Best

And why wouldn't it be crowded, this place has amazing food. Not your average diner. Quick delicious food with plenty of extras. They really know how to make you feel at home.

Worst

went here after seeing it on triple D...what a mistake! this place looks like a dump from the outside...the food is just gross, nothing special about it at all, i mean if you like...

We eat here often, even tho it is 12 miles from home. They have the best home-cooked food you can get at any restaurant. Breakfast is served 24-hrs a day, and Grampas makes grits to just die for. You get warm pastry as soon as you sit down. Great way to welcome a customer!! They have fresh specials for lunch daily and the choices are varied, delicious, and very reasonably priced. All their bread and pastry is made right there and when you taste it you'll know it. It has been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on satellite tv (food channel or travel channel...I can't remember) and Guy Fieri (sp.) raved about it. I highly recommend this little jewel tucked in on US 1 in Dania Beach, FL. It's like eating at home with a family of long-time staff and friendly management more

Since I have moved to Hollywood, My boyfriend and I would always visit Grampa's. We are regulars that have been about 6 times in the last month. When we had visitors we would suggest going to Grampa's because the food was so great. Also Tommy Grimes (owner) is very personable and nice! As of today I will not be returning. I brought my friend to experience the good food at Grampa's and instead she almost ended up having an anxiety attack. We waited 40 minutes until we had our orders taken because we were forgotten about but we did not care about that. We were not rude about it and did not complain. After eating we left to go pay the bill in good spirits. We got some items from the bakery and went to go pay. We asked the cashier if we could split the bill in half and she slammed her hands on the desk. She stormed away to ask our waitress if she could split it. When she came back she rudely told that she would not split it for us and if we needed it to be split then we needed to figure it out ourselves. This was not a big deal so my friend and I figured it out and paid. Meanwhile she is yelling at us for not asking our waitress to split the bill. I noticed when she was making sure we paid the right amount she looked at my receipt and shrugged her shoulders like saying "oh well". Once I got outside I realized she charged me 10 extra dollars. I did not want to deal with her again but my friend insisted that I should say something. So I went back inside and asked for the manager. She told me she was the manager and what did I want. I said you charged me 10 extra dollars and she said she knew she did. She then stormed off again and she said, "That's it, I'm out of here" and threw a pen across the room. I had someone else help me who was very nice. While I was trying to fix the bill the woman was screaming about me in the kitchen and came back out and said "Why did you want to see the manager" and I said "because normally managers are the ones who deal with billing mistakes." Then she said "NO NO NO why did you want to talk to the manager? You want to talk to me? We can take this out back!". I was horrified. I ignored her while she was still screaming at me in front of the entire restaurant. I was sure she was going to come after me when I was in the parking lot. I am ALWAYS respectful when I go to restaurant. I refuse to send things back or complain about anything. I cannot imagine if someone that would have talked back to her would have been in my shoes. more

Used to travel to South FLA a lot and have eaten here so many times the staff probably thinks I live in the neihborhood. Love the corn beef sandwich also good soups, Nice gaint salads, great sevice! Best Bakery I have found in all of South Florida.I would stop by in the morning and pick up 2-3 of the fuit topped coffee cakes and bring to customers in Miami, it was always a big hit. They are so good and look amazing. more

We recently visited the Fort Lauderdale area on vacation and wanted to try some of the local restaurants. We saw that this place was visited by Guy Fieri as part of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives so we decided to go. We were leaving town the day we went so we delayed until brunch so that we could eat a little more. It was everything I expected it to be. It was a friendly little neighborhood diner serving up great food at a very fair price. Couldn't ask any more of a diner. Would go again if I was in town again. more

I've eaten here many times and I can appreciate the reason why restaurants have specials. After ordering off of the regular menu for years, I recently figured out the reason I was always disappointed: I was ordering the wrong things. The lamb shank should not be missed. It is delicious and reminds me of my grandmother's cooking. The fruit salad is also a hit. The honey-yogurt dressing and fresh banana bread are really good. more

