Five Star Relocation

Five Star Relocation is one of the worst moving services I have dealt with in the tri-state area over the last 12 years that I have lived here and have used 5 moving companies. When potential customers use online quotes, these guys flaunt their BBB “A” rating to get customers to sign up with them. But on the day of the move, or days before it, they know that you are locked in to their service and trap you by raising the price or making their estimate the minimum price. This happened to me despite my cautiousness and having spelled out everything over email with their sales person Nikki Cents. Simply put, they said there is no minimum charge for the move and it will be done on a time and materials basis. Therefore I didn’t give a lot of attention to the number of hours on the estimate. On the day of the move, they told me that the estimate is binding is in fact the minimum charge. Nikki, the sales rep on email and on the phone, and the owner, Juan Rivera, do the bait and switch on the last minute to take advantage of the customer’s lack of options. They also use to their advantage their so called “A” rating on BBB (a nonprofit service which has no teeth to do anything for you when something goes wrong) to bait customers searching for movers online. I schedule our move with Nicki the sales rep the estimate seemed fair and she seem to brag about their BBB A score. However little was mentioned about fees that would be attached at the final delivery. The owner Juan Rivera was present during the pick up he tried to extort more fees but I was firm with the estimate I recieved prior to the visit. I spoke with Juan and verbally agreed to move in delivery for Jan 6th 2010, he gave me a verbal confirmation however his office pushed our move to Jan 9th, the estimate time of delivery 3:00pm the driver did not show up until 5:30 pm and expected cash payment before delivering our items. I had a cashier check made out to the company, the driver refused the payment and want me to go to a check cashing place to cash the check. He even wanted a postal money order with payee blank.. This seem to be poor unethical payment practices. The driver had no backbone and refused to deliver out items until we spoke with the owner. Being that it was Sat, we were out of luck. Please beware of this company's sales antics and lack of customer service. I have reported this unethical practice to the BBB but who knows if more consumers will be taken in and have their item held hostage for are more attractive price.
