overated and over crowded 3/14/2003

I've eaten at the Hereford House four times in the last 18 months. The meat was just OK and certainly not first rate. Once again on 3-13-03, we made the mistake of trying again. All 3 steaks in our group were charred (not seared) and the meat quality was very poor. The porterhouse was filled with gristle poorly marbeled and flavorless. Waitress couldn't remember to bring additional salad dressing. Pros: fair atmosphere, location (OP KS) Cons: terrible meat, overpriced, mediocre service more

The last two dinners my wife and I have had have been over-cooked, we had to wait way past our reservation, and our waitress disappeared. We will never go back. Cons: over-rated, slow service, inconsistent more

These folks know what they are doing. I always get a great feeling from the freindly staff and the food is consistantly great. I have had one bad steak there and I mentioned it to the manager and he got it fixed. He then proceeded to buy me dessert that was out of this world. Pros: great food, ambiance Cons: busy. more

What a place! Great Steaks with fantastic side items. We enjoyed our romantic dinner (our anniversary) and then came back the next week with our 3 boys! The childrens meals are fun for the kids as they get a ""real"" menu not a piece of paper from a xerox machine. A great restaurant for any occation! more

Outstanding Elegance 2/5/2003

My wife and I dine at the Lawrence location quite frequently and typically have filet. Recently, about a year ago, we had one of the nightly specials and were very impressed, and generally when we dine there now we go there just for the specials. Their chefs create something unique everyday and are quite talented. Simply the best steakhouse. Pros: Great Value, Beautiful Atmosphere, Romantic Cons: Busy Place more

Beware of Lawrence 2/4/2003

While the Hereford House is good, Jess & Jim's for an old fashioned steak house is better. However beware of the Hereford House in Lawrence. On a recent visit 4 of 6 steaks were over-cooked, one grossly done. The Bearnaise sauce was scummed over, it sat under the warmer so long. Lawrence is overpriced for what they deliver. My rating is for KC, not Lawrence wich would be a 2.5 overall. more

Mediocre at best. Very poor value for the dollar. I enjoy Outback Steakhouse more, and for a lot less. Pales in comparison to Ruth's Chris. I will never visit Hereford House again. more

3 strikes, you're out 2/4/2003

I have been to the Leawood location twice and the Independence location once. That was three times to many. I honestly have had a much better steak at Outback and paid a lot less. The last time we were there not only did we complain about the quality of the meat, but a table next to us also complained. I can buy a better quality steak at Hy-Vee. If you want a good steak, try Ruth's Chris or Plaza III. more

Overrall not a bad steakhouse. The cuts are fine and tender but I was not 'blown away' like I was at the Capital Grille. In my opinion the Capital Grille has the finest cut of the Delmonico Ribeye anywhere. more

No one has done it longer and maintained the quality of the steak. And it is all about steak. Going to the Hereford House and ordering chiken is like going to the rendevu in Memphis and ordering chicken. Clean efficient and professional. Consistent and great atmosphere. Pros: Quality of Food, Great Atmosphere, Great Service Cons: Reservations, Not walking distance more

The beef at Hereford house is good but the presentation leaves a lot to be desired. The plates it is served on resemble something I would get at a cheep place. Also the meat had no spices which was very disapointing even good meet could use a little kick. Pros: good salad, good mushrooms, nice help Cons: over priced, bad bread, poor presentation more

After several tries to find the magic here, I've given up and have settled for just a good steak. Nothing spectacular but you can do as well in a lot of other places, too. Service seems to be permanently slow. more

Hereford House is okay! It's not like WOW, great food. I suggest that if you want a good steak then go to Longhorn Steakhouse in Blue Springs/Independence. Pros: average steak, twiced baked patatos, it near my work Cons: expensive, not worth the money, a roomer restratant more
