English Bulldogs at local pounds that have clearly been purchased there. Wow, they choose great homes! And as far as the White English Bulldog named Grumpy, I have seen his dogster page and after she returned him to HRP, the people he got sold to after that took horendous care of him and he DID IN FACT end up at a local dog pound in deplorable condition and was taken in by a local rescue and was given proper vet care, food and was found a fantastic home. PLEASE GO TO A RESCUE OR LOCAL DOG POUND. There are many purebred rescues out there if that is what you are looking for. For those of you that will get denied from a rescue, I'm sure you're the reason that this place is still in business and you are the ones defending them as you do not care at all about the 4-6 million dogs that get euthanized every year due to overbreeding. Cons: Everything more

BEWARE!!!! 12/7/2009

This place is an obvious puppy mill. We stopped in recently and would NEVER consider supporting this disgrace to animals. Chris was hiding something in the back room as he went to get a puppy, slammed the door behind him and came out with one at a time. The place had a very strong odor and the puppies were dirty. Cons: DIRTY, PUPPY MILL more

People who over-breed their dogs!! 5/31/2009

I bought i 3 year old female boxer from this place wanting a companion for my boxer and when i went to get her she looked fine and healthy, and had all her shots. . . although something told me that this place was amiss when i saw how many of the same breed of puppy they had (about 30 ++ chihuahua puppies all together) So i bought her and took her home and have had problems ever since. She had worms first, and gave them to my other dog . . . she is scared of everything in a normal house which clues me into the fact that the dogs they breed never get let out into the real world (she would freaked out any time any noise was made) She has NO energy and as everyone knows boxers have LOTS of energy. She REFUSES to eat unless i coax her with ground beef or gravy . . . she was NOT housebroken AT ALL. When me and my husband had called we were told she was housebroken and playful and went to their house with them all the time and spent time with their family and such. Now i KNOW that was not the case because anything in a normal home freaked her out for the LONGEST time. She, as far as i can tell, and from what my vet said, was kept in a room and bread as often as they could breed her. That is not at ALL healthy for a dog! My family breeds boxers and you just don't do that!! Her stomach felt like jelly when i first got her . . . She has now come along way and is getting used to normal life and being socialized. It was hard taking her for walks and such for a while because she was afraid of EVERYTHING that she encountered. I WOULD NOT buy a puppy or an adult dog from them EVER AGAIN! They don't even fix their dogs that they give away when they are done breeding them. They just sell them!!! If they were responsible breeders first, they would not just keep a dog for 3 years and breed as much as you can and then get rid of her, and second they would get any dog that they had for breeding purposes fixed when they did not want to breed them anymore. All they are trying to do is use these dogs to make $$ so they don't have to get a real job!! I know raising a litter of puppies is hard and it is work but doing what they do is wrong!! What if someone put you in a room and bred you and sold your babies constantly and never let u out into the world how would u like it??? Responsible breeders do not sell 50 million diff kinds of puppies they specialize in a few and know everything about them and know what they are doing!! She is a beautiful dog and now she has a great life doing normal things like taking car rides and digging holes OUTSIDE and running around with my other boxer instead of being bred in a room over and over again. Dogs are not machines and should not EVER be used as a sole purpose of the $$ they make you. You should always love and care for your dog!! They need family's and love!! Be a RESPONSIBLE BREEDER!! more

there are suckers everywhere 5/30/2009

Hi Chris and Melissa!! Nice lengthy review you posted below. Do whatever it is you need to do to make yourselves feel better about what you do to make a living. I think its funny that you need to post and have your friends post to try and cover up the truthful bad reviews. You can try to fool people and yourselves...but you cant fool GOD. Say no more. Pros: They will drive there to sell you their sick dogs Cons: They are con artists, once you own the dog-your problem more
