If you loose something in one of these cab

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/14/2013

I am absolutely disgusted with how I was treated by this company. I was called a cab by the front desk at my work site and told them I would be using a credit card. When the cab arrived I was given attitude about using my card, but then told to get in. I was scared for my life during the drive for the 15 miles, but the real issue was trying to pay. In 2013, the company uses a carbon copy device to get your number and gave me an attitude about me not having the ""right kind of card"". THEN, he insisted that I needed to write my license number on the paper. I respectfully told him that I did not feel comfortable writing that information down (that I barely felt comfortable with them keeping my credit card number, exp date, security code and zip code) and was told to call the company. While still in the cab, I called the company head quarters and spoke to a man named Joe. I was immediately told I was a rude person and that I was going to have the cops called on me for refusing to pay my fare. I tried to explain that I had no problem paying my fare, but I did not feel comfortable with that much of my information given to a man who I did not know or a company I did not trust. He would not let me explain myself and told me that ""he didn't want customer's like me anyways"" when I said I would never use this company again. His reasoning for needing my license number was that ""they check your license in stores and it is the same thing"" to which I said that I would gladly show my license, but I didn't want to write the number down. I am completely appalled with this ""service"" and will be telling the company I was working at and the hotel I'm staying at to never use this unprofessional and abusive taxi service again.\r more

Use only if you have a serious death wish and want to be ripped off.\r I have used this service (even tho I read the reviews) because the one I called first didn't had a van and I needed more space than a normal car. I used it again because it was the first in row at the airport.\r The cars they ride are total wrecks and shouldn't be on the road. The driving is is terrible and you should be prepared to endure some nerve wrecking dangerous situations. I doubt a driver license is a requirement to work for this company.\r When picked up from the airport, I assumed the driver did not realize we knew the way. He took us the wrong direction after clearly telling him where to go. Not just a wrong turn, but heading North instead of South. After that, I guided him turn by turn, so he couldn't try this again.\r On a busy intersection, he couldn't stand there were two cars in front of him before turning left, so he started honking like a madman and eventual passed those cars on the wrong side of the road. He endangered us, the other cars turning left and the cars coming from the opposite direction.\r To end this trip, he refused payment by credit card and demanded cash. As i never have cash on me (and he didn't mention his payment options when picking us up at the airport), we ended arguing on this. He demanded that I should go to an ATM and that we should pay his waiting fare.\r Please avoid this company as they have a lousy service, lousy telephone response, are late when reserved a day in time and for a 5 AM pickup, have no respect for the items your are carrying, endangering you and your loved ones, take deliberate wrong turns, drive in wrecks, drivers are rude, etc...\r I have had better service in third world countries, with better and friendly drivers and without the ripoff.\r Friendly Checker Taxi should be out of business as soon as possible to create safer traffic. more

BEWARE!!! Thieves and Mgmt does nothing about it! They say they are insured when in fact the dispatchers themselves will tell you there is nothing they can do about the drivers and they have problems all the time with the drivers stealing customers belongings :( The Westin Diplomat was able to pull security tapes to show us getting into the Friendly Checker for a ride to the Airport. The tape showed the driver and showed my husband's $500.00 coat being placed in the front seat -- however, my husband was at the trunk and I was not yet at the cab. We didn't realize we didn't have it at the airport until the cab pulled off and we called immediately only to learn that the cabbie wouldn't own up to having the wool coat and the Friendly Checker Taxi service assumed no responsibility. You do have the right to deny a cab. Ask for the next one -- avoid FRIENDLY CHECKER TAXI at all cost! It will be in your best interest. more

Great service and knowledge of area!!! 10/18/2011

My family and I arrived from Windsor Ontario for a vacation in Ft. Lauderdale. When we arrived a the airport we were put in a blue and white taxi called Friendly Checker Taxi. We were staying at The Westin Diplomat Hotel and asked our driver to take us there. The driver was very friendly and knowledgable about the area we were staying in. He even told us what the taxi fare should be when we got to the hotel and to make sure it is around the same price when we return to the airport. He recommended some great resturants in the area and attractions for the kids. This driver was a great ambassador for Ft. Lauderdale. We took other Friendly Checker Taxi's while on our vacation and the service was very good. The service was so much better than that of big city cabs such as New York or Philadelphia. more

Quick, reliable service 10/17/2011

My car broke down and was out of service for a week. When I called friendly checker they were very quick to pick me up. I used the company all week and thought the drivers were nice and professional. I will use them again. more

I arrived to the air port. I wanted to go to my place of employment, 2/5 miles away. As is customary I went to the taxi first in line #594. It was a checker taxi. I put my bag in the trunk, went in and when the driver asked me where I was going and found that it was only 2 1/2 miles away he started to complain and complain and complain. I told him that if he did not want to take me to eave me I would take the next.. He finally took me but was complaining all the way. When I arrived the miter read 8.90. Because of his complains I only hand him 10 dollars. He demanded 12.00 and said it was the minimum price for a trip. I told him he did not deserved one penny of tip for his complains and he insisted and demanded 12.00 dollars. Finally I said yes but he had to sign a receipt which he did. DO NOT USE CHECKERS TAXI, ASKED FIRST WHAT COMPANY THIS IS. more

Poor Service Experience 11/10/2008

When we returned to Ft Lauderdale following a cruise, we used a taxi to the Doubletree Galleria on East Sunrise Blvd. Cab #616. We had mapquested the route from the port to the hotel and knew the approximate time and distance (figuring 15 minutes). This cab driver took us inland (avoiding the simple route north on Hwy 1) to the turnpikes in a circular route that consume 35 minutes and cost $40. Another cruise associate was in the cab next to ours and had the same costly experience. The next morning, we took a taxi to the airport, straight down Hwy 1 for 20 minutes and $22. As the VP of Marketing for an electronics company in the Northwest, I have instructed my sales team to avoid using this taxi company. Given the importance of tourism to Ft Lauderdale, such a taxi experience does not make for goodwill. more
