Our favorite dining in Nashville! This is our favorite restaurant for date night and before events at TPAC and the Schermerhorn. Menu selections are always fantastic and the wine ...

Very Impressed with Themselves 7/26/2007

The evening started off very nice. Great atmosphere and a glass of complimentary champagne. It went down hill from there. There was not one dish that had it all, meaning if one thing was good on the plate the other items were not. Two of us ordered the elk. It had good flavor, but it was raw (cold gelatinous all the way through). We did not say anything as the staff really do not want to hear what you have to say. We could not chew the last half of the elk. Several tried and were not sucessful. When I said something to the waiter after he cleared the table, he did not want to hear our opinion. Soon the souz chief came out visable angry. I said the elk was not cooked and she said"" her temperatures were dead on and this is how they cook meat in LA and New York and not they way we cook it in the South!"" For those of us that have traveled to those lovely places, when we have ordered our meat either medium to mediun rare it has come out cooked the way we had ordered the meat. After the unusually encounter the table did not want to order desert. We suggested to the waiter that the souz chief not come back out to talk again and we got more attitude. I said something to the person I thought was the owner and he apparently got a different story from the staff. He assured us the souz chief was a very nice person and she did not mean what she said. When we told him what she had said, he appeared to be in shock and wanted to know what he could do. At this point the damage had been done and his employee had insulted the entire table. In a town like Nashville you never know where your customers come from these days and a haughty attitude will not get you anywhere. It is unfortunate that it had to end that way b/c even though not everything was spectuaualar we would have made an effort to go again and to tell everyone we know. Not now and not ever again. They might want to adjust their attitude before they insult anyone else. Pros: Different types of food Cons: price and staff attitudes more

Top Restaurant in Nashville 7/13/2007

We've eaten at every top restaurant in Nashville on more than one occasion but this was our first time to visit Flyte on 8th Avenue. The building is easily overlooked being brick and cinder block painted a very dull orange. However, once inside, you?re somewhere else, definitely not Nashville. Everything about the inside is mood and ambiance which is funny given the structure but once seated; you realize how well put together it is. The lighting, the bar, the layout of the tables shows a thoughtful consideration to the experience. Now let?s talk wine and food. The menu takes you to other parts of the world and does it very easily and without the airport security hassles. The menu is put together well and does not overwhelm. The wine list is extensive and offers something for everyone. Our server, Scott had a wealth of knowledge on all aspects of our meal and made wonderful recommendations. Now, on to the unbelievable food. We had the buffalo chicken spring rolls which can be pretty basic. These were well put together but came with a side of blue cheese mousse that really set it up a bar. For salad, we chose the Flyte of 3 salads since it gives a smaller sampling of their 3 signature salads ? after the appetizer, this was more than enough to share for my wife and I. The combination of flavors and the artistry of how these were assembled is remarkable. First, that someone will take the time and second that anyone can make money at it. For entree, I chose the elk having read other reviews and my wife had the halibut. Again, a sense of artistry and awe at how it was put together and tasted so sublime. The dessert flight was a wonderful as well as with light, tastefully prepared trio (the chocolate cake was the best). Our server even provided a complimentary, Spanish dessert wine that only made the desserts all the more better. I am running out of room - if you haven't tried this place and you?re into nice restaurants, you have got to try this place! Pros: Knowledgeable Staff, Ambiance, Wine Selection Cons: Not in Franklin more

Flyte is a first class ticket to Awesomeville 7/6/2007

I have never before felt compelled to write a review on CitySearch, but when I saw the previous post on the elk being flavorless at Flyte, I decided to set the record straight. I have had the elk and it is far from flavorless; it is fabulous. The previous post also questions the validity of the relationship between wine selection and description, but I think Flyte, unlike other restaurants, has a wine list that gives people the courage to order something they are unfamiliar with and do it with confidence (and correct pronunciation thanks to the handy phonetic guide next to all non-English labels). The short rib alone is worth a visit. Seriously. If there were a place called Awesomeville, Flyte's cuisine would be on the menu. Cheers, Flyte. Don't let the elk basher get you down. Pros: Knowledgeable staff, cool vibe, great food more

Fly away from here 7/3/2007

I was anticipating Flyte after seeing its name pop up several times in All The Rage paper here. more

