Best

fresh food, cooked impeccably. still chines food tho!

Worst

Whatever any of the previous reviews say, this is not authentic Chinese food--and it is not particularly well executed fusion food, either. Also, my wine-by-the-glass tasted more ...

Very good and consisent 11/29/2002

I am from Europe and have been in Boston for 15 months. I found Golden Temple to be very consisent. The food is very fresh and tasty. I have eaten there about at least 40-50 times. My favorite dishes are the Mandarin Chopped Tenderloin, Chilean Sea Bass, Sweet & Sour Shrimps, Hot & Spicey Chicken, Pot Stickers, and Salmon with Ginger. The food is never greasey and they don't use MSG. The place is very clean. One the owners likes champagne so the list is extensive and reasonably price The service is great and they know me by name and remember what I eat and drink. By European standards Golden Temple rates three stars. By American standards it is four stars. It is definitely the best chinese here in Boston. I don't understand why they don't have towels in the rest room but they have table cloths and linen napkins. Pros: Very fresh, Not greasey, Good Service Cons: parking, No paper towels in RR, limited desserts more

Inconsistent 11/9/2002

Sometimes the best chinese food around. Often the worst, especially when busy. more

Consistently ""Tawps"" 11/9/2002

Forgive the pun in the title, but the Taw family has been the best for a lotta years. Much of the menu is unusual and innovative ... one of the few places where I would try something new. Their classic Cantonese is my favorite. I grew up in Boston, go back often. I haven't been to Hong Kong, but have tried Chinese all around this country. Golden Temple is still the best. Pros: great food, exciting decor Cons: parking ng need valet, getting pricey more

The place sucks 11/9/2002

Golden Temple is crowded and too noisy. The food sucks and represents the worst of suburban Chinese food, especially in an area of Boston (Brookline) where there are FAR and more authentic better choices. more

Big Eater 11/9/2002

I have terrible experience at Golden Temple over the last weekend. My husband & I were waiting for 15 minute before we were greeted. The waiter never came to take drink order. When we're ready to order, the waiter were rushing us. When our appetizer came there was no sause which should have come with it. We were half way through our appetizer, then we had to reminded the waiter to bring the sause. When our main dish came, they were cold and had M.S.G. which we told the waiter not to put any of those in our dish. We were waiting for everything even the check! for at least 20 minutes. more

Stick with Chinatown! 10/24/2002

Based on this rating, my girlfriend and I decided to stop by and give it a shot. We had General Gau's chicken and the sauce was nasty, some moo goo gai pan that was very watery, pork fried rice that was hard and tasted 2 days old and spring rolls that were dripping with overused oil. My advice: sacfrifice the decor, save yourself some loot and go to Chinatown! Pros: Nice atmosphere, Efficient waitstaff, Good alcoholic drinks Cons: Overpriced, Overpriced, Quality of food more

The best for over 35 years! 10/18/2002

Golden Temple has long been a favorite of mine. Since graduating from High School (a very long time ago!), I have never found a Chinese restaurant that measures up to the high standards of Golden Temple. Excellent service, great food, and plenty of it, are the very hallmarks of this restaurant. more

Good Chinese Food? You must be kidding 9/24/2002

Based on the rave reviews here, I came here for dinner with a friend. The dining room is certainly elegant and very dramatic with the pagoda effect. But, you can't eat the decor. We ordered some ribs as an appetizer, based again on the rave reviews. They were ribs like any other million chinese restaurants. We had chicken and peanuts, which should have been called celery and peanuts in bland sauce. Bottom line...basic, unimaginative Chinese-American food in a beautiful dining room. Give me Chinatown anytime... Pros: Pretty Dining room, Late nite dining Cons: ordinary food, High prices, indifferent service more

Need to move closer 9/20/2002

This place really deserves 1st place. I've been there 3 times the last 2 weeks and ordered delivery twice. It's a great place and the different rooms make it interesting and very good for lounging at night in the E room. The Salmon and ginger is addictive. The Stoli Doli drink is the BEST I've had. The Clams and bean sauce are really good. I can't believe this place is a chinese restaurant. The bar even has a DJ at night. The food is better eaten there with a Stoli Doli. The food here is real fresh not like other chinese places. Just wish this place was in the South End. Pros: Good Time Cons: Not in South End more

