I'm always leery of these reviews, because I know that anyone can write them and say whatever they want, but our experience was so good that I'm compelled to share it with anyone ...

Paid A Lot of Money....Got Littel Value...Beware of ALL Such Companies!!! 11/10/2008

OK..so we called up for their advertised 99 dollar special in 2006. I think we got a coupon in one of those pieces of mail that is really an envelope full of coupons...maybe it was a postcard..something like that Pros: They did perform some cleaning the one time they showed up Cons: They sold me a promise of future free cleanings. They went bellyup. I paid four times their original advertised price. more

They're con artists 9/24/2008

We tried to get them to finish work they started and they wouldn't even return our calls. It looks like they disappeared in the middle of the night with a bunch of unpaid bills. I hear they've setup shop under a different name in Agawam, MA (I think Affordable Duct Cleaning?) and are a part of Longo Carpet Cleaning. You would think a company like Longo would know better... Pros: They're out of business and can do no more damage Cons: They'll be back... more

The ultimate RIPOFF! 7/31/2008

Don't ever call them. They take advantage of people who don't know anything about 'Duct cleaning' and ripp you off like you won't believe it! ! They stole my money! They surely know how to do that well. Nice work! more

Surprisingly good experience! 7/19/2008

I'm always leery of these reviews, because I know that anyone can write them and say whatever they want, but our experience was so good that I'm compelled to share it with anyone else who might be looking for info about Gold Star. We booked a basic duct cleaning for $49.95 from a flyer that came with val-pak. The guys called ahead and asked if they could come half an hour early, which worked well for us. They were very nice, and I had done some research and read reviews (here and elsewhere) before they came so I was prepared for ""the sell"" and to be told that my ducts were disgusting and that I needed lots of additional cleaning and services. What I got was much better than what I had expected. It wasn't a hard sell and I never felt pressured to spend anything over the $50. I just felt like these were nice guys, doing a job, and offering me additional ways to improve the air quality of my home if that's something that I felt like I wanted to do. It was nice to have our system inspected and learn that it was in surprisingly good shape, rather than ""everything up there's rott'n lady, get your checkbook out."" We did buy additional services and products, but nothing that I didn't really feel like we needed. They're going to come out and install a programmable thermostat for us, which is something we've been wanting for a long time! You know how when you somehow get bamboozled into spending money unnecessarily, you get that sense of worry and doubt afterwards, like ""omg did I really just do that... are they high-fiving each other in their truck right now at what a suckr I am""? lol Well, rather than feeling that way, I felt so positive about my Gold Star experience that as soon as they left I came on here to share with others who might be considering doing business with this company. Even if all I had spent was the $50 for basic cleaning, I would have felt like I got very good value for my money. We spent quite a bit more in the end, but I think it's worth it. Pros: Professional, friendly, knowledgeable Cons: Not cheap, but fair more

Good knowledge of air duct cleaners 5/7/2008

I called Gold Star to book an appointment but didnt have a lot of info about air duct cleaning. I had concerns about my childrens asthma and allergies with the dust thats in my house. Everytime I turned on the heat, the kids would get runny noses and have trouble breathing at night. I spoke to a nice young lady on the phone who told me the services they provided and how they clean the ducts. When the guys came, they asked me for a tour of the house to get an accurate count of the vents. As we went around, he explained what needed to be done, and he did the video inspection. I could not believe the build up of dust that was in there! After that, they showed me the filter I was using (which my husband never changes!) and the fan, I took their recommendation and did the full cleaning. While they cleaned they showed me a flier on UV light systems and gave me a website to visit. A couple of days later, they came and installed the UV light system and my kids' symptoms did seem to subside. Although I did pay more than I expected, thanks to them my home is healthier and I am happier. Pros: The guys were great! Cons: Paid more but got more! more

