BRILLIANT BULLDOGS COMPASSIONATE BREEDER! 5/14/2009

A year or so after the death of our beloved Akita my partner and I decided it was time for a new puppy and so the search began. Our choice had been narrowed down to an English Bulldog we had always loved them but yet knew little about the breed. Pros: Traditional Breed Standard, Well socialized, happy pups! Cons: Absolutley None more

Healthy,happy puppies 5/4/2009

Our son wanted a puppy for a long time. My husband and I both had pets growing up and know about the time, expense & TLC a pet requires. We visited Home Raised Puppies on numerous occasions to ""just look"" and were always treated with patience and respect. Never did we see any sick or dirty dogs. The shop was always as clean as any pet shop could be. Frankly, considering the number of puppies- it was obvious to us that they spent a great deal of time caring for them and cleaning. When we felt our son was old enough and able to handle the responsibilities of caring for a pet we felt most comfortable getting our dog from Home Raised Puppies. They were very knowledgeable, nice and fair with pricing and policies. It's a great place to go and we've had no problems with our dog whatsoever. Pros: Very accommodating more

Love Them!! 4/22/2009

I love Home Raised Puppies..... I have purchased a chihuahua from them and have had no problems, the owners were nothing sort of great. They are very in-tune with their profession, they take pride in their work and the puppies are very well cared for. They were available just about 24/7 with any concerns we had regarding our new dog. Thank-You Home Raised Puppies Pros: excellent care, very professional more

Completely Satisfied 4/21/2009

I bought my dog here 5 years ago. He's a purebread English Bulldog. I remember Chris being very accommodating. Met at the store, went to house, back to the store, couldn't decide, came back later, repeated steps above. I saw a lot of dogs at the store. Yes, they were standing in pee&poop, but gawd, there were 15 puppies in the pen, what do you expect? They clean regularly, but it's impossible to keep clean every second of the day. My puppy was generally healthy. He did have mange, which my vet said is present in 20% of all puppies. They get it from the mother. He's had a fair run of minor health issues throughout his life, which is specific to the breed. All Bulldogs have issues with breathing, skin, etc. - you can't blame the breeder or the dealer. PLEASE - Do not get a Bulldog unless you fully understand what you are getting into. The breed requires a lot of attention and specialized care. If you cannot spend at least 20 min a day cleaning folds, feet, eyes, and ears, get a different kind of dog! Home Raised Puppies has good dogs. They make great companions and are generally healthy. If you want an AKC Champion-caliber show dog, you might want to check out a more specialized breeder with those type of bloodlines. But for a family pet, you can't go wrong with HRP. more

Great Place 4/20/2009

I have purchased 2 beautiful old english bulldogs from Home Raised Puppies and have had nothing but great experiences with the owners and my dogs are doing great. The owners are very knowledgeable about what they do - they were extremely helpful in helping pick out the ""right"" dog for our families lifestyle as well as providing great tips on training and raising our pups. I have read these awful reviews and find it absolutely disgusting that people can just post lies, I have been to Home Raised Puppies numerous time and have referred many friends and family who have since purchased pups and none of which have had problems - the dogs all seem well cared for, happy and clean. more

Great Puppies 4/19/2009

1) To many Whining idiots have already posted about not being able to see the puppies parents, well you can, If you want to drive 12 hours south. The Puppies are breed in S.C. by friends of the owner. There are No Puppy Mills used, as snow2bal states ""he knows for a fact they are"". WOW thats funny, because unless you go with Chris Peck to pick them up, you admit to being a LIAR and everything else you've said can be dismissed as BS slander. Pros: cute healthy puppies Cons: whiney, ignorant customers more

Stay away 4/4/2009

If I could give no stars I would. Having bought 2 English Bulldogs from these people I tell everyone to stay away. Both had severe respiratory infections when we brought them home. Both had to have surgery on their eyes (both eyes for both dogs) after being told one had had the surgery. One was diagnosed with a ""luxating Patela"" which cost almost $2000 to repair. What are you supposed to do when you are attached, trade the dog in?? The other can't even scratch her head because her hips are so screwed up. Knowing someone else who also had problems with the hips of the bulldog they bought from here, I say, buyer beware, ask a vet in the area about the puppies that come from here. Quite a few know about this place. Guess that's why they recommend ""their"" vet. Be careful, be vigilent, have the puppy vet checked by your vet before finalizing any purchase. Cons: sick pups and spending lots of money more

bad, bad, bad 3/24/2009

I bought a chihuahua from this place about three years ago and he ended up with a bad heart murmur. The people here said he would be okay, but three years later he ended up collapsing. He got to the vet and died there. I loved my chihuahua to death and I'm never going to get over the fact that he died so young. I wish I never happened upon this place. Pros: cute puppies Cons: bad endings more

Reality Check 3/23/2009

I could not believe what I read when I saw thew bad reviews. These are obviosly written by people who have no real information and have never bread a dog. This is very difficult having done it once I don't have the energy to do it again. I could not show the parents of our puppies either because I only owned the mother. I have gotten 2 dogs from the Pecks and one was a rescued dog that they were caring for untill the could place him. The comments about the puppy mills must be from someone that has no information because I travelled to S.C. with Mr. Peck and was in the houses of the people who bread the puppies he brought back and even though Berlin will not allow the puppies to be sold from a home they were raised in one. It would be impossible to run a puppy shop on puppies that are bread by one breeder without having a puppy mill. That is why Mr. Peck has a large number of honest good people that breed the dogs that he sells. I was also there when the inspector from the state told him it was better for the puppies if people did not have access to where they were kept. I have spent a lot of time at this shop with my wife and kids playing with the puppies and they are well cared for. I have recomended them to my familly and they also got dogs from the pecks. Pros: Care of puppies more

