I don't understand why this place is not mobbed every night. I haven't eaten in every restaurant in town, Giogio's blows away the more well-known places with food that is sophisticated but not fussy or complicated. From the lentil salad to the hand-made pasta to the lamb, the flavors are just on another level from anyplace else in Portland.
The wait staff is pleasant but varies somewhat in competence; some servers seem to lack confidence, but the more experienced are everything that you want in a server; knowledgeable about the dishes without being pompous or overbearing.
I've lived all over the US and eaten in my share of overrated, overpriced restaurants. To me, Giogrio's is simply the perfect restaurant.