Great customer service 6/25/2007

My boyfriend took me here for an early birthday dinner and it was more than excellent. The food combinations Chef Bob came up with were exceptionally tasty---I'm normally a picky eater but I ate everything I tried! The waiter was friendly and his food and wine recommendations were great. Pick a seat in the kitchen...it's neat to watch how the kitchen staff works. Pros: ""Flyte"" options Cons: Parking more

Thank You Flyte 4/12/2007

This is the best place to dine in Nashville! Since moving here from California a few years ago, I have been missing great original food and wine. Nashville is the land of chain food! There are several other good places in town, but Flyte tops them all hands down. The food is beautiful, original, and affordable. The wine list is outstanding and very unique. Especially for Nashville. I have been to Flyte many times since their opening and the wait staff is always very friendly and very knowledgable about food and wine. This is a highly recommended restaurant to go and have a great meal and a great time. Pros: Great place to dine! Cons: Didn't open soon enough more

Loved it! 3/31/2007

We went last night for the first time and thought it was great. First off, great vibe! Can't really explain it, but it's comfortable and hip. I'm kind of a wine guy and I really liked their list. Lots of things I didn't recognize, but our waiter suggested a nice blend (Dunham?) from Washington and it rocked. I can't vouch for the antipasti that the last reviewer talked about cause we didn't do that, but out scallops and shortrib were excellent. We had the tuna and pork for our entrees and loved them both. Certainly up there with the best we've had in Nashville - if not the best. Service was what we like - there when we needed it and not falling all over us refilling the water every 10 seconds. Didn't have room for dessert, so I can't contribute on that. We did like the french press coffee though. Bill was reasonable for what we had...not cheap, but worth it. Pros: Cool vibe, great food, rocking wine list Cons: Need to work on the patio decor more

Avoid the appetizers! 3/31/2007

Top new restaurant? A friend and I recently went to flyte after hearing many good things about it. Walked in, the atmosphere was great. First , sat at the bar for a flyte of wines. My friend was given an average 2 oz pour on all his wines, and I was served by another bartender, consistant 1 1/2 oz. pours. I didn't say anything because I recognized a waiter there and didn't want to embarrass myself. Then, on to the appetizers. Thought it was a neat idea to fill in the card and choose idividual items (like a sush bar). Until, they arrived. One of the items we ordered was bruchetta. I surely didn't think it would be much since we only paid $4.00 per order (we got 2), and that would have been fine if we actually got bruchetta. We each received a scoop of diced tomatoes (don't think there was anything else in it) and burned white toast on the side. I guarantee this was not foccoccia bread like they claimed. This was WHITE TOAST! Nonetheless, I topped by toast with tomatoes, and watched them fly off the toast everytime I bit into this chewy white toast (maybe this is why they call it flyte). We ordered several cheeses to put on the white toast. Very small portions, but the cheese was fine. Ordered some white bean dip. It was a cold 2 oz scoop of some flavorless paste. Didn't know what to put it on, so, we resorted back to the white toast. We are starving at this point and would have eaten about anything. We were going to have dinner here, but after that....well.....We were so horrified with our apps that we quickly finished our wines, paid our $60.00 tab and went out for some real food at a real restaurant. Maybe its not fair to critique a restaurant only on their appetizers, so, if all this review does is informs you on what NOT to order, than I have done my part in informing restaurant goers. Bruchetta at Maggianos is the best I have had in quite awhile, just in case you are looking! Pros: Atmosphere, wine choices Cons: Tapas more

Nashvilles best secret 3/30/2007

Recently I took the opportunity to take out of town guests to Flyte for dinner. After a very long day, I immediately felt relaxed as we walked through the door. The atmosphere is very calming and inviting, the colors very warm, the hostesses, friendly and welcoming. We were shown to our table in a timely manner and our waiter was experienced and very knowledgeable of not only the food, but of the wines as well. He and the wine director answered all our questions and had wonderful suggestions for pairings. We also loved the idea of wine flytes which allowed us to try wines we would not have normally. From the cheese plate to the short ribs, buffalo spring rolls and scallop appetizers to the soup flytes and salad flytes to the Tuna, Sea Bass and Rabbit, my guests and I were impressed. Nashville has a great new secret that won?t be a secret for long. Flyte was an excellent experience. I will recommend it to all my friends and co-workers. Pros: Wine, Food, Atmosphere, Service, Bathrooms more

