Absolutely the best. I love steak (very un-p.c., I know). I make it a point to try other steak houses from time to time, but Hereford House beats them all every time. more

Have eaten steak in seven of the ten restaurants you listed. All good but for the best steak in the KC area, go to Mama Mia's on 20th Street in Leavenworth. Both the KC Strip and the Filet are the best in the area more

In the past, Herford House has always been one of the best Steakhouses, but don't let their past reputation ""Steer"" you to quickly into their parking lot, which lacks decent parking. The prices are good, but their steaks may be a little too over-rated Pros: Atmosphere, Selection, Prices Cons: Parking, Crowded, Timeliness more

Everytime I eat at the Hereford House it is a wonderful experience! The food and service are delightful. However, if you want a great experience free of hassle you must make reservation. If you follow this rule every meal you eat at the Hereford House should be an absolute delight. more

Absolute Best Steakhouse! 12/4/2002

Hereford House is an excellent restaurant and serves the best steak I've ever had. I grew up with Omaha's renowned steaks and have eaten at some of the finest restaurants in dozens of major cities across the country. When friends head to KC, I always recommend they make a stop at the best steakhouse I've found - Hereford House. more

disappointing 11/20/2002

when I went; the service was very slow; food wasn't very warm; table was tiny and all food was brought out at the same time. it took 1.5 hours from the time the waiter took our order to the time it was served. he did not even keep our drinks filled or came back to check on us after the food was delivered. the food was as blann as our bill was high. Pros: ambience, selection on menu, reasonable parking Cons: poor waiter, blann food, a liitle expensive more

One of the Best 11/1/2002

The New Hereford House is nothing like the old version of 20 years ago when it was owned by folks who had their own cattle ranch. Current owner is a good restauranteur though. However I never had a bad steak under the old owners. A group of us did have bad steaks one night and not one in the bunch had a decent steak. So it is possible to have a bad experience here. Overall though the steaks are very good and flavorful in the KC tradition. Atmosphere & Service are very good too. Maybe a bit overpriced. Reservations are helpful if you eat at the Downtown location. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, overall good food Cons: a bit overpriced, can get a bad steak more

Downtown Tradition 10/24/2002

This is a great place to have lunch or dinner, especially in the bar area. The steaks are always perfect, if you arrive early you'll be pleasantly surprised with the Sunset Dinner Menu, a terrific value. There are always a great mix of local and out of town diners and friendly staff. We've always had a great time and great food. Each location has it's own personality but the same great steaks. Not In A Life Time 10/21/2002

Not only has this place over rated itself. The service forgot the 10 steps of customer service. I have spent many years in the food industry, and have never been as displeased with a place as I was with this one. The Hereford House was recommended to friends visiting from Canada while they were in the airport. Needless to say they will never recommend it to other people traveling. Indep. House was Perfect 10/19/2002

During the ice storm, my home was without power for 10 days. We braved the first 9, then insanity sunk in and we new we needed warmth, power and plump, juicy steaks to refuel. We filled up at the Hereford House in Independence during our stay at the new hotel there. It was exactly what we all needed and we'll always go back and won't ever forget how great the meals were when we needed them most. A+ Pros: Taste, Location, Friendly Service Cons: Parking, Crowded, $$$$$ more

Sum of the parts 10/7/2002

Most of the Hereford House components work and work very well: good ambience, good menu, good service, good wine selection. Only one problem: too often the steaks and other food selections are just pedestrian -- at best. Not the best in KC by far. more

Traditional Excellence 10/7/2002

First things first, the qualitity of the meat is second to none, then cook to your taste-their way. The staff treats you like royalty, if your dining to celebrate an important event, or just trying to impress your lady, you'll be made to feel as if there is no one more important there tonight than you and your date, guest, etc. more

Melts in your mouth 9/24/2002

The first week we were in town we chose to go to a ""great"" steak house because we heard KC was known for beef. I would recommend this restaraunt to any red meat eating being. I had the 10oz prime rib and it literally did not need to be chewed. I would venture to say it wasw the best steak I have ever eaten. However, be prepared to spend a little change. Pros: Steaks, Environment, Reservations Cons: Parking, Pricey more

The quality of the meat is not close to the best steak in town. Our last meal there was all wrong and the manager offered me a ten dollar gift certificate for next time. Thanks for nothing. more

steak house food- coffee shop atmosphere 8/26/2002

I have read what a great place the Hereford House is for a few years, on my first trip to KC, I decided I wanted a great steak and thought of hereford house..WHAT A MISTAKE. must be the most over rated steak house in the country. I walked in and thought I was in the local diner, bright lights and booths all lined up like a denny's. The steak was just average or maybe below avarage. the best things were the waitress was very friendly and the bar poured a good drink. I would avoid the hype on this place , there must be better steaks in a cow town like KC.. Pros: good service, varied menu Cons: average quality steak, ugly interior, bright lights more

Hereford House is here to stay! 8/22/2002

Our whole family loves The Hereford House. The house dressing is a blend of two kinds and is delicious. The steak is always wonderful and the desserts are very good. It's laid back (particularly the one downtown) and not in the least snobby. more
