The Theatre is Just So-So 5/26/2012

My boss had given me tickets to the ballet when I was in town. Not really my style but I decided to go anyway since the tickets were free and I didn’t have anything better to do with my time. The ballet was nice but the theatre wasn’t as great as I was expecting. I’m used to NY theatres where things are a little different. Concessions were basic, bathrooms were overcrowded and under stocked and the floors were in desperate need of a sweep or mop because my shoes kept sticking to the floor. Unfortunate because the décor inside is actually very nice. more

Tour Provider Needs to be Fired 12/23/2010

2-3 years ago I booked a private tour of the Fox for my family - 28 of us - and it was easy and pleasant. I tried to do the same for this year's holiday gathering of the family and I've nearly pulled my hair out. Getting someone to call you back is the least of the Preservation's problems. Getting a straight answer, much less a timely answer is impossible. The Fox needs to take over management of these tours. The Preservation group is obviously on its last leg. more

No Fox Tours for the Handicapped without lots of $$$$$ 10/18/2010

I see from another review that I'm not the only one going through hell to take a tour of the Fox. We were told that we'd have to arrange a privte tour because my brother cannot climb stairs (Mr. Shook of the Fox confirmed this). THIS STINKS. Because my brother cannot climb stairs we have to pay an additional fee for a tour. more

Fox Needs to do something about tours 10/15/2010

The Fox is wonderful. Our family has enjoyed many events there. We've taken friends and family on the guided tours. Recently we wanted to take our kids, visitors from out of town and their kids on a tour. It would have been easier to re-finance my home than it was to get information from the people who manage the tours. We decided to go to the History Center instead. more

Wow! I have only been here once, but am in love with the place. I saw CATS here a while back - and okay, yes, the show - ROCKED - of course. But the FOX itself is beautiful. Classy. Fun. Wonderful interior - and all the staff are friendly and helpful if you get lost (yeah I did). more

One of Atlanta's Finest Treasures 2/24/2010

Most Atlantan's know the story of this Yaarab Temple-cum-movie house-cum theatre that nearly bit the dust on more than one occasion. Now regarded as one of the premier performance arts theatres of its class, the Fabulous Fox hosts touring Broadway shows, legendary concerts, ballet, performance art, and even weddings and proms. Other Moorish-themed rooms within the great space, including the Egyptian Ballroom and the Grand Salon, host private events year round. The volunteer ushers couldn't be friendlier, and the non-profit organization brings in wonderful cultural events to our fair city. Make sure you arrive early to catch the ""Mighty Mo"" organ, and don't forget to look up to notice the twinkling stars above. Pros: Nearly Everything About it - A wonderful Date! Cons: Expensive Parking more

Incredible Evening 10/23/2009

I've been to many events at the Fabulous Fox and I can always count on a wonderful evening in a beautiful historic landmark that seems almost timeless. The Fox is definetly one of Atlanta's greatest treasures to be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come. Pros: very beautiful more

Beautiful Old Theatre 9/22/2009

Love seeing all of the shows that come to town here. They have really done a great job of mixing the old with the new here. The accutisics are great! Pros: Great Venue! more

Classy, Historical and Super-Cool 12/1/2008

The Fox is a true icon in Atlanta and is home to some of the best live performances anywhere. In the past year I've seen My Morning Jacket, Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Les Miserables and Chris Rock. The acoustics are absolutely killer and the architecture is stunning. more

5 stars for the theater, BUT Don't waste you money on River Dance 5/14/2008

The Fox theater is the most beautiful theater I have ever been in. We went to see river Dance on May 13th. The Dancers have great talent. but that's all the good I can say about the show. The scenery was?.... there was none . the orchestra? there was none, just people on a large band stand. The theme of the show was also very poor. The singers, although they had wonderful voices, made you feel like you were at a funeral, The whole First half of the show was boring to say the least. I have seen the original River Dance and there is no comparison. as i said The talent is there but the production stunk to high heaven. The music was so loud you couldn't even hear the tapping of the feet. We left after the first half finished. what a waste of our money. Pros: theater, Cons: Riverdance more

Beautiful theater, lousy acoustics 3/24/2008

The Fox is a must see venue in Atlanta in terms of historical significance but at 4,800 seats it is far too large for Broadway and the acoustics don't do any concert justice. Bear in mind it started life as a movie house. Newer venues in town such as the Cobb Energy Centre are giving Atlanta theater-goers a taste of what a real theater is meant to be. Pros: Architecture Cons: Acoustics & parking more

