Best

Im officially in love with Gladstone's restaurant in mailibu. it is so beautifull there and not only that the food is amazing too. I'm a picky person and i like me some good soup....

Worst

This is like so many places all over the U.S. Beach cities are full of these fish barns. This is one of the worst. Don't go expecting good food, service, or drinks. The only thin...

LOVED it with Old owner..HATE it now 10/12/2011

Went with a party of nine not knowing the ownership changed hands. Had a gift card for $400..plenty for non-drinkers, right? The Tempura Coconut Shrimp was what we came for but now was off the menu entirely. The waiter spilled the ice water tray on my handicapped aunt and cousin. Ended up ordering grissly steaks..at $38 buck a pop...TERRIBLE. Bill came to $370 with a "suggested" gratuity of $73. They wouldn't let us put the balance of $30 toward the gratuity. The wait staff were attentive but the food was absolutely inedible. The views were nice and we enjoyed it regardless because we were with family. Don't bother! more

Used to be a must.... not so anymore! 8/6/2011

Well over the years, this has always been a must event for my family. NOT anymore... The favorite menu items are all gone, the place seems more "worn" than it used to, and top it off, the prices are way beyond the food quality. Don't get me wrong the food isn't that bad but it IS over-priced. $26 for 3 pieces of fish and some soggy fries??? Service has dropped as well. From the moment we walked in the whole family felt pressured to get done and leave. Slow bread delivery, asking to take my dish while I still had my fork in my hand and food in my mouth and handing me the check BEFORE I was even asked if we wanted dessert. Force to valet park and now, in an attempt to "upscale the place, matrons in the bathroom, looking for tips... what, I can't get my own paper towel without being pimped for a tip?? $190 for two adults and two teenagers... Could have had a better dinner, and cheaper, at just about any chain restaurant. more

Talk about Attitude! 7/18/2011

If I could have given half a star I would have! I have been to this place a couple of times and the last time did it for me! We headed the place for breakfast got there at 10:40, at 10:55 a very rude waiter came to us and said that since it's almost 11 they won't serve breakfast. We tried explaining that we were waiving for you for at least 10 min but nobody got our order but no use. Then the attitude started. The coffee was pushed to our table, when mentioned that the cup has a lipstick smug on it, it was taken away and dropped loudly on the table next to us (which was no occupied). I asked for the Veggie omelet which supposed to have goat cheese. The goat cheese was substituted with American cheese without letting me know. Bacon was burned and bread was stale. The manager passed by asking how everything was, after we explained, he said well we were not suppose to serve you breakfast at all BUT i will let the Chef know! and of course, no feedback after that. Rude manager, rude waiter, bad service. Do NOT waste your time and money. more

Why? 5/27/2011

That's all I can ask, "Why?" Why did you change your menu, why did you double your prices? One of the greatest attractions in Malibu has been decimated by corporate ownership, appetizers for three adults and a 2 year old were $125 with valet fees. Menu is very limited. Waitress was good, even if she did offer that the new ownership was a good thing. Maybe for her, but I won't be going back. Just this morning, my wife and I were discussing new carpet, but we realize it will have to wait; we ate at Gladstones this week! more

Delicious!! 2/22/2011

I've ordered almost every single item off the menu and have no complaint about any dish. This place is just truly awesome. I can go on and on about how delicious the food is, but you HAVE to try their baked salmon. Tender, juicy and filled with goodness. I'm really picky about seafood, but this place has surpassed my expectations every time. I highly recommend this place! more

I already wrote out a review on the other page for this place, but I loved it, hope I'm not screwing things up, LOL more

Amazing 1/26/2011

Try the Live bay scallops, I will just say that off the bat. Other than that, it has a nice quiet atmosphere, this is no sports bar. Worth the visit. more

Call this, NEW Gladstones. 1/25/2011

Gladstones recently went with a more upscale look and I really enjoyed it. It now seems less like a casual beach place and more like a envisioned Malibu spot. The new menu is much more diverse now. I would give it a try even if you were a fan of the older Gladstones. more

HORRIBLE, FAKE, SNOOTY AND A COMPLETE RIP OFF. 10/13/2010

OK, I've been coming to Gladstones in the Palisades for years now and have always enjoyed bringing guests from out of town, visiting on holidays or just grabbing a few drinks with friends. NEVER WILL I DO THIS AGAIN. It seems that the lack luster imbeciles at SBE (Sam Nazarian) decided to take over this iconic classic and turn it into a heartless McRestaurant. Gone are the days of simple treasures such as a barrel of peanuts at the door, old fashioned and nautical inspired textures and decors, comfy booths, vintage art, photography, memories, awesome prices and variety. Sam Nazarian truly failed here. He took what should of been an historic, rich and classic venue and turned it into a sudo-Vegas-Disneyworld-food court. The food is terrible, (much worse than it was before) way over priced, limited and downsized. The drinks went up about 50% in price and did I mention no more peanuts. It looks like I'll have to go to Duke's up the street from now on. more

Save Your Money, It's not Gladstones Any More 9/6/2010

I have been coming to Gladstones for over 25 yeas, this place has always been one of my most favorite restaurants. NOT ANY MORE! The re-model is nice, but all the old photos of Malibu and the area are gone. The great old menu is half the size and full of small not so good dishes. The service was fair, we had 7 in our party and they only brought us one bread. I had to ask for more, they did not offer. The new pricing is way more than anyone should pay for that kind of food. Like most of the other reviews for this place the customer experience sucks! Bottom line:  The food is not very good, and way over priced. I will miss the old Gladsones, and will never go back to the new one. They really should change the name, as it is not the classic Malibu Gladstones any more. The new owners and management should learn in today's social Internet world, customers have the last word on your business. You should start to listen to them, they are letting you know you have a big problem. The smart thing would be to have one of the other seafood restaurants on PCH hire the old staff and management, I would be there in a heart beat! more

