I have several video clips of one of their drivers, Chris Payne, driving recklessly and speeding in a Heafner's company tow truck in a residential area. I also have video proof of their driver trying to run me and my children off our neighborhood road today. The police have been contacted, given the video evidence and they are suppose to call and speak with the owner. I hope that Heafner's Towing takes care of this matter immediately. more

Beware! My insurance agency had my vehicle towed by this towing business to a repair shop. The tow driver did not put the keys in the drop box of the repair shop and left my vehicle open overnight. When I called to ask where did the driver put the key, I was told he placed them under the mat inside the car. I informed the ""owner"" that this was not a good thing to do. He responded with an attitute that he was not there and that at least no one had damaged the car, so what else did I want? I told him just think for a moment if it had been his car, would he react the same way? I immediately called my insurance company to place a complaint. This is not the way to treat a customer. Negligent and unprofessional to say the least. more

heafners employee's work for free 8/9/2011

I find the comment that you do not work for free very entertaining because my husband worked for you about 4 years ago and when he quit due to being over worked and he had a very sick family member and you would not allow him 1 day off you refused to pay him what was rightfully his. He was worked approximately 60 hours a week and only received $350.00 a week for compensation, your employees are supposed to receive commision but you refused to pay him his commision and you said there was no record of it if he wanted to do anything about it. Therefore he only received about $5.83 an hour for working from 7-6 and after hours at anytime and i know that he worked alot after hours. I find it very disturbing that you being a business man with a large company that you would be so concerned with ripping off a middle class working man of about $600.00 at least. more

As the owner of Heafner's Towing, I refuse to allow to let this go. Normally, I would not lower myself to the standards of people like this, however she seemed to forget how all of this went down. First of all, in North Carolina you have to have insurance to drive a car. When you have an accident, they will pay your fees and protect others involved. You did not have that, so you had to pay the bill. The bill which included a one hour clean up and pulling out of the woods. You were told all of this on Saturday July 2. When you did come in the office, you proceeded to use severe profanity. Normally we remove customers from the property for this, however this time it was kind of amusing. All of this because you refused to pay for services renedered. Did you work for free today?? Well, we don't either. Being that you have a family member in the towing industry, why didn't you call them. It was your choice. Again, nothing is free in this world, sorry to burst your bubble on that one. By the way, have your family remove facebook postings. This is slander and will be formally handled by an attorney. more

Horrible!!!! 7/7/2011

They refused to allow me access into MY vehicle and gave me the run around for 6 damn days! I had my title and my license and still couldnt even touch my car. They wouldnt allow me to have my car towed elsewhere and shot my bill up from $285 to $425. This company will do nothing but jerk you around and sit on your car just to raise storage fees. AWFUL PEOPLE ESP KELLY. I had the misfortune of dealing with Kelly and she was down right RUDE!!! Beware!!! And the owner was NEVER available. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!!! more

What is Wrong with this world? 3/29/2011

Well I'm not sure where to begin. But Jose is EVERYTHING but, those things that reviewer said. I have had the unfortunite luck of dealing with this company and Jose on a few occasions. And he was nothing but polite and tried to be as helpful as possible. Even when my husband became angry and began to yell and scream, Jose remained calm and continued to explain what was needed and how to go about getting our son's car out, the LEGAL WAY. That's the problem with people today. EVERYONE wants things there way regardless of the laws and expects others to break the law just for them. I assume you were not setting a GOOD example for your children when you were demanding that the law be broken just for your bennefit. I'm sorry you had an accident, but you shouldn't expect people to cater to you or feel sorry for you because of it. People like you are what is wrong with this world. Grow up and get a life. Because you can't have much of one if your taking the time to write and complain about someone just doing their job. more