Bad Management, great venue. Allows latecomers AFTER live performance starts 3/4/2008

While venue is fantastic, its management isn't. I have been in two event's lately (both spectacular performers Aretha Franklin and Alvin Ailey Dance Company), sadly both performances started late. \r \r Even worst for seated live performance event and top theater venue in Atlanta, latecomers were allowed in AFTER show starts and throughout whole performance. Needles to say, I missed very beginning of 2 dancing acts in Alvin Ailey because of late comers that were allowed in and disturbed my view to the stage. During Aretha Franklin's concert it was even worst (it was also seated event, 85$ per ticket). I didn't have even 10 minutes clear view of stage due to late arrivals throughout whole concert. I contacted management and they are not planning to do anything about, mostly they were giving me excuses.\r \r Make an informed decision for the shows you want to see, and what kind of policy they have for late arrivals. If you don't mind people all the time lifting you and people in front of you up, this is the place for you. I have been at prime venues all around the world and have never seen that in live theater you would let people in. It is disrespectful to patrons of art that came on time, pay premium tickets and performers as well. more

Another World 10/16/2007

Going to the Fox is like escaping to a different time--it makes me feel like a character in the Great Gatsby where everything is large, ornate & beautiful! There is nothing like watching a show here--there is no other place like the Fox! The venue is just as beautiful as the performances & I get excited every time we go!!! We usually park at the hotel across the street! If you have never been, go extra early b.c if you are not familiar with parking, it can take a little while to figure things out! more

The ""Ultimate"" 1920's Movie Palace! Performing Arts And Special Events Also! 12/16/2006

Originally built by William Fox, for the Shriner's of Atlanta, but after the depression, became the ultimate movie palace. As a kid, Saturdays, were spent at The Fox, we had to have balcony seats, to watch the clouds float by. The Mighty Mo would play during intermissions, and real buttered popcorn. Check out the restrooms, Cleopatra, would be proud. Ma Bell almost took the Fox down during the '70's, but Atlanta's best citizen's banded together, to save the Fox. And we did. A major restoration project followed, with a digital Marquee, and the old girl was as good as new. Today occasional movies, but performing arts, and special events shine behind The Mighty Mo! Pros: The Only Place In The City For The Arts! An Atlanta Icon! Cons: n/a more

Beautiful theaters. 11/14/2006

It's a wonderful place to see a show. The theaters are goreous and staff are very helpful. It's a perfect place for a date. Very romantic. Clean. Parking can get tricky and kind of pricey. Drive around once to check out different prices before parking. Pros: Love it all. Thumbs up. Cons: Parking. more

Atlanta's Shining Shrine 10/4/2006

Without a doubt, Atlanta's most beloved building. All other reviews on this page are on the money. \r The first time I ever visited Atlanta, it was to come to town to go to Pretender's concert. One look at the lavish ladies room, and I knew I had to MOVE HERE! \r If you don't find some excuse - any excuse - to go to this cherished landmark, you're making a huge mistake. Taking out-of-town visitors on the tours is a great entertainment value - everyone loves it. Pros: Excellent accoustics [if the soundboard operator is doing his/her job.] Cons: Hard to watch the show for staring at the surroundings. more

Best Place In Atlanta 12/11/2003

I love the Fox. It is by far the best place in Atlanta to watch a show. And, it's a nice place for private parties. My junior prom was held in the Egytian Ball Room, and it was the most amazing place I had ever seen! Lots of space, and great accoustics, in the EBR and the main stage. If you can watch a show at the Fox, do it. You'll never forget it. I've watched five shows at the Fox and they were great! GO TO THE FOX! more

The Best Venue in Atlanta 7/1/2002

Definately check out the Fox Theatre if you can. The sound is usually impeccable and the atmosphere is a 10! I have seen everyone from REM to Oasis to 311 and many others. I have never seen a sbad show there except for 311...they should have fired their front of house engineer on the spot!!!! All drum and bass...ugh. Don't forget to gaze at the ceiling during the show...simply breathtaking! more

Atlanta's Best Landmark 5/14/2002

This is one of Atlantas finest offerings. If you havent been yet, make plans to do so. They offer tours, but another cheap way to get inside is to catch one of the movies during the summer film festival. Oh, bring a sweater. It can get cold in there. Pros: Stellar space, Quality performances Cons: Chilly inside more
