Best

fresh food, cooked impeccably. still chines food tho!

Worst

Whatever any of the previous reviews say, this is not authentic Chinese food--and it is not particularly well executed fusion food, either. Also, my wine-by-the-glass tasted more ...

No gold in this temple 5/6/2006

My girlfriend and I went for lunch from a friend's recommendation. The selection of chinese food was very diassapointing and not well prepared. We ordered the shanghai noodles, they did not resemble the traditional dish at all. Instead of using fresh made noodles they substituted packaged noodles and used far too much meat, greasy sauce. I think they try to fool the typical take-out customers who don't have much knowledge in guenuine Chinese Food. Pros: clean Cons: food, service, ambience more

I LOVED IT 5/2/2006

I had dinner here recently and it was great. I loved the food and the service I got here. There was alot to choose from on the menu which was good. I had a little of everything. Great service here as well. We were seated quick. We didn't have to wait for a table for too long. Loved it here! Pros: Food, Service, Inexpensive more

just ok 4/20/2006

i had high expectations and golden temple failed to meet them. we had reservations for 7 and they did not seat us until 745. no good reason was provided. food is expensive, but tasty. parking was almost impossible to find in washington square Pros: decor, tasty Cons: no parking!, expensive food, poor service more

too expencive for what you get 4/8/2006

the food is greasy and it taste as cheap chinese restaurant . too expensive for what you get.it's better have a take out food in your nearby chinese delivery rest thant go to the golden tample. the only one goo thing is the atmophere that's beutifull but you can not eat that.. Pros: the decoration, drinks Cons: expensive, greasy more

Why does everyone like this place? 2/27/2006

I really am happy that they use such healthy methods of cooking, but the food is so bland and tasteless. It is sooo expensive. I live just around the corner from Golden Temple, but I never go, there is so much better Chinese in Boston than Golden $$$$$ Temple. Pros: Healthy, Organic, Fancy Cons: Over-priced, Over-hyped, Pretentious more

Expensive food. 9/27/2005

Very expensive. The food is average quality and you can get the same dishes at any other Chinese restaurants, for only a fraction of what Golden Temple charges you. The atmosphere is nice, but still does not make up for how much they charge you. Pros: Pretty Establishment Cons: Expensive more

I love this place! 9/14/2005

Golden Temple is simply the best place for Chinese. The restaurant is beautiful with high ceilings and attractive decor. It is excellent for dates. Very romantic and very classy. And the food! Simply delicious. My favorite is the scallops sweet and sour. Amazing! The crab rangoon appetizer is exceptional. The only bad thing I have ever had here were their pina coladas. They were not frozen but with ice cubes (what is that??) and not blended very well, probably made from a mix. Everything else, however, is consistently above average. Oh, it's a lot more than what most people are used to paying for Chinese, I am sure, but believe me, it is so worth it. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: pricey for Chinese more

Good Chinese in Brookline 7/4/2005

I went for Valentine's Day and I couldn't have asked for anything more. The atmosphere was very romantic and the food was fantastic. Prices were much less than I expected based on the reviews and even included champagne flutes, a rose for the lady, and chocolate covered fortune cookies. Pros: T Accessible more

Better than San Francisco 12/19/2004

I love chinese food and this place is a real gem! I'm from San Francisco and there are a lot of great reataurants there and great chinese food also but there isn't a chinese restaurant that has great atmosphere, great late night bar til 2 AM and great martinis like the Golden Temple. The E Room has great music. The Mussels in tomato wine, Golden Temple Ribs, Chicken Soong, Salt & Pepper Lobster, Beijing Duck are my favorites. The place is expensive but well worth it. Pros: open late, great drinks, great food Cons: , crowded, parking more

TRUST A CHAUFFEUR ! 6/1/2004

I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THIS RESTUARANT ! A REALLY GOOD, PIG OUT DINNER WITH ALL YOU CAN DRINK WILL SET A COUPLE BACK AT LEAST $80.00-$100.00 DOLLARS BUT WORTH EVERY PENNY. IVE EATEN HERE FOR YEARS ,THE ONLY PROBLEM YOU WILL HAVE IS ONCE YOU EAT HERE, YOU WILL BE SPOILED BY THE FOOD AND SERVICE AND ALL OTHER ""REGULAR"" CHINESE RESTUARANTS WONT COMPARE TO THE TASTE OF THE GT. THE LIGHTLY BATTERED CHICKEN FINGERS, YOU WILL NEVER TASTE THEM THE SAME ANYWHERE ELSE, LASTLY, THE ""GT STYLE"" SPARERIBS WHERE EVERY OTHER BONE IS CUT OUT SO YOU GET THE MEAT OF 2 SPARERIBS ON ONE BONE...IS TO DIE FOR...YOU GOTTA TRUST ME ON THIS ONE. A 5 STAR RESTUARANT, AN AWESOME PLACE TO TAKE A FIRST DATE, ESPECIALLY IF HE OR SHE LOVES CHINESE FOOD.........GREAT STARTER PLACE B4 A NIGHT OF HArd PARTYING ALSO........HAVE FUN....R.COMINS WEST ROXBURY Pros: INCREDIBLE FOOD, GREAT PORTIONS Cons: , A LITTLE EXPENSIVE more

