Expensive Haute Cuisine 3/7/2007

If you're up for spending over $100 on dinner, come here. The ingredients used in the food are impeccable. My favorite was the Yellowtail Cold Taster Special and the buttery crisp Filet Mignon in the green peppercorn sauce. You will however, not be full after these wee portions. Sure, they're sold by the waiter as bigger than appetizers and tapas, but truly they aren't quite as promised. Most of the menu is focused on Japanese food, with three or four Western Fusion favorties as well. The service is friendly, the taste of the food is incredible, the sake is amazing and served in in bamboo shoots, however, be prepared for a big fat bill and sitting in a darkly lit room. Oh and while you're here, dont forget to try the amazing out of this world GreenTea/RedBean Cheese Cake ($8) - i almost fell off my chair. Pros: Yellowtail, Sake, Filet, Sushi Cons: High Price, Dark Lighting, Small Portions more

Fantastic variety and food 3/5/2007

When I go to Japanese/Sushi restaurants for the first time, I typically belly up at the sushi bar and order omakase. The tasting that I had at Hokusai was amazing. I loved all of the sushi dishes as well as the food that was brought out from the kitchen. All in all I'd say I had 6 or 7 small dishes and none of them disappointed. The server and the manager made fabulous recommendations and I could not have been happier or more stuffed. I am definitely going back. If anyone does try the omakase just mention any dislikes or allergies and the chefs can work around them. In fact you can also let them know if there's anything you want in particular. Pros: omakase, service more

Awesome! Let tiger do all the work 2/26/2007

Last week my manager and I had one of the best lunch's Los Angeles has to offer. We were open to try anything and everything, so we let tiger do all the work. Tiger asked a few questions on what we did not like and from there he took over bringing us everything from beef wrapped asparagus to yellow tail. The service was impeccable and the scene was very classy and hip. The perfect place for a business lunch and I bet there after work scene is incredible!! Pros: Great Ambience, very fresh foods, serivce was the best I have seen. more

Amazing one-of-a kind Japanese dishes!! 2/19/2007

One of the best meals I've had...a great cozy and place to chill with friends or family to impress. Impeccable service and creative flair to all the dishes with beautiful presentations. Every dish is tantalizing, having you trying to figure out what's in the sauces (mango purees, olive oil and parsley conconction, dozen different kinds of vinegars to name a few..) When possible, order ""omokase"" and leave it up to the chefs to surprise you and present it to you as you were a judge on Iron Chef. Desserts to-die-for (strawberries served with mango puree and champagne), great sake selection, and beautiful plum wine cocktails spiked with pomegranate juice. Be aware of the echos in the special columned room...the other tables are much easier to carry on conversations.. more

Great sushi and service in Beverly Hills 2/19/2007

Incredible sushi and awesome service in a hip atmosphere on the outskirts of Beverly Hills. I would definitely recommend the special sashimi dishes, especially the usuzukuri for its great citrus flavor. Soft shell crab and rock shrimp eggrolls were like nothing I've ever tasted before! And as others have said...the desserts are awesome - we had a mind-blowing strawberry Fedex'd in from Japan and a tiramisu that was perfectly done! Pros: Sashimi and dessert and service Cons: Lighting more

Service standards are top notch with very professional staff constantly checking in on us to see how we were doing. Ambiance is clean & modern with a dramatic center booth encased in a reflective column. They could probably dim the lights a bit and use more candles to warm up the place. Bathrooms were really way too bright. Noise level is not bad for easy conversation. Pros: Sashimi and dessert and service Cons: Lighting more

Best sushi in LA, great ambiance. great cocktails, a great night out. 2/9/2007

What a surprise. Located in the old Continental space. What a makeover! Great servers. Amazing sushi and cooked menu. Perfect place for an after work drink with Happy Hour menu, work dinner, groups or dates. I highly recommend this place, especially the desserts. The apple wontons are to die for. Pros: Ambiance, food, service Cons: Valet gets full when neighbor (whilshire Theater) is running a show. more

Surprise find for sushi and kitchen food. 2/7/2007

Went to what I thought was the old Continental Restaurant and was surprised to find that it had changed ownership and was now a swank new Japanese restuarant. I decided to give it a try and I am sure glad that we did! The service was great. Very knowledgeable staff that walked us through a superb sushi and cooked food menu. Of note: wagyu nigiri (kobe beef seared with a kitchen torch and served on japanese rice ""sushi style""), lobster tar tar (incredible), and the sashimi platter. Last but not least, do NOT leave without having dessert. Amazing. Rarely have I had such great desserts let alone at a Japanese restaurant! I highly recommend this place. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more