A great Experience 3/16/2009

I didn't do any research before going in, and I have to be honest .. I had a really good experience contrary to all the bad reviews that are out there. Chris and his wife were very pleasant, they did bring quite a few puppies, they all looked healthy and very playful. The place did not smell, it was clean and the pups looked clean. We did purchase a beautiful pup, just brought her to our vet and got a clean bill of health. We did want to rescue a pup at a shelter, but the shelters were not very helpful or accomodating, plus they could not tell what type of breeds they had. Reviews are great, but go off your OWN experience. I would recommend Home Raised Puppies. Pros: clean, friendly, great to work with Cons: can't think of one more

This is NOT a good place!!! 3/10/2009

I went there to buy a dog for my kids at Christmas time!! Well I looked in the paper and we wanted a bulldog so we decided to go and get it there! We walked in and the place smelled very badly of bleach..my eyes were burning thats how bad it was!! Melissa asked us what our price range was and we told her, and she was very rude! We asked her why we couldn't see the other pups and she said cause we can't aford them so why is she going to show us them.. So she said she will bring us the puppies for that price! Well she brought us 3...first one very dirty..second one couldn't breath and the 3 one I loved but he wouldn't walk because he was scared! But he was cute and I fell in love! So we got him! I think they abused him because he was very, very scared and kept his head down! She said the whole litter was like that! She was very pressuring telling us someone is going to put a deposit down and we have to get him soon. When we picked him up the owner wasn't there some random girl was! So she gave up the papers and we left. Then he was throwing up everywhere and his face was all red an his eyes were very red! We called her and him and they said to take him to the vet..an we did...well come to find out he wasn't as old as they said he was...he was older! They gave us vet papers for 2 different dogs...one male and one female (an the vet didn't have anything good to say...he just shook his head is shame) so he said he has adult teeth and he couldn't be 3 months..more like 5! When we called them on it..she was like sorry..and I talked to Chris and told him I want the papers for my dog!! Well guess what he had to say about the papers...""Your dog isn't good enough to breed, he is a cheep dog an not worth anything!"" That was so rude! So I would NEVER EVER send anyone to them! My dog is still scared when you yell, but I love him and I dislike them very much for the way they take care of there puppies...they should be shut down and ashamed!!!!!! more

Buyer Beware 1/17/2009

Chris Peck continues to haul litters and litters of puppies up from S.C. He should be made aware if he's not already, that the new puppy law signed by Governor Rell on 7/1/09 makes it illegal to import puppies from NON-USDA LICENSED breeders. This is the LAW. Every puppy brought to CT from an unlicensed breeder is considered a separate violation which can be fined. And as he is brokering these pups, he should also have a USDA brokers license. more

Definitely NOT a good place 1/15/2009

I decided to write this review now because my sister-in-law is currently in the market for a puppy and mention going to ""Home Raised Puppies"". I got on the site to show her all of the horrible reviews and decided to finally speak up. I was particularly interested to see the comment about the Better Business Burea and the ""CT Judicial Branch"" case search. Wish I saw these when I was looking for a puppy! I went to Home Raised Puppies about a year ago looking for a pup to add to our family. I was warned about this place by a couple of friends. They said a respectable breeder usually only breeds 1-2 different kinds of dogs and this place usually has 5 -8 different breeds advertised on his sign outside. I decided to check it out anyway, my 6 year old was so excited to get a puppy. I made an appointment, got there and no one was there. I waited a good 15 minutes until the owner finally arrived. My friend had given me a few tips and questions to ask and to my surprise, he failed all of them. The first question I asked was to see the parents of the pups. He was ""unable"" to show them to me for whatever reason. The second question was the warranty. There is no refund if the pup gets sick, it's basically your problem now along with a couple other things on the sheet of paper that shocked me. A good breeder will make sure that there is a timeline that is covered to ensure their pups are well taken care of. The third thing that rose a few questions for me was the fact that he brought the pups to us. He started off bringing out 2 and they seemed very calm, a little too calm. We asked him if there were anymore in the litter that we could go see also maybe another breed (we were still up in the air at that point). My six year old began to follow him and Chris told him to ""wait here with your mom, I will bring them to you"". I thought to myself, what was he hiding? When he brought the other pups out, I was a little concerned. (Continue story on next review) Cons: Everything! more

I'd recommend staying away for the following reasons... 1/13/2009

I visited Home Raised Puppies and found Chris to be friendly, but did not purchase a dog after a few red flags appeared. After this, I found these other reviews and am glad that I steered away. more

All of the negative reviews are true! 12/11/2008

All of the negative reviews are true! We purchased a puppy and spent a ton of money on medical bills with in 6 months of bringing her home. Once she pulled through pneumonia, round worm, hives and full body mange she had multiple seizures which left her paralyzed and blind. We had to put her down at only 9 months. My daughter was devestated. The breeder did refund the purchase price of the dog, but that did not cure the dog nor my daughters broken heart. more

Cant dispute FACTS 11/29/2008

I would NEVER shop here after the article I read in the paper about this place. Also, not long before that, there was another article about puppies that were alive being dumped in a dumpster next to that business. I did my research and this place isnt so great. Apparently these owners were also in trouble with the Town for illegally importing puppies to their home address and they even sold sick puppies with mange out of their home for discounted prices. Look up public information on it at CT Judicial Branch and case look up under Christopher Peck...and there it is. B B B also has a negative rating. more
