Worst

Time to clean up and redecorate. Dirty. Pizza crust like cardboard. Had better pizza at Little Caesar's. Service slow.

Editorial review from Citysearch 4/10/2014

Gone downhill. Large pizza, little pizza in a large box. Last two times in the past two weeks. I guess customers are no longer important since business is so good... Or is it? Definitely my last visit. more

I agree with the poor service. We visited Frank's a number of years ago, and it seems if you are not part of the ""usual"" crowd - you are more or less dismissed. I wanted to purchase a pasta dish (can't remember which one) and asked to have meatballs on the side. The ""old"" lady told me I couldn't have them with that dish. I told her I would pay extra for them - nope - wouldn't allow it. Felt like I was on Seinfeld with the Soup Natzie. Then we waited forever for our meal - easily an hour. Waitress never came to refill drinks. We ordered a pizza to go early in the meal order process - and we literally waited another hour AFTER we had finally gotten our meal to get the to go pizza. I am trying this place once more tonight - we will see how it goes. more

Gets an average rating because the food 5/19/2012

Gets an average rating because the food is really good. As for the quality of service and friendless of the owner let's just say they are challenged. Warning they only take cash - no credit or debit cards. more

My Birthday 5/10/2012

Last nite my husband took me out for my birthday, when we pulled up in the back of the pizzeria they were 5 employees hanging out. We thought they were not busy, once inside we had to wait for 15 minutes for a seat. Order dinner right away, drinks came, salad came then 1 hour later pizza. Our server told us that the owners only turn on 2 oven during the week that only holds 5 pizza. Carry outs were going out the door.Been coming to this pizzeria for years. Now there off the list, what a shame for a family business to go down hill. BYE FRANKS........ more

Worst Wyandotte restaurant 5/29/2011

My family and I just wasted two hours of our life we can never get back. Our pizza order was misplaced and after 1 hour of waiting, we asked why so long ? The waitress told us what happened and that they would take 50% of the pizza. All of our drinks now empty and the waitress was not coming back to the table. Finally this greasy poor made pizza looking thing came out. We asked for paper napkins so we could try and eat this mess and the waitress again forgot about us. Finally the bill came and the waitress said we now need to talk to the owner, everything was explained and she (the owner) would take care of us. We went to the counter to pay and the owner told us the full price of the bill, I said the waitress said you would take care of part of the bill, without looking up the owner said $2 off that is it. When I asked what happen to the 50% off the owner said I don't care if I loss one customer I have lots more. WoW!!!! Never ever again will I visit this local pizza joint more

Awesome Pizza 1/6/2011

My wife and I tried Frank?s earlier this week and were very pleased with the food and service. Frank?s is a small family owned restaurant that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere. I would highly recommend Frank?s to anyone interested in trying a pizza that far exceeds the quality and taste of other pizza chains in the downriver area. Pros: Pizza, Homemade Italian Sausage, small nickel sized Pepperoni, Crispy Crust, Light Pizza Sauce Cons: none more

Screwed at franks 12/29/2010

Maybe one of the best pizzas....period 12/10/2010

Franks is my favorite pizza of all time. I started going there as a kid with the family. That was in the early 80's, I'm now 35. I was born and raised downriver and after some travels I now live in KC. Still, every time I go home I need a Franks Pizza. I have yet to find a pizza of this style - crisp crust, slight grease, enough cheese but not overflowing...and most importantly their pepperoni. I also have not found a pepperoni like it. It is small in terms of diameter, but thicker than what you get from a typical chain pizzeria. And yes, as you've seen in other reviews, it crisps and curls around the edges. I know what you might be thinking: you think so highly of it because of nostalgia. Sorry, that's not the case. I am a true pizza lover. I'm the guy that says that I would choose pizza as my only sustenance if I were somehow stranded on a deserted island. As I said, I had some travels; I had the good fortune to live in a true pizza town for the better part of my 20?s, Chicago. Yes, there is ""Chicago Style"" pizza, which is less defined that you'd think, but Chicago appreciates thick to thin. Even a little New York style (I'm thinking late night Lincoln Park Pizza by the slice). BTW, if you're ever in Chicago, Pequad's Pizza has one of the best - it's more a deep dish than a traditional Chicago style. But I digress. My point is simply that I love me some pizza and Franks rocks! What spurred me to even right this are the few negative reviews I saw. One stated uncleanliness, even rats. I've never had that experience. Is the place overall tired, yes, but that's what happens when you've been in business as a mom and pop for over 40 YEARS!!! (Also BTW, I own two unrelated restaurants in KC so I fully understand it doesn't have to get tired, I wouldn't let mine, but lots do and still cook some mean food.) Someone else cited a lack of parking as a reason not to go? I've been to many a fantastic restaurant that was hard to find parking around. Or waiting an hour? Yes, that stinks but sometimes happens what a product is so good that the place is overflowing. I might mention that the famous original Uno's Pizzeria takes your order while you wait in line to get a table because it takes so long due to the volume of business (yes, I know, thick crust takes longer to bake and it helps turn table faster, but if they didn't volume would make them totally backed-up.). My point is this, if you?re in the area and want a great, maybe even the best, thinner (not thin) style pizza from a pizzeria that does gang-buster business for a reason, go to Franks. I can only hope once this generation of owners has moved on, that someone will take up the mantle and keep it true Franks for decades to come. more

