I recently moved to Albuquerque and have been a hard time finding a salon I have tried a few of the ""Best of Albuquerque"" salons and they have come up short.\r I tried Heart and Soul After asking several people who had done their hair all of which said Heart and Soul and 3 different stylist so it seemed like a safe bet.\r I could not get in with the owner so I tried Kayla for a Blow-out to get a feel for the place, she did a great job. the staff was friendly everyone was dressed very stylish,a change for Albuquerque, they use the products that I love. great first experience.\r I went back and this time I tried Ian for my cut and highlights he was great!\r \r I would highly recommend this salon, finally my mind is at ease now to find a dry cleaner and Dentist more

I had previously been going to Jill for a couple of years and she has since left. You have to wonder why?!? Tried a new stylist, Tiffany, who cut my bangs way too short, the back of my hair does NOT match the front! Showed her a picture of a basic bob and she was not able to finish the job, had to point out parts that did not match and after getting SO frustrated because I knew she didn't know what she was doing, paid the way OVERPRICED cut and left in disgust. Tiffany was unfriendly and didn't say two words while cutting my hair. The owner of the salon never acknowledges any clients in the salon and talks badly to his staff. I don't think he is much better at hair since his wife's (who is the receptionist) hair always looks overprocessed and choppy! When Jill left, she took the best part of that salon with her....her ability to give a great cut and a postive friendly hardworking attitude! more

I live in Boise, ID now, but still make a point of timing my haircuts with my visits to ABQ so Josh or Tiffany can cut my hair. On the occaision I can't get one of them, I've never had a bad haircut from anyone at H&S. \r As a 40yo dude, with slightly thinning hair, but wanting to maintain a contemporary/hip-but-not-trendy hair style, these guys rock it everytime! I'm very critical of my haircuts and have seemingly difficult hair to cut, but will go weeks longer than I should between haircuts just to get in with these guys.\r Thanks Heart and Soul!\r Peace more

It's so hard to find a hairdresser who will work with you, is friendly and sweet, and gives a great haircut. I have been going to Josh at Heart and Soul for years, following him through other salons, and this is the best one yet. Josh listens to what I want and does a terrific job on both the cut and the color. I'm an ""old lady"", not a hip young thing, but his haircuts are stylish and require no work, air dry, and with a final squeeze with some product, I come out looking great. One of the best things about his haircuts is that I live in Santa Fe and have to go a long time between haircuts and the cuts always grow out great. His haircuts are a fraction of the price of what I would have to pay in Santa Fe! more

I called Heart and Soul desperate for a reshaping of my pixie cut, as I was unable to see my regular stylist and looking pretty shaggy. The friendly receptionist told me she could fit me in immediately with Tiffany. The space itself was very modern and clean and all the stylists and assistants were looking hip and sporting great hair, so I felt confident I'd come to the right place. Tiffany gave me a great scalp massage while she washed my hair, and listened closely to my description of the cut I wanted. She proceeded to give me a truly fabulous short cut, with lots of texture and edge. It was exactly what I wanted! I would recommend Heart and Soul, and Tiffany in particular, to anyone searching for a new salon and stylist. Pros: Great location; friendly, professional staff more

Gerhardt cut my hair today! I was refered to Heart and Soul while shopping at Sephora. I am an African-American client that was worried about how I was going to find someone to cut my hair. Jill makes it unique and special and is fun and innovative. I just sat next to a guy that sprayed the heck out of his clients hair and there was nothing to do but take this toxic spray into our lungs. In a cloud of spray, I said ""I'm just not going to take this stuff."" This is new mexico for heavens sake. Are there not enough pollutants in the air without a heavy dose of hair spray? This is a small place relatively speaking, and though I drive here from Lamy N.M. I just gotta find another place or ask Jill to meet me after hours. Pros: nice staff Cons: hair spray more

I went to another salon (please see my review under Inspire Salon) and came out with ruined hair. I decided to make an appointment with Jill based on previous reviews. She did a great job with my haircut and color. As you blonds know, it's a challenge finding a stylist who does light blond highlights that are even and not gold/brassy. Jill is very talented with this. She also gave me a great cut with a razor so you can't see the layers or lines. My hair looks modern and put together. Thanks! It is unfortunate that the woman above had a terrible experience with Atalie. My experience has been quite the opposite, and since I've become a regular customer of hers, I've never been happier with my hair. Atalie cuts my hair fabulously, and honestly, I feel like a model every time I leave the salon. She takes the time to listen to what I want, offering suggestions for what will fit my face, lifestyle, and hair texture. Not only is Atalie a fabulous stylist, but she may be one of the sweetest people in all of Albuquerque. I highly recommend her for her skill level and for the overall pleasant experience while visiting her at Heart and Soul. more

