Editorial review from Citysearch 11/25/2012

We just had our son's birthday party here and it was a great experience. We had originally booked somewhere else and that place cancelled at the last minute putting us in a tight spot. I called and talked to Devon who explained the party package to me and we booked on the spot. The party was organized and the kids had a lot of fun. The rock wall was fun for the kids...and the adults. :) The worker assigned to the party, Jordan, was helpful and great with the kids. It was an overall great experience! more

Think long and hard before dealing with this company! 5/9/2012

My wife and I joined FFF (Family, Fun and Fitness) approximately 3 years ago and when she lost her job shortly after joining I called and asked for our contract to be terminated because we were struggling financially and this would give us a little breathing room in our budget! I was totally shocked when I was told ""NO"" after several minutes of trying to plead my case with them they dropped my bill like $10.00 a month, I called back 3 months later and asked again and this time I was offered to have my account ""froze “for 3 months but the 3 months would be tacked on at the end of my contract. \r In December of 2011 my wife called in and told them we would be ending our membership in March they agreed and said just call in again in March and verify again and we will have you stop by and sign some papers, we called back in and we were told all was ok and stop by whenever we can and sign the necessary forms! \r We were billed for April and I was told just last night we will be billed for May also because we have to sign a form and give them 30 notice that our membership is ending and that we will not be going month to month! Just to clarify we are no longer under contract and we still have to give them a written notice that we do not want our membership! \r I stopped by last night (May 8, 2012) and asked to speak with the manager, when arrived at the desk he was very rude and arrogant and when I asked to speak to his boss I was told ""I don’t have one"" , I proceeded to ask him if he owned the place he said ""No and you will not speak to him either""!\r I forewarn everyone if you are thinking of doing business with this company beware! They claim to be a Christian Company but they sure don’t act like one! They don’t care about you but they sure care about your money! \r The equipment is old, outdated, some of the machine doesn’t even work, it is extremely hot in there and they have no pool, they claim to have one but it only seats about a few adults and that is it (you cannot swim laps just sit and soak).\r Child care is below par for what they charge you for. They do have a great play area but many times I found my kids dirty and no one really looking after them and even though you have a membership and pay for your kids to go there you cannot take your kids and leave, if you do it is an additional amount! \r I was shocked after joining to see and hear about all these additional fees they like to tack on. Please think twice about dealing with this place, if you are like most I know they will burn you and they don’t care!\r Ps.... If I could give a negative star rating I surely would have! Very disatisfied! If you notice a large majority of the ""Postiive 5 star ratings are from employees of the gym! Not suprising! more

Wonderful Gym & Great for Kids!!! 1/17/2012

PERFECT GYM FOR MR PERFECT 12/21/2011

ALL JOKING ASIDE, I LOVE THIS PLACE. THEY HAVE EVERYTHING. I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE HAMMER STRENGTH EQUIPMENT. MOST GYMS TODAY HAVE USELESS (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE PRETTY) CABLE MACHINES FOR EVERYTHING. THERE IS SOMETHING REWARDING ABOUT MOVING WEIGHT ON HAMMER STRENGTH MACHINES SINCE THEY AREN'T ON CABLES. I'VE NEVER TAKEN CLASS, BUT THEY SEEM TO BE VERY POPULAR. I BET THE ONE THAT MEETS ON TUESDAY NIGHTS HAS LIKE 50+ PEOPLE IN CLASS EVERY WEEK. LIFE LESSON: DON'T DINK AROUND WITH SMALL OR NEW GYMS JUST BECAUSE YOUR MOM LIKES HOW NICE THEY LOOK. GO TO A REAL GUY WITH REAL PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY REMEMBER YOUR NAME AND REMEMBER WHAT YOU LIKE- THEY ALWAYS HAVE A MUSCLE MILK WAITING FOR ME AT THE END OF MY WORKOUT. THANKS GUYS!! more

wow what a gym 12/16/2011

i've been a caridnal member for 2 years and thought i was in good shape. my friend told me about her membership to family fun's special workout area called gameready. that place is freaking crazy!!!!!at first i thought it was goign to be lame since there were a lot of old people in there, but it is no joke. the jacobs ladder kicked my butt. i haven't been able to get sore from working out in a long time and it feels great!!!!!! too bad i missed out on this for a year more