greatest pizza- still 11/12/2010

i worked for franks restaiurant when i was in high school, back in 1971. pizza and pasta sauces were the best then.. got married, moved out of state. came back to dine at franks in 2000. the chairs were the same. but they were rickety. we hasd to switch to a booth for fear a chair would callapse . but the pizza and pasta sauces were just as great as they were in 1971. i'm planning to come to michigan for our 40th year high school reunion and we plan on going to franks. we like our pizzas greasy. it means they use the real cheeses, not like the chain pizzerias. we like the pepperoni to curl up when it bakes. that's the great quality stuff. i heard frank died. sorry to hear this. does anyone know if tony is still making the pizzas, and if veronica is still there helping him? i got a pizza from a place here in oklahoma city and the cheese wasso fake it couldn't melt when it was baked. that was the only time we got a pizza from that place. we have been out of michigan living since 1993. we haven't found any pizzeria whose pizzas are great, like franks. franks is still our favorite restaurant for pizza and pastas. the old waitress, sally, was mean to me when i worked there in 1971, and she was just as cold when we came to franks in 2000, while in michigan. the rickety chairs and the mean old waitress won't stop us from going to franks every time we come home to visit. we'll just get a booth. and a different waitress. frank's food is perfecto more

One of the best Downriver 7/2/2010

I've seen some reviews saying Franks is dirty, which is simply not true. The place has been there for over 40 years and is JAM PACKED with people every day of the week. Doesn't seem like a dirty disgusting place would be full of customers all day every day. I'm not a one time visitor to Franks, I go there with my family every week to get a pepperoni pizza. Moving on, Franks has the best crispy thin crust pizza Downriver bar none, and they use the small spicy pepperoni that curls up, it's hard to find that anywhere. The pizza is greasy but this is simply a product of using natural meats and cheeses, not that crap the chain pizza places use. If you like old school pizza with all natural ingredients, you want Franks. They are light on the pizza sauce which suits my tastes, and the sauce has a very natural flavor and is not overpowering. The only drawback is that Franks is always very busy, and if you dine in it will take you between 30 and 45 minutes most nights to get a pizza, but you can have a few cold ones while you wait. My insider tip: Franks is open until 9:30 during the week, so if you want to avoid the crowds I would suggest getting there at about 8:00. It is packed during the dinner hours between 5:00 and 8:00. I give 5 stars for the pizza itself, would give the entire place 4 1/2 stars because the wait time can be a bit long. Also, when I take my son we get a large pepperoni pizza with two sodas (free refills) for 13 bucks, can't beat that. Pros: THE CRUST + they use the small spicy pepperoni that curls up Cons: Wait time, usually very crowded inside during dinner hours. more

BEWARE 3/13/2010

The pizza was average, definetly not worth the wait (about an hour) and it was so greasy you don't need to order a drink. I seen 2 mice running along the wall and that was it for me. Eat at your own risk! Pros: light sauce Cons: mice more

save your money 3/13/2010

Dirty, dirty. Recently dined in and had a horrible experience. First off parking is ridiculous so good luck finding a spot. We sat for over an hour waiting for a large pepperoni pizza. The first bite I took had a green pepper, my wife found an onion on her slice. It was very greasy, which I do like, but the crust was like eating a cracker. As I went to the bathroom I seen a young man pick his nose and then continue to make a pizza w/o even wiping his finger. By the way the bathroom was disgusting. I ate here when I was younger and the quality definetly went downhill. SAVE YOUR MONEY and eat somewhere else. Pros: pepperoni Cons: everything else more

a 10 3/8/2010

If u like thin crust round pizza, this is the best.Good soup ,good pasta ,good prices, good service. What more could u ask 4 Pros: great everything Cons: no credit cards more

Not worth it 3/7/2010

The pizza used to be alot different. About 10 yrs ago they cheaped out on ingredients, changed the crust and the service went down the drain. Back when Frank was alive the quality was excellent then his kids took over and it all went downhill. Long wait time for carry-out (they tell you 45 min and you usually wait an hour in total). Very rude punk answers phone, kitchen is filthy and they reuse items other customers didn't use during their dinner. It used to be my favorite, now I get one about once or twice a year hoping for the taste I miss. I've been waiting almost a decade. Its such a shame that Franks kids and grandkids disrespected his name. Pros: Thin crust Cons: Service more

juicy pizza 11/19/2009