Cannot believe this ranked #1 New Restaurant! 3/28/2007

6 of us went for a birthday dinner and all 6 vote thumbs down on service, food quality and ambience. The waiter had a chip on his shoulder and was combative with us several times regarding our selections and was scarce the rest of the evening. He also brought the wrong bottle of wine hoping we would not notice (a much more expensive bottle.) We thought this place was loud and ridiculously overpriced for average, forgettable food. Nashville has a much better restaurant a few blocks away in the same price group-- Watermark. Spend your money there on excellent food, service, and ambience. more

STILL SOOOO Outstanding! Just what Nashville Needed! 2/28/2007

UPDATED - We were lucky enough to return to Flyte on Oct 20th. Chef Ashley Quick and his kitchen delivered and incredibly outstanding meal. My wife and I shared the mushroom and the beet salads, both of which were top notch. We then shared the pork belly and pork cheek appetizers which were both fantastic. The pork cheek in particular was beyond delicious. I then had the venison which was perfeclty prepared and really hit the spot. We then shared a number of deserts at our table and there wasn't a bad note among them. It should also be noted that the wine list here is top notch - thoughtfully cfafted with a number of wines even vinofiles may never have had the pleasure of tasting. You absolutely can't go wrong with Flyte if you enjoy perfectly delivered high-end dining. Run...don't walk. __________________ Flyte is great wine and gourmet food without all the pretense. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable and the atmosphere is fun, hip and - compared to other Nashville high-end eateries - relaxed. Previously, it was hard to find top notch, creative food in Nashville without having to dress *way* up and mind your p's and q's....and there is a place for that...but it's so nice to have an alternative. Flyte has the food, but in an atmosphere that is open and welcoming. The wine list is full of unusual, delicious wines that won't break the bank and the flytes of wine allow a diner to sample many without stumbling financially OR literally. The idea of carrying the flyte concept over to the salads, soups and deserts is pure genius. The owners are usually on the premises and actually come by each table. Fantastic! This restaurant allows you to try lots of new flavors, wine and foods without breaking the bank and without being gluttonous. The food is largely organic and locally sourced, which is nice. Just about the time you think you've tired of the menu, it changes with the season. It's the classic idea of ""what's good, where it's good, when it's good"". Flyte is not to be missed. Pros: great food, great wine, creative menu, ample parking ...what's not to love! more

Wonderful menu and accompanying wine 2/28/2007

We went to Flyte based on a friend's recommendation and it was wonderful. The decor is trendy, the menu diverse, parking easy, and the food was absolutely delicious. One of the owners recommended trying a ""flyte"" of wine as well as appetizers, soup, and/or salads -- a great way to sample all of their delicious food in the perfect amounts. The staff was very attentive to all of our questions and was very helpful in recommending wines. My husband and I shared the flyte of soups and salads and wine and then both had the Mahi as an entree. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening and will definitely be back. Pros: Service, Parking, Food, Staff more

There is a reason the are the Best in Nashville 2/17/2007

From the moment we walked in the door until our dining experience was over and we left everything about this restaurent was first class all the way. We had never tried Flyte's but had heard good things about it , and everything we heard was true. The staff was very attentive to our needs and since it was our first trip they offered suggestions , some we tried and for sure on our next trip we will try more. The corn soup was to die for. The flavor and texture was just awsome. We tried all the salads and really liked the contrast they offered. For the main course we had the lamb and it was prepared perfect. Then came desert and just like everything else it was perfect. My wife had the pumpkin flyte which is a trio of pumpkin deserts and they all were very tasty. We sampled several different wines and found them to be very good by our standards as we are wine experts by no means. If someone asked me to suggest a restaurent for them to dine at in Nashville my first choice would be Flyte's everytime. The only thing better than the food at Flyte's was the service and it was first class all the way. more