I'd rather drive 15 minutes further to go to another gym! 12/6/2011

I plan on NEVER stepping foot into this fitness center again! I made the mistake of signing a three year contract with them and realized too late how old and crappy their equipment is compared to other gyms. The treadmills were in horrible condition the entire time I belonged there (constantly breaking down) and the gym felt like 100 degrees while working out. The rest of the equipment is very old as well compared to other gyms. To make matters worse, the owners decided to buy new equipment and put it in a different part of the gym yet they kept the old crappy equipment. If I wanted to use the new equipment I had to pay an even higher price than what I was already paying. To top it all off, this past February I tore my ACL and needed a gym with a real lap pool and not a watering hole like FFF has. I went into FFF to stop my membership and they said they'd freeze it for six months instead so that if I wanted to come back during those six months I'd not have a price increase. I didn't realize that that meant they'd start charging me again after those six months were up with no warning! Sure enough six months later they started taking $48 out of my account again with no warning at all. Because their withdrawels don't say ""Family Fun and Fitness"" and instead say "" ASFInternational PAYMENT "" I didn't catch it right away. When I called FFF and told them that I didn't realize that they were withdrawing my money again and that I hadn't even stepped into their facility in nine months, they refused to refund even one months worth. Thanks to their horrible customer service and old equipment, I am now a lifelong member of LA Fitness! more

Biggest and best choices 8/14/2011

So this place is a bit further of a drive than what I am use to, but the club quickly makes up for it. Not only is this place HUGE (even though it doesn't look like much on the outside) it is packed full of equipment. They have the most cardio and weights I have ever seen under one roof!!! I haven't been to a class yet, but I hear they are great. It just so happens that they added more this week so I might try one out and let you know how it goes. I am also ready to learn more about their Game Ready area to see what all the rave is about. I am happy that I won't have to fight the new years crowd in a crowded gym this year!!!!! more

Love the Freemotion Treadmills & Jacob's Ladders 4/24/2011

As an avid runner, treadmills are vital in my workout when its cold and rainy. Family fun and fitness has 4 Freemotion treadmills. These are top notch and go a long way in saving my knees and back when I run since they have a suspension platform. Family fun and fitness also has an incredible machine called the JACOB'S LADDER!! That thing is brutal, but in a good way. I am a mini-marathon distance runner and that thing kicked my butt after 12 mins. They have lots of stuff there, kind of wish I would have been a memebr when the kids were younger (all college now) since they have so much stuff. Live and learn. more

Must read 12/24/2010

Really surprised to see the positive reviews. Devon, Martha, Anna and Nicki are FFF employees reviewing their employer, how odd. The facts: New management is an improvement, previous management just couldn't get much worse. Very small improvements since new management took over. Painted some walls, cleaned up the pool so you can now see the bottom and put new belts on 4 treadmills, the only treadmills in the place that are not worn out JUNK. Previous management made poor decisions and spent over $300,000 for some new equipments. BUT, in order for long-term members to use that equipment, they had to pay to get in the ""gym within the gym,"" all the while, the other equipment was not upgraded nor maintained. A previous reviewer was so happy that mgmt replaced 4 treadmill belts and bought some new pins. How low can expectations get. In all fairness, Kathy and Mike are excellent trainers and the spinroom is equiped with top-quality spin bikes. Management is unwilling to spend the money necessary to bring the gym up to reasonable standards because previous mgmt wasted all the money building the new gym within a gym. All cardio equipment is old, hotel workout room quality and worn out. Sometimes it sets inoperable for 6 months. I have been a member for several years, but I will be moving on, the future does not look good for FFF. Another problem is the gym is closed on Sunday, but the rates do not reflect a 6-day operation. Before signing any documents at this place I recommend talking with current members. There is a lot of talk about the poorly maintained equipment that has not been upgraded for several years and the new ""gym within a gym"" is really a sore subject. more

New and Improved; Family Fun & Fitness!! 11/15/2010

During a wellness screening program at work three years ago, the reality of being overweight hit hard when I registered 45% body fat via the electrode method. My youngest daughter Jennifer talked me in to joining Family Fun and Fitness (FFF). A plan was developed during my initial free visit with trainer Mike Bellinger which also involved small incremental changes to my diet and lifestyle. Three years later I’ve lost 65 pounds and Mike Bellinger measured my body fat at 23%. I still have some progress to achieve my initial goal of 18%. One of the keys of my success has been the very positive attitude and enthusiasm provided by FFF trainer Mike Bellinger. Over the years, we’ve developed efficient methods to get the most out of my time spent in the gym. His philosophy of “keep moving with or without the ball” has kept me focused on various activities outside of the gym. “Under New Management” Last October, I noticed the owner of FFF speaking with various members on a regular basis in the evenings. My prediction was some kind of change was in the wind….. A few months ago there has been a staffing change and overall change in customer service and community involvement. The first change I noticed was the exercise swimming pool had clear blue water instead of a green hazy color. Other improvements were made that are too numerous to mention for this review. However, it is important to mention some equipment improvements which have been made: • Four of the treadmills have had the decks replaced. The deck is the solid surface below the revolving belt. Many gyms try to temporarily fix the permanent problem of a slipping belt with the temporary fix of tightening or replacing the belt. The right way to fix it is to replace the deck so the belt won’t slip. • Seven weight machines in the Circuit #2 area had missing pins for the weight stack which is a common problem in many gyms. The pins were not only replaced, but the pins had flexible cords to prevent the pins from being misplaced. I’ve also noticed the return of a large number of families in the gym. Many make their visit a true family experience and either play basketball as a team, play catch or other activities. Some minor improvements that have been made including placing a remote control along with a steel cable with each TV so the channel or volume can be changed without climbing on the treadmills to make the adjustments. more

