One of the most consistent Philly dining experiences...reassonably priced in spite of a special occasions place.....we love it...every aspect and are very picky Pros: reputation Cons: mistakes make at reservation desk more

Not particularly impressive French cuisine 4/20/2008

God, where to start? I'd been hearing nothing but good things about this restaurant for quite some time. I went to eat there with my wife and parents, and all four of us were not impressed by the food whatsoever! Much of the food was either under- or over-cooked, the service poor, and the atmosphere of the restaurant absolutely horrible! Not only that, but the foie gras served was some of the worst I've ever tasted in my life! Do yourself a favor, and avoid this pathetic excuse for a French restaurant at all costs! Cons: It's out in the middle of nowhere and the food is nothing special more

Best byob in Chester County 9/14/2007

Much better then The Orchard and 1/2 the price. The Chef is much more talented and it shows in taste and presentation. The front of the house is very organized and management knows what it's doing. Pros: Food and service more

. The restaurant, although has so much potential leaves much to be desired. 8/13/2007

I visited Gilmore's for the second time yesterday for the ""Foie Gras Extravaganza!"" dinner. The dinner left much to be desired. All but one course had either not enough or an overpowering amount of foie gras on the plate. The only course which had a good balance was the lobster course and there, the lobster was slightly overcooked for me and very overcooked for my dinner date. The dinner felt a bit rushed, even though there was only one seating. The wait staff inquired repeatedly whether the offerings were delicious; it is a bit difficult to state that no, its not very good when seated 3 feet away from other patrons. Lastly, the desert came out far too soon even though the wait staff was able to see that we were not ready and were not done with our coffee. The restaurant, although has so much potential leaves much to be desired. more

Wonderful French Food, Charming Atmosphere 12/21/2006

I've been to Gilmore's on several occasions and have yet to be disappointed. I usually order the crab cake as it has become my favoirte thing on the menu, but I'd also recommend the filet and the lobster. I've also found the atmosphere and the service to be charming. The waiters have always been so helpful when I've had to make a tough decision between my old standys and something new. Worth the drive (takes me a little over an hour to get there) and worth the money (which I find to be relatively inexpensive compared to so many other ""fancy"" places that disappoint). Pros: Food, Appetizers, Service Cons: No parking, though there is a deck around the corner more

A Big Let Down 2/13/2006

We planned our Valentines dinner at Gilmore's with high expectations. We left unfullfilled. I love French cuisine. At Gilmore's the presentation of the food was nice, but the flavor was non-existent. The service was inconsistent and instead of finding the ambiance romantic, we felt crowded and uncomfortable. As a disabled person, I was disheartened to find that Gilmore's is far from handicap accesible. Although I can do stairs with no trouble, the configuration of tables made it impossible for me to use the restroom with a walker. Completely unacceptable. Pros: Price, Service? Cons: Food, Ambiance, Accesibility more

Have dinner, skip dessert 10/1/2005

The appetizers were amazing - cornbreaded shrimp with 3 sauces was delightful. My friends loved everything they had too. Lobster dinner was sumptuous, as was the lamb. Pheasant with risotto was slightly underwhelming. The servers darted around, loudly reciting the menus robots, then disappeared when you needed them. Desserts are bizarre! Chocolate mousse in a ""candy apple"" looks like something plastic from the 99-cent store, an architectural peach thing that tasted good, but so pretentious. Raspberry sorbet that was just inedible! Very strong/off taste weird texture. A woman next to us ordered lemongrass and sage creme brulee, which she returned, calling it ""hostile""! The staff was insulted, but we had to agree. No one offered us more coffee when our dessert arrived, then the bill was slammed on the table out of nowhere. Enjoy dinner, then stroll through the pretty town & have dessert elsewhere. Pros: Tasty appetizers, Sumptuous dinner, BYOB Cons: Crowded, Rushed, Desserts a let-down more

I thought to food had the best of flair and flavor. Accompanied with a favored wine and personal suggestion from Richard, it is hard to find a better harmony. Go soup to nuts or don't go at all. I plan to spend many more evenings giving Peter my patronage. To Health and fantastic flavors. Pros: Contagious, mouthwatering, memorable more

Whats it all About? 1/2/2004

Been to the b est of the best and don't understand all the hype. The Chef and his wife are charming...the food is okay...yep okay... there is no cutting edge and that goes for the atmosphere also.. Service did not live up to the expectations and I guess after all we read ...we expected something more for the long drive. more

Happy Gilmore (getting there) 1/24/2003

Peter Gilmore's restaurant reminds me of a place that just opened. Overall, the food is excellent but it's some of the little things that need work. First, the portions are inconsistent. In the traditional French style, they should be small. The wait staff is inconsistent as well. Some are knowledgeable, attentive and polite. Others are inattentive and brash. Also, the lighting and music selection could be toned down to create a better ambiance. Although it can be difficult getting a reservation, being a BYOB makes this restaurant attractive. One of waiters has a keen eye for good wine and supplies the appropriate glasses. The decor is tastefully done. Overall, Gilmore's has a great foundation with alot of potential. I'll try it again in a few months to see if there is any improvement. more

Skip the appetizer and salad 10/22/2002

While I have no complaints with the service the food left something to be desired. The entree was masterful but the ""intermezzo"" (?) salad was blech, the appetizer felt straight out of some average Asian fusion place and the dessert was so so. Check Siri's Thai for desserts that are way above so so and compare with this place. To be fair I must say that in order to give the restaurant its due it has to be visited at least two or three times and I've only been there once. Nevertheless the difference between great and above average restaurants is that the former are consistently great whereas the latter's performance varies. The appetizer and dessert I had fall into the latter category. I had no trouble getting reservations for a weekday night with a few days notice. more