One of the best! 2/13/2007

Sat was our second time going to Flyte - this time with friends who invited us to join them. We had a great time the first time around (about a month ago), so we were happy to join them. Interesting night to say the least. By the time we got there (around 8:30) they were packed - and they were out of what seemed like most of the menu. Not odd to be out of fish late on a Sat, but they were down to just a few things. Luckily, we were able to order enough to satisfy us all. We were just rolling with it and drinking our wine (killer wine list btw) when one of the owners (both Scott?) came by to apologize for being so short on food. He said it basically came down to not being prepared for the number of entrees that people in the bar ordered that night - and that they would be going with a limited bar menu in the future to stop that from happening again. So, fair enough. Then, he told us our food was on them! We were having a good time so it wan't necessary, but he insisted saying that it wasn't the full experience and that he wanted to make sure we came back. Fine by us - more money for wine! Food was excellent. Not normally a rabbit eater, but it was awesome. Ribeye got good marks from my buddy and my wife loved the vegetarian dish. These guys seem to be doing whatever it takes to make people happy (like buying our food) - and I can respect that. Just showing that they care and are paying attention (unlike a number of other place in town) goes a long way for me. The vibe is cool, the food is great, our server was informed and friendly (Mark?), and the wine list is unique to Nashville I think. Already one of the best places in Nashville that will only get better with time I think. Pros: Great food, cool vibe, excellent wine list, good service, owners on site Cons: They ran out of some menu items more

Delicious food, attentive service 2/8/2007

I have never written a review before. But, after dining at Flyte last night, I felt compelled to write. I had visited the bar for happy hour before, but last night was the first time I had supper there. It was easily the best meal I have had in Nashville in a long time. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. He suggested a wine that paired perfectly with my meal, and it wasn't the most expensive wine on the menu (how often have you been out and had a waiter suggest a wine, only to find out it was one of the most expensive items on the menu??). I also like the fact that they have a huge wine selection that is offered by the glass. Often, my husband and I want to order a bottle of wine, but our selection might not go with what one of us has ordered. By offering so many selections by the glass, each of us can easily find a nice wine to compliment our meal. The food and service were both excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. Pros: Delicious food, large wine selection by the glass, attentive service more

Flyte not flighty 2/4/2007

This New Yorker gives Flyte two thumbs up. I hope other restaurants will soon follow in their fabulous foot steps. Wines are fantastic and perfectly priced. Food and service definitely above par. I wish them lotsa luck and success. Nashville is lucky to have these guys. more

Fun with the flites of wines 1/28/2007

The space is great. My boyfriend and I even had what we thought was the best table in the house. The food was just not great, really not even good. None of the flavors worked well with each other. It was like a tasting that wasn't well thought out. We might go back for drinks but not a full dinner. Pros: Easy parking more

Best in Nashville 12/2/2006

Flyte provides an extraordinary array of wonderfully prepared dishes. Each is like an impressionistic painting: beautiful and well-constructed. The cooking techniques are perfect and the flavor combinations are inspired. There is a very unique wine list that is better annotated that any that I have ever seen. Pros: Food, Service and Ambience Cons: Crusty Neighborhood more

A future Classic in the making!!! 11/21/2006

I love restaurants! There is nothing like going out and enjoying a true package deal. Pros: everything Cons: hey if they did their time, they can come in more

Easily Nashville's Best New Restaurant 11/21/2006

The minute you walk into Flyte you can?t help but notice it has a cool, sophisticated vibe. The colors, the lighting, the art and the music all lend itself to a warm and inviting experience. My husband and I have eaten at Flyte several times since they?ve opened. We?ve never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and accomodating and the owners are personable and accessible. Whether lounging in the comfortable bar area or eating in the dining room, you can?t go wrong. We particularly like the antipasti menu and the small portions (flytes) of soup, salad or dessert. The flytes of wine are a great way to try a variety of different wines at the price of a glass. Overall, the wine list is diverse and affordable. Every wine is available by the glass and the staff is more than happy to let you taste a wine before you commit to a glass or bottle. The dinner menu keeps getting better and better. Some of our favorite appetizers include the buffalo spring rolls and the Mason-Dixon shrimp. For entrees, the lamb loin, ahi tuna and vegetable wellington have all been outstanding. If you are looking for a dining experience, head to Flyte now. This is the best kept secret in Nashville, but it won?t be for long. Pros: Great food and ambience, friendly and knowledgeable staff, valet parking more