Best Chinese in Boston 10/28/2003

Like any restaraunt NOT serving food out of plastic pouches, there is a little inconsistency from one visit to the next. Also, if you have a set idea of what you favorite ""Chinese"" dish should be, GT might do that dish differently. But the QUALITY of the food I've had time and again has been exceptional. GT's Chicken Cashew is VERY mild and I don't like that dish there. But Beef with Green Beans and Onions, Moo Shi Pork, and numerous other dishes at GT far surpass the usual Chinese fare I've had, in Chinatown or not. more

Awful food, but too busy looking to mind 8/13/2003

Whatever any of the previous reviews say, this is not authentic Chinese food--and it is not particularly well executed fusion food, either. Also, my wine-by-the-glass tasted more than two days old. [I'm young: possibly the servers thought I wouldn't notice.] GT's saving grace is its decor --which is possibly good enough to merit a visit, alone. My suggestion is to go for drinks. But skip the wine. Pros: beautiful decor Cons: awful food, old wine more

GT Over PF anyday 8/2/2003

Golden Temple and PF Chang's are GREAT restaurants and I've been going to both for a while, but honestly, Golden Temple is the winner. Prices are better at Chang's for the most part, but you get what you pay for--Americanized Chinese food. If you're willing to put in the extra money, Golden Temple gives you a better dining experience than the congested theatre crowd of Chang's. Sure, if you've got a couple hours to kill before getting a table, go for Chang's. As far as service, Golden Temple's service is excellent, however it wouldn't hurt for some of them to crack a smile. At Chang's, the service varies and you feel so rushed to leave after you've been waiting for 2 hours to sit. Overall, the food is better at Golden Temple, and they have an OUTSTANDING drink menu!!! It's no wonder they're the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Pros: cocktails, food, ambiance more

Reminds me of HK 7/17/2003

I have moved from Hong Kong where there are tens of thousands of restaurants. Golden Temple would fit in back home. Elegant dining room incorporates all the elements of Feng Shui (very often used in the design of successful restaurants back home). Excellent service (prompt & respectful), beautifully presented food, wonderful mixed drinks. Parking would be a problem if they did not have valet parking. My favorite dish is the steamed ginger sea bass. As for the comment by another reviewer, there are many Chinese that come to the Golden Temple. Coming from Hong Kong with its high standards for dining, I appreciated Golden Temple even more. Pros: No MSG food, Exotic drinks, ambience Cons: Reservation a must more

Wow! 7/9/2003

When step into this suburban chinese you feel you've steped into some place in LA, SF, NY, South Beach. It doesn't feel chinese either. The Golden Temple Ribs are to die for. The Stoli Doli taste like you are in Maui. The Bejing Duck is the leanest I've ever had. I eat here at least once a week I You got to listen to the tunes they play in the E room. more

I feel like I'm in New York City 7/8/2003

I moved to Brookline 18 months ago from New York City and thought I would never find a Chinese restaurant or any restaurants in Boston I would enjoy like I did in New York. Golden Temple is as closest as it comes to being in New York. The atmosphere is on par with Ruby Foo's or Chin Chin in New York. The food at Golden Temple is different but equally as good in it's own way. The drinks are definitely better at Golden Temple; especially the Stoli Doli. The service is great for a Chinese restaurant especially for Boston but coming from New York it loses a couple notches. Over all I love going to Golden Temple late at night and listening to the house DJ and they have great delivery also when I stay home. more

So many better options` 5/15/2003

The options in Brookline let alone Boston offer so much more then Golden Temple. it is expensive, the service bad and the food tasteless comapered to good chinese food avaliable in mutiple places in less then a 5 mile radius. Not to mention the lack of parking. NOT worth a trip Pros: Location Cons: expensive, no parking, disgusting food more

Fantastico! 2/14/2003

great food- high quality, fresh ingredients- we go regularly (or have them deliver at midnight!) and the food is great- a bit more $ than other chinese resturants but worth it- great delivery- great restaurant atmosphere- the golden temple mai tai's are a must! more

Good Cantonese! 1/28/2003

very good service and atmosphere. Stick to the Cantonese style dishes. Pros: great service, nice atmosphere Cons: expensive more

Not a place to celebrate your birthday! 12/27/2002

Golden Temple needs more enthusiastic wait staff. Food was good, but the nonchalant attitudes of the aged and gloomy workers spolied our night. This is not the place to celebrate a cheery occasion. Pros: late-night dining, okay wine list, extensive menu Cons: crowded, noisy, aged workers more