A Shining Gem in Brookline 9/4/2002

A fantastic Chinese restaurant with some old familar's and new creations. Six of us after work ordered, the Golden Temple spare ribs & wings & spicy ginger clams...mouth-watering. The authentic hot & sour soup was spicy, flavorful & filling...the best I've had. We order Chardonnay Chicken, Special order of Steamed tofu &vegetable (for our health conscious friend), General Gau's Chicken, Chilean Sea Bass with black bean sauce, and E Room Tenderloin...the portions were huge...each of us had to bring home a takeout carton for leftovers. To celebrate my friends birthday the supplied us with the cake. The waiter was courteous & attentive to our needs. A mind boggling list of wines, excellent mai tais. Pros: Valet, Decor, Food quality Cons: Not one in NY, No brunch, Wait w/o reservation more

Great Chinese Food 8/31/2002

We've gone to Golden Temple for years now... it's a clean, pleasant and great place to go for drinks and dinner. Cons: parking can be tough more

Chinese for a healthy diet. 8/17/2002

I love this restaurant. I've been ordering their take out for years. The food is excellent, and I'm very health conscious, so I appreciate their many low fat menu items without msg. They don't skimp on the portions either, so there's always plenty of leftovers. After dinner, it's an easy segue into thier ""E"" lounge for drinks and dancing, where the decor is, I don't know, kind of modern asian with a bit of kitsch, and the music is a good mix of jazz, lounge, and electronic, which attracts a good mix of local sophisticates and cosmopolitans. A hip place for hipsters who don't take themselves too seriously, Boston needs more places like this. Pros: ambience, valet parking, healthy Cons: little pricey more

reliable reviews 8/16/2002

My girlfriend and I love eating out and we moved to Boston recently and we asked around where we should go for various types of food and also checked out this website and found the reviews here quite reliable. Golden Temple was on the list of places we had to o go. It certainly has been a great experience all 5 times we've been there. The place is beautful, the ribs great, beijing duck the best, stoli doli's awsome. Thanks to everyone for sharing this great find. more

Average 8/15/2002

They have the most basic food that you could get anywhere else for the same portions, except that it is much cheaper at other places. Everything is way too expensive at Golden Temple, I suggest going to Chef Chow's or Chef Chang's in Brookline for better food prices. Pros: Nice Decor Cons: Very Expensive, Average Food, Average Service more

Worst Chinese Food I've Ever Eaten 8/13/2002

I've eaten there numerous times and have usually enjoyed it tremendously. However, last night was honestly the worst Chinese food I've ever had. We had to send one of our entrees back, and the second version was an almost exact duplicate of the first. It was supposed to be kung pao chicken. There were no peanuts or szechuan peppers, it was incredibly bland and the entree's main ingredient was celery. Neither entree had any flavor. Even our tea was tasteless. The manager tried to help, but no changes/results came from his involvement. It's a sad loss of a formerly great restaurant. more

Be sure to talk to the MC JonMichael - he makes the entire trip memorable! Pros: Jonmichael more

Just Great! 8/5/2002

I really have a great time every time I go there! Steve at the bar is the best; he has my Stoli-Doli ready just as I sit down. Last month I had a meeting with six associates from Rome, Paris, LA, NY, Chicago, and Toronto and everyone was impressed with the food and wine but above all they couldn't believe they were in chinese restaurant; the decor they all felt was like being at a swank NY or Paris restaurant. Pros: Great, Great, Great more

Great place 7/26/2002

Authentic Chinese in one of the coolest buildings I have ever been in! The food and service are awesome, and the drinks from the bar are to die for! more

wish I found this place sooner 6/20/2002

It's hard to believe I was born in Boston and I finally after reaching 20 got to Golden Temple when they have been there for 40 years. My family never liked Chinese food until we ate at Golden Temple last year. Now the whole family eats there and does delivery twice a week. Those ribs, lobster and duck dishes are fantastic! This place also has the best decor and it's great to take a date there. I hope they open one in the Back Bay area. Pros: very comfortable, best chinese, great ribs Cons: parking, not close enough more
