Best sushi in Boulder! 10/27/2011

I go to Hapa all of the time when I want sushi in Boulder. They have a really good selection of sushi and it is all really good quality! It isn't ridiculously expensive either, like most places in Boulder. Hapa is always really busy but you don't have to wait long for a table. Plus sitting on their patio and watching people stroll by on Pearl is always a fun experience!! Love it! more

Hapa is a joke! 4/12/2010

I went into Hapa on a saturday night with my wife and we were sat near the fronthost stand. There was a short man with glasses arguing with an woman who i am guessing was his wife. I asked our server who he was and he said that the man was Mark, the owner of hape. I was shocked! I just heard this guy drop 2 f-bombs and a few other curse words while arguing over a table time with this woman! I was a good 12 feet away and heard it all. You could tell the hosts were a little uneasy standing next to them. I will NEVER go back to this establishment again. If the owner is that unprofessional in person, than I feel sorry for his staff. I am a chef in Denver and for an owner to act like that in ear shot of guests is ridiculous. Maybe this Mark guy should not be in his own restaraunts! Pros: Server was great Cons: Owner is a nutjob, very unprofessional more

Best sushi resturaunt of my life 7/21/2009

Great atmosphire, great people, great food more

Uninspiring rolls, tries to be hip. 1/25/2009

OK for a quick lunch but if you're looking for a special meal, there are much better sushi restaurants in Boulder. All three of the rolls were just variations on the same theme, the crab (krab) was bland, and the unagi was disappointingly dry. I give restaurant 3 stars because the teriyaki bowl my husband had was very nicely prepared and tasty. Pros: nice location, quick service, good teriyaki for those not wanting sushi Cons: inconsistant quality per visit, boring rolls more

Worse than boxed sushi at the grocery store!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11/9/2008

Wow if this is what Boulder thinks is good sushi then I should defiantly open a sushi joint here (and I'm white!). This was by far the worst sushi i have ever had, even worse than the take out stuff from whole foods! Our sushi was full of sinew, short on rice and falling apart when we picked it up. Taste was nothing special either, in fact some of the vegetarian rolls are just plain gross. For 50 bucks for lunch, which was 4 cheap rolls, miso soup, edamame and a sopporo i will never be back. such a rip off, and i agree it is not real sushi, really just dopey college kids trying to roll sushi. Zanmai and Toro are way better bets and are similarly priced. Pros: Service for Boulder was OK Cons: Terrible food, no value more

Great Sushi 8/27/2008

What a find! I stopped by while walking down Pearl St. and am happy that I did. Casual environment and great sushi! more

Sushi sent from heaven! 8/3/2008

Hapa is absolutely the best! I get these really intense cravings for their Multiple O rolls sometimes; they are so amazing. Hapa on Pearl has a little bit more sophisticated vibe than Hapa on the Hill, which is usually full of Greek students. Their spiced edamame is out of this world-it will really put you on fire. This is the best sushi place in Boulder, hands down. more

awesome sushi 7/19/2008

love love love love it!\r the ambience is awesome and i've never had a grumpy waiter. the food is absolutely delicious!\r whenever im down my boyfriend always takes me here.... he knows exactly how to pick me up! Pros: food, ambience, Cons: a little crowded more

Great food! 4/15/2008

Loved the sushi, the service was great. A little loud for my taste, but that was because they were extremely busy! more

best sushi ever 8/18/2007

The staff is friendly up beat and helpful, and the food is amazing! It can be very inexpensive or you can go all out and get yourself a wonderful feast. The california rolls and terriaki soy beans are HIGHLY recommended! Pros: food and service! Cons: sometimes the seating can be awkward more

great sushi! 3/16/2007

I had my birthday there last year. We had 9 people in our party and had great service! The sushi is awesome and the setting is great. I HIGHLY recommend going to this place! Pros: conveniently located at Pearl St. Mall more

Best inland sushi ever! 11/15/2006

This place rocks! There is so much selection from beginner rolls, to the more exotic choices. Decor is great, the fresh flowers are amazing, and service is always competent and friendly. Pros: #9 Roll, Tuna Tarro Poke more

ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!! 4/1/2006

My three friends and I were extremely disappointed FIRST TIME customers. We arrived on Friday around 8:30pm and were informed of an hour waiting list. We put on our name down and were invited to wait at the bar in the back of the restaurant. Well, AN HOUR AND A HALF later, not only were we still were not seated, but we saw 3 parties of four (who arrived after we did) seated before us. It was unbelievably unacceptable. As we walked out the door, we were told we had to wait for a table and when we responded how long we had been waiting, the waitstaff simply brushed us off. There was no apology or no offers for a discount meal, the only thing we received during our wait was a free round of drinks... as if that would compensate! Pros: drinks Cons: service, no reservations more

Worst service EVER!!! 3/14/2006

Our night was HORRIBLE!! We were 4th on the list with an hour wait. After an hour and a half wait, we finally walked out. Everyone (including people arriving after us) had been sat before us. We were the last group in the bar! The last straw was when the hostest sat 3 ladies (who arrived after us) in a table that sat 4, and had a purse taking up the 4th chair. Not a good night!!!!! Then the hostest's looked at us like she couldn't believe we were leaving Hapa's. You got to be kidding me???? Won't ever return!!!! Pros: N/A Cons: Wort service ever!!, No reservations more

EXCELLENT SUSHI IN BOULDER! 10/10/2005

We had excellent service, even when the place got busy. Salad was NOT limp but very tasty. All rolls & sashimi were superb & FRESH!! By far, one of the best! Save room for dessert: Banana Bread Pudding. Pros: VERY FRIENDLY STAFF, HAPPY HOUR DEALS more

Not the best in Boulder 6/2/2005

Fun and Fresh 5/25/2004

This place is always hopping and with good reason! Not only is it GREAT for fresh sushi, the people watching is incredible, both inside and out. The servers are funky and hip, as well as great at their jobs. The hosts are very polite as well. I always have a great time at this place, although I do wish they'd get a bigger dining area. Pros: People Watching, Fresh Sushi, Ambience Cons: , Bad Parking, Long Wait Times more

fast, fresh & fantastic! 10/22/2002

The freshest, most incredible sushi....every time I've been there. I usually order strickly sushi, but the many different ""rolls"" are fabulous. Large variety....every kind of sushi I could ever want! Pros: large portions, fast service, fresh Cons: not much seating more

Trendier than the Den! 10/7/2002

Hapa is trendier and better people watching than sushi den, plus the wait staff is less rude! By the time I had dinner, I had downed a big ol box of delicious saki and just remeber the rolls were superb. Pros: Good food, good drink, good location Cons: pricy, small more