After reading reviews, I made an appointment with Jill. I live in rural Colorado and am afraid of the local hair sylists. I usually get my cuts in Santa Fe or Los Angeles when I'm in either place, which used to be pretty often, but lately I haven't traveled much. So while in town for the Balloon Fiesta, I made an appointment with Jill. I was immediately struck by Jill's full-focused attention (she really listened to me and made suggestions based on what I said) and she indulged my fears about going to someone new by being very reassuring. Jill has a very patient demeanor, she's highly skilled (and very realistic in her approach) and best of all Jill doesn't indulge in the insipid banter other hair stylists sometimes can get into. \r \r As I was leaving the salon the four staff members at the front counter were ingratiatingly perky (which, thankfully, Jill is not). The salon itself is smallish, techy (blowdryers hung from the ceiling) and modern which for me is neither here nor there. I just wanted a good haircut, which I definitely got. \r \r (FYI, I have straight-ish hair about 4 inches past my shoulders). The coolest thing about Jill's cut is that my hair looks good during the day AND the next morning after sleeping on it. I'll definitely get my haircut by Jill when I'm next in Abq. When my stylist moved out of town, I decided to try Heart & Soul based on reviews I'd seen online. I asked the receptionist for someone with good consultation skills and she suggested Atalie. The salon is very trendy and beautifully decorated and the front desk staff were great. My haircut, on the other hand, was a total disaster. I brought Atalie a picture of a style I wanted and described my criteria for a cut (edgy style, minimal styling time required, keep the length). She said she had a plan and got to work. The haircut I received didn't match any of my requests nor did it resemble the picture I brought in. She spent a half hour styling it (far longer than I have time to recreate myself) and when she was done, my hair resembled a soccer mom with a hair-spray helmet. When I told her the cut wasn't what I wanted, she suggested cutting it more, but I had already lost precious inches I had worked so hard to grow out. I said I would try to style it at home and see if I could make it look acceptable (it looked even worse at home - like Raggedy Andy's hair). She half-heartedly suggested I call her if I wanted to change the cut and she did not apologize. Despite my unhappiness with this cut, I will not return to Atalie to fix my hair - I just don't trust her judgment. Atalie was very nice and I hate to write such a strongly negative review; I just don't want someone to suffer the same fate. Life is too short to cry over a bad haircut. I enjoyed this place a great deal. I called for an appointment without requesting a specific stylist and ended up with Lisa. She did a FABULOUS job on my color and cut and we got to talking about how I wished my hair was longer and she told me she does extensions. So, the next week I had her put some extensions in my hair and I LOVE them! Hooray for Lisa!\r I was impressed with the rest of the staff just like everyone else. Very kind and sincerely so. I am not a review writer, but since this is where I learned of Heart & Soul, I decided I should return the favor. \r Picking a place to get my hair done is such a scary thing! I researched a lot of places and then decided on H&S because of all the great reviews I read. I went to Tiffany for a haircut and highlight and I absolutely loved her. The whole experience was great. The staff is extremely friendly and very helpful in finding an appointment to fit my very busy schedule. The salon is beautiful and very inviting and comfortable. Not snobby at all, like most places. Tiffany is very good and helped me figure out what would look best on me. I am now a loyal customer.\r Pros: upscale but still comfortable Cons: can't think of any more

Heart & Soul is a hidden treasure!! i didn't even know it was a spa!\r Jessi, their new massage therapist is awesome! she is very professional, friendly, attentive, and has amazing hands. with the cd of ocean waves and firm and gliding pressure it was so relaxing! she offers a essential oils to choose from for aromatherapy and the massage room is so quiet and has a table warmer which makes the experience extra cozy. Kelly, the esthetician is fabulous! She used Dermalogica products and gives a thoroughly relaxing and pampering experience. the facial steam, the warm towels on your feet, it's just heaven. i left looking radiant and glowing. \r don't let it fool you! it's not just a salon, they have a whole amazing spa in the back and the rates are really reasonable. I don't write reviews usually, but I feel that I have to say something for Jill. The place she works now is definitely way better than the previous one on CENTRAL, across CO-op organic food market in Nob Hill. If you are looking for her, definitely go to this place. I just had a haircut with her today and I never get tired of her creativity and delicacy. She is a communicative stylist. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and I felt so comfortable to stay in the salon. Overall, the service is great and I love my new hair style!!\r \r It is pity that they do not have a professional website, the only one I found is at myspace, but this one is old.