Well my family flew in from canada and we decided to go to grandpas for lunch...we sat down, a skinny older lady was our waitress. Me and my mom shared a grilled cheese and cheese cake and my... aunt and uncle ordered a salad with no blu cheese crumbes and french dressing and coffee with milk...the lady brough out the salad with blue cheese crumbs and blue cheese dressing but forgot the coffe, she didnt do anything about the salad but blame the kitchen ( understandable) ...so after about 5-10 min of waiting ( they were not busy at all) for the waitress to come to our table to ask if we needed anything, i got fed up and walked over to where she was and asked for the coffe and milk...she brought it over and immediatly walked away...my aunt and uncle brought to my attention that they did not recive rolls with there meal....so i waited a few more min to see if the waitress was going to check on us..of course not....so i went up to her, she told me that they normaly chrage for bread but she wouldnt chrage...( the salad comes w bread...duh) so she brought over the bread and insisted it didnt come the the grilled cheese sandwhich, but we told her it did come with the salad, yet she insisted it did not come with the sandwhich....( what a dumbass), so we had to leave to get to the funeral home and still no waitress would pay us attention, so i went over to her yet again and asked for the cheesecake and for the bill to be split.. in a rude tone she said i cant split it, i already put it in the computer ( im a waitress, and i know u can split a check even if you put it into the computer) she then followed with, when you go to a resturant your suppose to ask to split the check before you order..( she just didnt want to put any effort into anything) so i asked her to divide the check and she started yelling at me saying " i cannot split the check" so i yelled back at her not to yell at me....and walked back to the table...where she had the busser bring us the check, my family explained that my grandmother had just passed away and thats when i started crying...so the waitress then yelled to whomever to " GET THEM OUT OF HERE" refering to me and my family. My mother spoke to the owner who didnt charge us for our $25 meal and as we were walking out of the resturant the waitress was talking shit so that EVERYONE could hear, SO i yelled at her and said, i am a waitress and you SUCK as one! I will never go back and i hope the waitress gets fired...Even if the customer is wrong, the waiter/waitress should respect a paying customer more

Have been here about 5-6 times. Service is always quick and friendly. Most items we have had were good. They include complimentary danish with your breakfast order. Really yummy. The bakery looks fantastic-have not tried besides the free danish. They kind of milk the Diners Drive ins and Dives thing-but other wise enjoyable. more

I ordered the Lamb shank which was mammoth! A family of 4 can feast on that one meal alone! This was the dish featured on that Food Networks , " Drive ins, Diners, and Dives". First time eating Lamb, and first time eating at Grampa's. The service was excellent, the food was ok nothing out of this world. They do have some really good southern pecan sticky buns, that are complimentary before your meal. But overall it seems too pricey, for the type of food and lack of ambiance. more

50+ years - they must be doing something right! 12/23/2009

Great food and wonderful experience. We went because it was featured on Diners Driveins & Dives...Guy Fieri is the best. Nothing too fancy but everything we ordered was delicious (blueberry pancakes, western omlette, biscuits & gravy). Nice atmosphere (old-time; nostalgic), everybody was friendly and service was good even though it was VERY busy. Something different from same old corporate restaurants and chains. This hit the spot. more

horrible breakfast 12/2/2009

The sign said to seat yourself, which we did. then we sat there and sat there. Then finally a server asked, have we been served? we said no.then she yell to the other server why didnt you get these customers? So she took our order, then brought us our food, it looked like crap. I ordered scrambled eggs, they werent even scrambled. My friend ordered a waffle it looked like it was made with my daughters Easy Bake Oven. and it was not cheap either it was my first and last going there.they didnt even refill our coffee either Pros: none Cons: none more

Excellent Place for Breakfast! 5/25/2008

I highly recommend Grampa's Bakery for breakfast. Everything on the menu is wonderful and they give you complementary danish with your breakfast. So much good food. Lunch is fine but breakfast is Divine. Check out the bakery to bring goodies home. more

Grampas is yum yum good! 11/4/2005

This place has been there a long time! Wow what a menu! I had breakfast there and it was delicous! They offer a variety of foods. They also have a bakery where they make lots of things from bagels, to cookies to even wedding cakes! I highly recommend this place especially if you are from out of town or have people visiting. The menu is very reasonably priced too. more

The Baked Goods Here Are Never "Half-Baked" 7/30/2005

This report isstrictly for their bakery, not for the restaurant part which I recommend strictly for breakfast. They have a delicious selection of homemade baked goods for takeout. Pies, cakes, cookies and danish are all consistently good. They won a first prize several years back for their black and white cookies and they are well-deserving of that honor. PROS: wonderful pastries, nice owners CONS: more

Very Expensive for a sandwich 7/24/2004

The lunch was great, but to pay $15.00 for a sandwich and $3.50 per soda no refills is crazy. Pros: Good food more
