As far as steakhouses go Hereford house would not be in my top ten. The steak for the price is nothing to write home about. Service is fair at best. more

Flavorless House 1/12/2003

I can cook a more tender and FLAVORFULL steak on my grill. I ordered a filet mignon and they were supposed to butterfly it and they didn't! So it took forever to cook! Very long wait for not that great of food. Had absolutely no flavor! For over a $100 tab I expected something more. Come to Sharon's House I'll cook it up just right! more

I have eaten at the HH downtown many times over the years. The place has REALLY gone downhill over the past 5 or so! Lousy service, can't get drinks refilled to save your life, the steaks are ALWAYS tough. Forget about trying to get it cooked to your satisfaction. Everything comes out at the same time. I can't get my husband or friends near the place anymore. Town Center is even worse, it that is at all possible. Check out Ruth's Chris for a decent steak in KC! Cons: overpriced, lousy steaks, mediocre service more

Fabulous Steak and Service!! 1/3/2003

On our visit we wanted to enjoy the best steak in the steak capital of the midwest. The Inn we were staying at recommended ""Hereford House"". So we called and asked the ""Hereford House"" if they had transportation from the Inn. Our request was met with an enthusiastic ""we will be there in 15 minutes"". The man who came to get us turned out to be their chef Dave. He met us and listened to our special dietary needs. He prepared a wonderful, mouthwatering epicurean delight for my husband and I. From the salads to the steaks, the savory flavors are fondly remembered. All of the staff were most congenial. To these two weary, hungry travelers it meant the world at that moment. Thank you Hereford House. You have made our trip to Kansas City worth it. Five Stars to you!! Hospitality is in action not just a word here! Pros: Hospitality, Savory, Excellent service Cons: none, none, none more

the filet of steakhouses 1/3/2003

I attended Hereford House with a large group of 21. Every steak was perfectly done, our service was exemplary, and even though it has been since 1998, it is still one of the best steak dinners I have had in my lifetime. I would recommend it to everyone, and don't worry about the price, you will get every bit of what you pay for. Pros: Cooked to perfection, Great sides/desserts, service above average more

I ordered a simple sirloin and had to send it back three times, because it was over done to the point of well-done and I had ordered it medium-rare, before I finally just ate it because I was so hungry. more

Melts on your fork, not by the knife! 1/3/2003

This has to be one of the best steakhouses (been there 4 times) in the country. Even the lunch proportions are quite generous. The atmoshere is wonderful as well as the service. I rarely give an excellent rating on any survey, but this place I'll make an exception for! Pros: Parking Across Street, Great Value Pricing, Wonderful Flavor Cons: I still thinking! more

I think the title of the rating says it all. I can't believe this has the highest rating for the city. For the same price I'd recommend Morton's of Chicago. Pros: Good parking, Easy to find Cons: unimpressive decor, ordinary waitstaff more

Steaks have dropped in quality and raised in price service is very slow. was a great restuarant now very mediocre. I am speaking of the Town Center store not the downtown store more

The service was very bad. Had reservations and still waited almost an hour to be seated. Waiter was poor service and food was luke warm. Not worth the price at all. Try Ruth's on the plaza or Colony much better. Pros: very poor service, food OK but not hot more

I'm sorry, I've lived in the Kansas City area for over 8 years now and Herford house doesn't even come close a really good steak house. I have to recommend Ruths Chris Steak House. I cant believe its not listed as #1, maybe people out here havent gone to eat there yet. I have to add, that I not only disagree with people about Herford House, I dont like either their steak or their chicken. Ive eaten there about 4 times and just dont like the food. more

Get ready for a mouth watering meal that sure to leave you feeling satisfied. The steaks are cooked to perfection, the sauteed mushrooms are out of this world and the service is spectacular. Do not pass up this place, it is well worth your time and very affordable. Go casual or dressy, it doesn't matter. Atmostphere galore! The service and food are exceptional! Try the carpaccio for an appetizer-this is a treat! Leave room for dessert too-but that will hard with the plentiful portions.
