Unethical Service Department 5/6/2011

I took my Chevrolet to the Five Star Service department for a warranty special coverage adjustment (www.gmspeedometerrecall.c0m). The technician performed the initial inspection in accordance with the service bulletin. Once the inspection was complete, the Five Star Service Department confirmed it qualified for free parts and labor in accordance with the special coverage adjustment (i.e. less than 7 yrs and 70,000 Miles.) I took my vehicle back to the Five Star Service Department to have the service performed and then they hit me with a $250 "Customer Participation Fee." I did not pay the fee and drove the vehicle to the good people at Hamby Chevrolet who had never heard of a "Customer Participation Fee." I am not saying they are illegal with this "Customer Participation Fee" practice, but you certainly have to question the ethics. In the service manager’s defense, he did blame it on the warranty department manager. Proceed with caution when dealing with the Five Star service department! more

Terrible Sales & Service 2/21/2011

Terrible sales & service. I located a car on the net at Five Star Cadillac in Warner Robins, GA (1 hour away). I bought the used, late model car with low miles for almost $30K. The transaction started ok. Their price was fair and they gave me a fair amount for a trade (a little over $12K). The problems starts here: They use a worksheet showing you all the fees (DOC fee, tag/tile fee, tax, etc) and has a bottom line price that you will be paying (or the drive out price for the vehicle). When you look at the bottom line, you assume that this is the amount you will need to pay, but what you have to look for, is a line on the worksheet that they insert a down payment amount on to make the bottom line look less than what you are actually paying. I never discussed any down payment at all since I had a trade in that was taking a lot off the top of the vehicle (I owed less than 3.K on the trade in and they gave me more than 12K on it). I did not realize this until I get to the finance department and when I asked the total, there was a difference. They inserted a $2K down payment on the worksheet above the amount agreed on. Their response was that they ‘assume there will be a down payment’ so that is why it is there. Well, I find that very, VERY misleading. You agree on the price off the worksheet and when you get to the finance department, the amount is different. Now, this is partly my fault for not reading every single line, so after voicing my opinion and dissatisfaction (and I am sure I made them angry) I continued with the purchase of the vehicle. Also, their DOC fee of $499 is one of the highest I have seen in Georgia (most dealerships charge from $150 to $399) and this amount covers paperwork, processing, etc, but is really pure profit for the dealership. When I saw that they charged me $62 for the tag fee and it only cost $18 to transfer the tag, I questioned the amount. I was told that the extra was for the “ladies in the back to process the paperwork”. Well, what is the $499 fee for? They nickel and dime you at this dealership on their fees so be careful. When they took off the ‘sticker’, they tore/ripped the tint on the window. I did not even complain about this and never bought it to their attention. However, there were two issues with the vehicle that they agreed to fix and gave me the “We Owe” form showing both of them. The sales person said he would set up a time for me to bring the car back to have those two things fixed and it would take a couple of hours so they would give me a car to drive while they were fixing these issues. The sales guy called me on Thursday and told me to bring the car in Saturday morning and the part was taken care of. When I asked what time, he said anytime before noon. I told him that I would be there around 10am and he said it would be fine. When I showed up just before 10am on Saturday, the service department was in complete disarray. They had no appointment for me, rudely told me that my service did not warrant a car to use while they were fixing mine and the part needed was never ordered as they were never told I was brining the car in and that I should call next time before I come in. I could elaborate in more detail on the terrible service, but it is just more little negative details. Over all, they are not organized; lack communication and most of their attitudes are very negative. I cannot recommend this dealership for sales or service to anyone. more

Treats You Like Gold.....Until You Drive Off The Lot! 12/17/2010

Early October 2010, my wife & I purchased a 2008 Jeep Patriot with slightly over 20,000 miles from Five Star Chevrolet. Very nice vehicle. We found the vehicle online & drove quite a distance from the upstate of South Carolina to the dealership. After finalizing the deal, we prepared to drive off the the lot, we asked our sales rep where the second key was. We were informed that there wasn't a second key, but the sales rep promised that he would call the former owner of the vehicle to see if they have another key and if not, he would have one cut for us. Please keep in mind this was as we were about to drive off the lot & after all paperwork was signed, sealed & delivered. I called the sales rep back after a week. He stated that he hadn't yet contacted the former owner & that he would do so & call us back. We never heard back from him, so I called again. He stated that the former owner didn't have a key & that he would see what could be done about getting us a new key. We never heard back from him. I called him several times over the next few weeks & left voice mails, with no return calls. I finally resorted to calling & asking for a sales manager, who stated that the rep was not working that day. He promised to talk to the sales rep & then call me back. I never heard back from him. I called back again after two weeks, asking for a sales manager. I got a different sales manager & was again told that he wasn't working & they would speak with him & get back to me. Again, I never heard back from him. I called back one final time. This individual was slightly better in that he called me back, but informed me that since the key wasn't included in the paperwork (even though I found out about the lack of a key after the paperwork was completed), the sales rep claims he never promised me a new key and the fact that it had been 2 months since the car was purchased, they wouldn't get me a new key. This is simply unacceptable. I certainly hope that we don't accidentally lock our keys in the vehicle or worse yet, lock our dog in the car! I know this is a minor problem, but I believe in integrity & keeping promises made. They obviously do not train their staff on these two key business principles! more

I was given a Fair deal 9/29/2010

I am a single woman and have become accustomed to being treated as if I don?t know what I'm doing or that I can be easily taken advantage of at car dealerships. This didn't happen here. I was treated with courtesy and respect by everyone there. I was given a fair deal on my new car and was extremely pleased with the sales department and the service department. I have already recommended you to several of my friends. Thanks so much for making this car buying experience great! more

best service department 9/7/2010

The service department of this dealership is the best. We have been there on several occasions with car problems. They have always treated us honest and fair. They have even offered to give us a loaner car for days till our car issues have been fixed. And did not charge for this. And they are honest from the start of the work..no hidden costs to surprise you at the pick up of the fixed car. more
