Exquisite food. 7/16/2005

I truly respect and appreciate the fine dining at Giorgios. The blending of flavors are exquisite. I literally hold each bite in my mouth to fully enjoy this remarkable culinary experience. I have never felt rushed and I appreciate the attention received from both the staff and its proprietor. There is an understated elegance to the decor which creates a relaxed feeling. I highly recommend Giorgios. more

I have been a long term customer and fan of Giorgio's. I truly believe that this is clearly on of Portland's finest restaurants. Chef Peter Shue is fabulous and his work at Per Se in NYC comes shining through. He is creative and his prepartions are very well thought out and presented. This is small, intimate setting that allows all to enjoy the entire experience. Those who may not be fans have not been here in many mant years and their commnets are wildly outdated. Visit Giorgios, you will come back and thank me for pusing you along!! more

Rude service by owner! 1/9/2005

I live in the Pearl and I joined my brother and sister-in-law for dinner at Giorgios. We were perfect customers. We had cocktails and hor's deurves; salads; entrees; a nicer bottle of wine; dessert and coffee. Our two hour dining experience went just fine. But as we were finishing dessert and coffee the owner presented the check and said ""I HAVE TO ASK YOU TO LEAVE NOW BECAUSE I NEED YOUR TABLE FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE WAITING."" I couldn't believe such rudeness after dropping close to $200 plus tip. If only he had politely explained his dilemma and invited us to the bar for a departing cordial I would have been more understanding. I felt absolutely insulted by this arrogant jerk's flip attitude after having been a ""perfect"" customer. I will never return. Ever. This guy needs to learn the most basic rules of customer service. Pros: Good food, Okay service Cons: , Worst experience ever more

Dreamy Christmas Eve 12/27/2004

Open for the first time on Christmas Eve, Giorgio's was a classy experience. Service was excellent, in spite of the fact that the tables were all filled soon after 5:30. Simple elegance...and excellent food. We had 5 appetizers, 3 entrees--lamb, duck, and bass, 2 desserts....and two bottles of wine. A dream of an evening. Pros: atmosphere, service, food selection more

THE WORST 12/23/2004

This is my worst dining experience in Portland. After waiting almost 2 hours, with no food in sight, I walked out. The manager I spoke with was extremely rude and offered no apologies for the dismal experience. Worst customer service I have endured in decades. more

First Class All the Way 12/15/2004

What a fantastic restaurant! The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely as good as it gets -- not pretentious, but special and very satisfying. I'm not much of a dessert eater, but I was blown away by the chocolate torte. My strongest recommendation for a great weekday meal, or a place to go for the most special of occasions. I'll be back! Pros: food, service, decor more

Beautiful food... 8/21/2004

Went there a few weeks ago with some friends. Not quite Italian perhaps, but beautifully executed and presented inf French style! Fish was fresh and lively, the meats delicate, noodles somewhat unable to stand up to their sauce - but they were nice and delicate. Service was proper and informative, seating prompt in the somewhat small dining room. We didn't care much for the decor but we were all comfortably sit. If it were less expensive, we'd go more often. Pros: quality, wine list, service Cons: , decor more

Molto Molto!! 5/7/2004

The warm yellows of the walls and gracious smiles of the servers at Giorgio's made a wonderful welcome into a quaint yet upscale dining area as we were promptly seated by the host. The fare is not for the very finicky as non-traditional meats such as buffalo and guinea hen speckled the menu. The skatefish was flaky and cooked to tender perfection. Their chive gnocchi lightly tossed in a creme fraiche sauce drizzled with truffle oil left my palate wanting more, despite my incessant reach for their surprisingly tasty, yet airy bread. Their panna cotta washed any hunger away with its creamy and delicate texture, perfectly balanced with the rasberries laced within. Although pricier than many places, Giorgio's makes splurging on your tastebuds unforgettable. Pros: Friendly service, Excellent food, Intimate atomsphere Cons: , Smaller portions more

Restaurant heaven 3/13/2004

I don't understand why this place is not mobbed every night. I haven't eaten in every restaurant in town, Giogio's blows away the more well-known places with food that is sophisticated but not fussy or complicated. From the lentil salad to the hand-made pasta to the lamb, the flavors are just on another level from anyplace else in Portland. The wait staff is pleasant but varies somewhat in competence; some servers seem to lack confidence, but the more experienced are everything that you want in a server; knowledgeable about the dishes without being pompous or overbearing. I've lived all over the US and eaten in my share of overrated, overpriced restaurants. To me, Giogrio's is simply the perfect restaurant. Pros: Food, Food , Food more

Short-handed Superiority 7/24/2003

For such an extremely small--and young--kitchen staff, Giorgio's is a top-notch restaurante. Excellent food that is meticulously prepared makes for a dinner to enjoy and remember. more

Nice 12/29/2002

Giogio's is a oasis in the midst of all the high-brow restaurants in the Pearl District. Been there 3 times and Giogio (the owner) greets everyone and remembers them. The bar is well run and the food is excellent. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. Giogio works the floor and helps out where needed. He does not stand around. I highly recommend the place. Pros: food, service, bar Cons: small more

Good food always 10/26/2002

I've eaten at lunch several times and find the menu and the food really great. Very tasty and always fresh and well prepared. Great service. Lovely light and airy atmosphere on gloomy grey days. We thoroughly enjoy our meals. Not your ordinary pasta and red sauce. more

Coming home Italian style 10/8/2002

Wonderful first time experience at Giorgios. It was my good friends 30th B'day and the meal and service could not have been better. Just the right amount of food!! Waiter was dead on with the wine selection, delicious with the meal. Not recommended for the cheap, all-you-can-eat crowd, stick to Red Lobster. This food is and tastes homemade, nothing out of the can. Expect to be dazzled! Pros: Intimate feel, No kids, No smoking more

highway robbery 8/6/2002

Way overpriced, and even called back to see if it was maybe a mistake. I asked the owner about it and he was flip and rude. Maybe that is why it is always emty, no? Pros: clean Cons: price more

It's All About The Experience 8/2/2002

As someone who travels as part of my career, I am fortunate to dine in some very amazing places. Giorgio's is one of those places. This is not simply a place to eat, but a place to experience. The menu is both innovative and addicting - I dream about their denver-cut veal medallions (fall/winter menu). The staff is courteous and well-informed about all aspects of the menu including preparation and content. Most important though is the ever-present owner Giorgio Kawas. Each time I visit he greats me by name and makes a point to stop by the table at least twice during my stay. Giorgio's has an hand-selected wine list fit for all budgets. Dining at Giogio's makes everyday a special one! more