Family Fun and Fitness......a great place to belong! 9/9/2010

I gave FFF a 5 star rating based on what is important to me in a workout facility. FFF earns this rating based on the variety of offerings.....variety of equipment, activities, classes, and trainers. The building itself may not be upscale, but it is the people that make it a great experience for all ages and levels of fitness. Come check us out during Open House week Monday thru Saturday, Sept 13-18! more

Fun For The Whole Family 9/9/2010

I have been a member since January 2010. There have been a lot of positive changes this year that make this facility the best place to have family fun and get fit all at the same time. I definitely recommend it!\r \r There are two kid areas...one for ages 5 and under, and the other for ages 6 to 12. Both areas are staffed with people to care for your child while you do other things. My kids like the rock-climbing wall, the blow-up-bouncy thing, and all the other fun stuff too.\r \r I like the indoor tennis court, the basketball courts (there are 4 to choose from), the bowling alleys, the GameReady area, racquet ball courts, and I kind of like some stuff in the kids area too :-)\r \r There is also a special room for having birthday parties and they will help you out with that as well.\r \r And, they have a great concession area, so you can come in the morning and stay all day without getting hungry! more

I would recommend this gym 9/9/2010

I have been at the gym for almost a year now and I think it is awesome. It is centrally located between several smaller towns in the county. I think it is very diversified in it's membership. You will find people of any size, shape or age who are either trying to stay fit, healthy or mobile. The members are so friendly. It has that small town feel which I think is a plus. It has the inventory of machines like any of the other name brand gyms without the expectations to have to wear name brand workout clothes. The facility is going through some much needed updates that are making it look nicer and cleaner. Give it a try. See you there. more

Started off good........ 12/28/2009

Family Fun is located just 5 miles from my house. It made for a great place to bike to and then workout. Even though I planned on signing up when I walked in, a pushy salesman really turned me off. I finally agreed to a contract but didn't realize it was 3 YEARS!!! As it most often does, my life situation changed and my family was required to move. The relocation was 1 hr away. When I went to cancel my membership, I was informed that it wasn't out of their reach radius so it could only be canceled if I paid 25% of the remainder. The reason we moved was financial so I didn't have the money and couldn't afford to drive an hour both ways just to workout. They have a lot of attractions for the whole family. Indoor tennis, multiples basketball courts, a pool (we never used it though because it is only an aerobic pool. However, the place is really dirty and dingy. The showers are awful. Don't expect to workout in the morning and get cleaned up there before work :( The bowling alley doesn't even work. There are several leaks in the roof when it rains and I rarely saw a bucket out to catch the water. I would still workout there if I hadn't moved, but I wouldn't give it a strong recommendation to anyone that has other fitness options. Pros: Numerous facilities & classes, *good value for price Cons: Dirty, Long contracts, hidden clauses, manager is abrasive more

Very disappointed 12/8/2009

My family has been members at FF&F since it opened. Once I grew up and got married, my husband and I decided to join as well. We were sold an incredibly over-priced membership by a pushy sales guy who it turns out isn't even a permanent employee of FF&F and didn't even know the policy for child care (he told us it was free, then later charged us!). Since then we've been very disappointed in the upkeep of the facilities. There's a leak in the women's locker room, the lights in the pool room have something (we thought mold, FF&F said rust) growing in them, the hot tub is frequently not working and the pool itself is too chilly for an indoor pool. The childcare leaves much to be lacking. My daughter was nervous to go in there at first (9 months old) so I sat in there several times to get her adjusted. On 2 occasions to managed to find old food (once a poptart, once a cracker) inside some of the toys and play equipment. Gross! Because our daughter still refuses to go int he daycare at FF&F, we looked into other gyms. We found one that is clean, well-maintained, has great hours AND my daughter loves the child care. Unfortunately we're still under contract with FF&F and they refuse to work with us in any way. They won't even refund us for the personal trainer sessions we paid for in advance (but never used) and the GM, Jeff Frey, was extremely rude to my husband over the phone. I would never have thought that a 'hometown' kind of fitness facility like FF&F would have such poor customer service, but apparently that's the case! With as much money as they're charging people, the place should have new paint and amenities that function properly and be CLEAN. Pros: Convenient location, great instructors Cons: Not kept up, not open Sunday, poor customer service more

Read your contract 5/20/2009

Paid over 900 for two year membership and , only went few times , was told i expired in april 2009. Manager did not explain as of that time I would still be in contract for month to month payment. And had to give them 30 day notice. So need to say i have late fees, and membershipdues which i do not even go. They did the same thing to my friends so just watch out. I will never recomend this place to anyone. They didnt want to work with me at all, knowing i had only been there a few times and still paid, So work out at home and save your money. Pros: facilities Cons: ripoff didnt explain well more
