I have been a member of this institution for about 14 years and I must say a few of these reviews that talk about a complete failure in the area of customer service are spot on. It isn't everyone at they bank but as a collective whole the member service representatives are just downright rude, they have no concept of what customer service is and seem to be agitated with members and there jobs. To be clear I am not some dead beat that over drafts his account and is constantly in the office asking for a refund of fees.I am a financially stable working adult and I know how important customer service is.It has to be a failure in management because some of these people have been there for years.I pulled my earnings away from this bank a long time ago and would suggest people take their money elsewhere. more

Please do yourself a favor and find a different Credit Union or Bank 9/14/2012

Do you know that if you opt in for courtesy pay, they will allow you to continue to overdraw your account multiple times and charge you a $25 fee every single time?? Well, I'm here to tell you that this is exactly what they do. Even if you've been a good customer and this is the first time it's ever happened, when you try to talk to someone to see if they'll help you out, they turn a deaf ear. The bank will allow you to rack up all kinds of fees and not notify you until it's past $500 or so in fees. Rude, unhelpful, arrogant, horrible customer service. Please do yourself a favor and go bank somewhere else. more

Go elsewhere - you won't matter to them 9/22/2010

If you like not being called back, getting the run around and no answers, this is the place for you! Otherwise...\r \r Made an application to renew my membership. They stated I would need to pay a fee from a previous loan - one that no one had EVER contacted me about, but they needed to research it first. I had to initiate all calls for updates. After 10 days, they finally told me I would have to come in to one of their branches to speak to someone. They were not able to explain how speaking to someone in person was of more benefit than speaking to them over the phone - other than wasting my gas and time. more

I wouldn't recommend .....sorry 3/29/2010

Fed Up 4/3/2008

Avoid this business like the plague. This facility is poorly run and they have no idea what customer service is. Expect to see more people leaving GCS soon. more

Founded in 1941 as a source of loans and basic savings products, GCS Federal Credit Union has always focused on the member. Through the years, that philosophy has served us well, helping us grow from a single office into the area's #1 financial institution with seven full-service locations and plans to continue to grow.

Today, we serve more than 40,000 members throughout Madison and most of St. Clair Counties. Within these areas, we remain a leader in member services as well as innovative technology to deliver new products and services to you in a timely manner.

In addition to our seven branches, we also offer numerous ATM locations throughout the area, a telephone audio response system that offers account access 24 hours a day, as well as PCU (Personal Credit Union) our Home Banking system that offers members the opportunity to conduct business and pay bills from any computer at any time.

With assets of more than $250 million we feel we can offer customized financial services to meet your ever-changing needs. We also feel our innovative approach to building and maintaining member relationships will convince you, your family, and your friends that we are the area's #1 financial institution.

A credit union is much more than you expected!

Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned, democratically controlled financial cooperatives - that is, they are mutual organizations operated entirely by and for their members. Once you deposit money in a credit union, you become a member, not just a customer, because your deposit is considered your share of the ownership in the credit union.

Historically, credit unions offered only savings accounts and consumer loans. Many have expanded their services, particularly the larger credit unions, during the past few decades in response to their members' changing - and more sophisticated - financial needs. Some credit unions offer credit cards, debit cards, checking accounts, IRAs and share certificates. Credit unions also are expanding the types of loans they offer. Many offer mortgages, home equity loans, student loans and small-business loans to members. Credit unions may look like banks in that they both offer financial products and services to consumers. But that's where the similarities end and the differences begin.

As cooperative organizations, credit unions exist solely to meet their members' financial needs, not to make a profit off of them. In fact, after expenses are paid and reserves are set aside, credit unions return their profits to members in the forms of lower loan rates, higher savings rates and free or low-cost services. That's why consumers typically get better rates at credit unions. For-profit financial institutions, on the other hand, exist to generate profits for a relatively small group of stockholders at the expense of their customers