Yuck 9/4/2010

I wanted to go for my Birthday. I had been many times in the past, but has new owners! I wanted a crab Louie salad or something like that, they had nothing like that. I wound up with swordfish, which was supposed to be veggies and rice, it was served with risotto and minced veggies, but could not get over that they had no peanuts (remember the peanuts in the barrels??) and no crab or shrimp salads! The drinks...I had a watermelon Mojito...i don't think it had any liqour at all and it was $14!! She asked if I wanted another and I did not hesitate to say NO. So dissapointed for my birthday. And they have you for the valet parking because there is nowhere else to park!!! more

A Night to Remember 8/16/2010

Not sure about the other reviews, but I can say this: Best clam chowder of my life. Creamy and delicious. I am from New England and was raised on clam chowder, and I have no memory of clam chowder ever tasting this good. It was as if I went to heaven. Tuna with Goat Cheese - ok, the waiter told me to take a photo of myself, so I would always remember what I looked like before I ate their tuna because it was life-changing. Of course I am a tuna man and also a goat cheese man, so I had to give it a try. MY LIFE HAS CHANGED! I have never had a better piece of tuna and the goat cheese sauce was incredible. I had no idea these flavors went so well together. I cannot imagine a better tuna experience period. Bottom line, the food was great, the service could not have been better, the views could not have been better (you are right on the beach - I could take my salt shaker and throw it into the ocean water, we were so close...) -- big crowds but got seated right away. Not a bad seat in the house. It's funny too because I wrote this place off as a tourist trap, but with SBE running the show, this place is among my favorite restaurants not just in the LA area but of all time and places. One for the record books. You cannot miss and don't think twice about it -- this is a no-brainer in all regards. more

Horrible and... Horrible 7/6/2010

First off, my girlfriend and I live in Malibu and have been to numerous local restaurants and never had anything bad to say about any of them and certainly nothing to write a review on the internet about.. until now. We pulled into Gladstone's and had to pay $5 to self park in their parking lot. Then upon entering the restaurant we were "greeted" by a less than enthusiastic hostess who reluctantly walked us to our table. They have a great view if you sit at the window, otherwise you're S.O.L. After sitting for a couple minutes the server came to our table and gave us his spiel for what seemed like 15 minutes. My girlfriend ordered a $12 glass of wine and I ordered a high end tequila on the rocks with a side of lime. Both of which were delivered to our table several minutes later in cheap PLASTIC glasses and with no lime in my tequila. We ordered what our server recommended and after looking at the prices we had high expectations. Our appetizer came on a plate with newspaper lining. My seared Ahi came in a bowl. That's right a BOWL. My girlfriend's dish was the "Catch of the Day" and the fish was overwhelmingly fishy and slightly over cooked. We ate a few bites but then decided to ask for the check and take off. The bill was $120 for flat bread, 2 fish dishes, and 2 cocktails in plastic glasses. OUTRAGEOUS! Never will we ever be seen at Gladstone's again. Both my girlfriend and I have worked in restaurants for numerous years and have never complained about dining in one, but we were so disappointed in the atmosphere, food quality, service, and over pricing that we had to vent. Do yourself a favor and stay away, go to taco bell which is across the street. You can thank us later. Pros: View, Cool Bathrooms Cons: Everything else more

Gladstone's not what it used to be 4/12/2010

Went to have a nice Lobster dinner like me and my husband like to do quite often. My husband ordered Australian Lobster Tail ( The most expensive you can order) Is it had no taste to it at all. I had the maine lobster tail no taste to at all... We both did not eat even half of our lobster tails. The baked potatoes tasted like they had been sitting all day. Even the normally delicious bread was not good. After arguing with the server and one of the co-owners of the restaurant they credited our meal. I have since learned that they are under new ownership.. this explains the dramatic change in one of former favorite places to have seafood. Such a shame.. we haven't been back. Pros: The Location Cons: Food was old, Lobster was terrible... more

Worst of the worst 1/25/2010

I have never stiffed a waitress in my life, but this was a first. After being ignored for at least 20 minutes, I ordered a salad. I had originally ordered lobster, but after a tantalizing description, the waitress (and her waiter in training) informed me that they had no lobster. OK, I awaited my salad and after at least 1/2 hour was presented with a "tower." The seafood was stale and stinky and I should have insisted they take it back. It turned out to be $140. but by the time the check arrived I was thankful just to be able to leave. YIKES... I dine out 5/7 days a week and this was the worst of the decade. Oh, but they comped the Clam Chowder since the manager was so sorry they didn't have the lobster I ordered. OMG.... I used to go there all the time. NEVER again, nor will any of the folks I know,,, Whew. Never done a review like this before, but the worst is the worst. Pros: View Cons: Service more

AWFUL food and awful prices to match 9/8/2009

The location is the only thing going for this overrated place. After waiting for 10 minutes just to have someone stop by to greet us and take a drink order I went to the restroom which was beyond filthy. That should of been my cue to leave but I didn't. The food was horrendous and everyone at our table was beyond disappointed. What was equally annoying was the ridiculously high prices for food that you would expect at the zoo or a theme park. Awful! Awful! Awful! Pros: View of the ocean Cons: The food more