BEWARE JOSE 3/8/2011

First off, the reason why this place got even a single star is because the actual individuals who do the towing and work the trucks are quite friendly and helpful. JOSE, the main office person, is pretty much a deplorable human being. I was in a near fatal car wreck with my two very young children and every single, possible step of the way JOSE (the heavy set, bald office worker) has made all interaction with Hefner's towing a complete nightmare. From the time I walked in my greetings of ""Hello, I'm looking for my vehicle"" were responded with a raised hand to my face. I ignored this b/c I always assume office people are having a bad day. One of the towing guys at the office saw how rude JOSE was and offered me a seat while I waited for him to acknowledge I exist. 1) I had to travel a great distance to get to the towing company (which is understandable - the police just wanted my vehicle off the road and I assume they called the closest place, even though I asked them to send it elsewhere). When I finally arrived JOSE told me he could not let me enter my vehicle b/c I did not have the proper documents. However, I spoke with him before I set off on my journey and explained those documents WERE IN THE VEHICLE!!! Over the phone, he said he would get them out for me, but when I arrived behaved as if I made up the entire conversation in my head. He kept on stating over and over like a dumb parrot ""I have to follow the law"". That's all great, but you should have said that before I drove almost 100 miles to retrieve my property from my vehicle! After almost 30 minutes of yelling at me about following the law and doing his job, he finally agreed to have a staff member search for my documents. My vehicle registration is from another state and went unrecognized by the searcher. This sent JOSE into a ridiculous rampage. I tried to explain exactly where in the SUV the registration would be found and he refused to listen, repeating over and over ""I have to follow the law"". Thankfully, another staff member was listening to me and retrieved the documents from my vehicle. Jose never apologized for his behavior, despite being obviously wrong. But lets go on to the other issue... 2) JOSE explained the process of releasing my vehicle. That I could sign release papers on the spot. Or he could fax it to me once I return home and I return it with a copy of my license. He seriously suggested the latter. Despite the earlier happenings (I alwas assume office people are having a bad day) I thanked him and accepted his advice. Now it is 3 days later. I called JOSE back to have the release papers sent and he NOW informs me everything (each identifying document plus the release papers themselves) must be notarized! I asked him why didn't he mention they needed to be notarized while I was at the towing company. This again sent him into his loud chanting frenzy of ""I have to follow the law"". I tried to remain calm and pointed out following the law is fine, but that's not what he said before, similar to the prior incident. Disgusted with his behavior I asked if there was ANYONE else I could speak to, just to avoid hearing his voice. Lets just say things got much worse from there... If it were simply getting the documents notarized I would be upset b/c a) I wasn't told ahead of time and have to pay the fees to have this done, b) I have to shuffle two very small children around this small town to find someone to actually notarize the documents. However, I would understand b/c after all I wouldn't want anyone to not obey the law. I have never written a review for ANYTHING before in my life, however JOSE's horrible, unapologetic, irate behavior has motivated me to stop everything in my life to warn others. more

Not all tow companies are crooks. 2/16/2011

A lot of people talk about tow compies and how they are crooks and just tring to ripe people off. Well I'm here to say that is not true. My wife's car broke down the other night and she was stuck on the side of the road. A Gastonia PD stopped and offered to call a towing service. He called Heafner's and they were there in 10 mins. The driver was curtious & towed my wife & son back to our house. When he got there I came outside with the litte bite of grocery money we had left and waited for the worst. The chage was WAY LESS then what I expected and the driver even provided me change without pretending like he didn't have any so he could get a tip. ( and yes I have had that happen before) He was vey polite and it turned what could have been a bad situation into something not so painful. And my son left his stuffed bear in the truck and we didn't realize it. the following day the driver returned the bear, and we didn't even know it was missing. How great was that. They trully are one of the best compies out there and the others NEED to take lessons from them. Thank you Heafner's....... more

SHADEY!!! 2/18/2010

I had a fender-bender 4 blocks from my house. I was told I had a warrent for missed court date, and had to be takin to jail. The police officer took my purse, and cell phone from me and said he was putting it in my car to be towed away. I pledded with him, my husband was only 4 blocks away, and could be there in 2 minutes. The officer already had his pals from Heafners on the way. When I got out the next day the woman at the office was completly RUDE yelled at me the whole conversation. They are charging me 120 for towing and 30dollars a day storage. If I want my belongings she said it would cost me the title to my car and 85 dollars. I spoke to two lawyers they said unfortunatly they are within the law. It is clearly legalized BLACKMAIL!!!! more

Rip Offs! 11/5/2008

Had a collision downtown Gastonia. The police officer would not wait until I could find a reputable towing company, so he hurriedly called his friends or the company that the department obviously has a contract / agreement with= Hefners. more

don't 6/17/2008

I believe that the measure of a company is directly linked to the measure of the man who owns it. I have never used the company called Heafner Towing and Recovery located in Gastonia, NC. I will never use this company nor any other company associated with the man name Allan C. Heafner. I have a great niece, she is a lovely young woman, she is smart, articulate and very pretty. She began a job at Heafner Towing and Recovery on Monday, June 9th , and was terminated on Thursday, June 12th because she was ?ignorant?. I am a very old person and in all my life I have never heard of a man firing a pretty young woman for being ?ignorant?, I have heard of other reasons that in this day and age are considered perverted as well as illegal. My niece gave up a decent job when Mr. Heafner offered her this one and now she has been released for not being able to master the complex world of towing cars in just four days. I believe that if a man acts in a manner that smacks of, at best an unkind demeanor, or at worst a perverted nature can not be trusted in the business world. more