Good company, good air duct cleaners, good staff 5/2/2008

My mother and I share a condo in Western Mass and we split the bills as well. We received a coupon for $49.95 for air duct cleaning. I was excited about this because my mother smokes in her half of the house and I dont. I also have allergies to dust and I cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke! When the technicians came, they totally knew everything about the system and explained everything to me as if they were teaching me how to take care of it so it lasts longer. The girl I talked to when I made the appointmnt told me he would look at it and tell me if he recommended anything else. The technician told me about a UV light system that would eliminate any harmfule things in my home's air including odors like cigrette smoke! They even installed it for free 2 days later and were on time! The girl I talked to when I made the appointment was very nice and she knew what she was talking about and explained everything to me in detail. The technicians that came to my house not only took off their shoes before coming in, but put little booties on so they would not track dirt onto my gray/white carpet! They knew exactly what I needed to do to my house and gave me a great deal on the other services they did. I would highly recommended them and have to my family and friends. Pros: my air in my home is much better Cons: They were 15 mins late more

Poor performance all around 4/24/2008

It seems as though my experience is very similar to the previous reviews. First off they were late. Apparently it was a communication error on the part of the scheduler. The techs had gone out on a 8am to 10am job and I was scheduled for 9am to 10am (for them to show). No one came until after 11am. Also fell for the 49.95 ""deal"" for 10 vents, one main, one return. We also had two mains which was another 89.95. That is more than they charged for the rest of the work. I was very uncomfortable with one of the workers. He was very condescending. I felt pressure to purchase other services. While I spoke to my husband over the phone, the worker seemed annoyed if I swayed him against any. The really pushed for a service plan which we were totally against until we could evaluate there work performance. While cleaning the ducts, the rest of the house became filthy. I felt they were just pulling out the dirt and dispersing it into the air only to rest of the rest of the house and get back into the vents. The chemical that they had used had dripped onto the floors in the first floor. The vent doors where not placed back on in one of the rooms which I pointed out. He tried to place it back on but blamed it on being an old house and stripping of the screw. I think they need to be prepared for such experiences. It is literally now barely on there!! Another vent in the kids bathroom had one screw sticking out. This could have hurt one of there feet while in there or even posed a chocking hazard it it became dislodged. They try to make up for there lack of performance by overing ""discounts"" and free stuff but hardly worth it. Lastly, I found a screw on the first floor, a definate chocking hazard for my one year old. I hope this helps!! I would hate for anyone to have a similar experience. more

Very, very, very sloppy and very disappointed with their service... 2/9/2008

I got sucked in by an advertisement in a magazine ($89 for a cleaning (1 intake)). They showed up with their equipment in their hands. The lead guy was a fast talker and he wrote up an estimate. He then showed me the final number and my eyes popped out of my scull. Then he called their boss and he struck a ""deal"" with me. Just like a used car dealer!!! I do not have that much time and I am not too smart, so I let them do the work and they got me for over $750 (the other reviewer got off easy). (In my defense their estimate was in line with an estimate that I got 2 years ago so I said OK.) All of the guys who worked on my house were really young. They were nice and respectful of me and my toddler, but they did things that were sloppy and dangerous. While they were working I went into my basement and found filthy pieces of sharp metal sitting on my basement floor. A major disappointment was how they hacked the vent work in my finished basement. They made no attempt to hide the access points in the vents. Very, very disappointing. (I am getting angry thinking about it.) Another problem was that they had this vacuum running that was spewing dust into my house. My daughter and I were coughing and I told the kid about it twice and he just looked at me. The biggest problem was how sloppy they were. I found screws and filthy rags in the basement and in my bathroom. My daughter even found a filthy rag behind our couch. The biggest scare of this whole episode was when I then went into my basement and found a large jagged piece of metal where my kids play. I called the manager and he had nothing to say and he sent out an inspector who did nothing. I truly regret calling these guys and will never do business with them again. Pros: They showed up on time Cons: Expensive, sloppy and trashed my ducts more

If you get a coupon for a $90 cleaning, expect to pay AT LEAST double!!! FALSE ADVERTISING!! 2/4/2008

My service was cancelled twice, and when they finally showed up, they were 2 hours late. Because of the inconvenience, they offered to do the cleaning for 20% less than the advertised price of $89.95. That would be $72. Pros: You get to waste an hour talking with the service rep. Cons: You get to waste twice as much money as you thought. more
