Exterior Concepts

We discovered Exterior Concepts at a Tampa Home Show back in January. We came to David with a unique request which included having a grassy area inside a deck so that we could let our puppy safely out (we live in a HOA community that does not allow us to have a fence – but does allow decks with railings) and so that we could enjoy our outside space more. He was very receptive to our idea and was able to help come up with a unique idea for our request….which I believe this type of request may have been the first for him.\r \r After having multiple contractors bid on our project, we decided to use Exterior Concepts to build our deck, including solid skirting and stairs, and an AC unit “lattice”. We ultimately decided on Exterior Concepts because David was very responsive and wonderful at answering all of our questions…and being this was our first large home project…we had hundreds (or so it seemed like). He answered any and all questions we had and was very helpful. \r \r About a month ago, the work was completed (within the estimated budget!) and the end result was fantastic! Actually, it came out better than we could have imagined! We have also received numerous compliments on our unique/custom deck with our grassy area for our large pup and we are extremely happy with the end result.\r \r We are so happy we decided to use Exterior Concepts and we have already recommended them to our friends, family and neighbors!\r more

Exterior Concepts built me a beautiful covered deck with pavers, waterfall, and fireplace over three years ago that still looks brand new with virtually no maintenance. The owner, Dave Hettrick, has a very artistic vision that blends naturally into the landscape. Prior to building my deck I spent virtually no time in my backyard of weeds. Now, I spend as much time as possible in my back yard. Its as if Dave and his team added on a new room. My back yard is now my favorite part of my house! more

The best Team hands down. \r I discovered Exterior Concepts at a Home Show in Tampa a few weeks ago and I said I would love to have some pavers in the back yard and possibly at the front. They called as they promised and Peter came out the day after. He gave me an estimate and gave great advice on the projects I had in mind. He also made a computer rendering of my projects which was awesome. He directed me to the website for additional ideas and concepts. Their site is amazing. After viewing Exterior Concepts amazing website, we believed they were the right company for us to hire for converting our unused backyard into an outdoor living space. Dave Hetrick and his team did a great job, helping us organize our dream backyard design into individually priced pieces so our project could be done in phases in order to stay in our budget for this year. This summer we added a beautiful pergola, with pavers underneath and a paver walkway. Dave’s designs are creative and he thinks outside the “box shape”, and we are very pleased with the results. The crews that came to do the work were very courteous and cleaned up the work areas. If you’re looking for a creative designer, Dave is the one to hire. We’ve received many compliments from neighbours on the beautiful design of the wood pergola and have recommended Exterior Concepts to anyone who asked. more

I used Exterior Concepts over the course of a year and a half, having two phase of backyard renovation completed over that time. In Phase 1, Exterior Concepts designed and built a new deck over 2/3rds of the yard, steps, planters and a fire pit. It was a fantastic transformation of a space that was not very friendly to relax in. \r The second phase included the addition of a hot tub, elevated decking and benches, a bar top, more planters, and a large shade structure. We get constant compliment on how wonderful the backyard looks. It's a fantastic place to host guests, and simply enjoy by ourselves.\r In both cases the work was completed quickly, and within the defined estimate/budget. Also, in both cases, we were able to work with Dave and the builders to make adjustments as we liked throughout the build. These adjustments were able to be made within the original planned budget. They were very interested in making sure that we would have something that we would love, when they finished. During Phase 2, they also fixed something that they didn't like from Phase 1. I had not even noticed in over the course of a year, but one of the builders did, and fixed it. All\r In short, Exterior Concepts was a joy to work with and very professional. Exterior Concepts designed and built an outdoor patio with pavers in a beautiful shape along with walkways and a matching pergola that turned out amazing. We had, like many in Florida, a backyard that we never used because there was no place to sit or do anything. They also did our landscape design. It all turned out amazing. It has been completed for a month or so now and the only thing that has prevented us from being outside with our family is rain. We use it day and night. It also became another thing we wanted.. the official hangout for or and our daughter's friends. It sometimes feels like an Italian Villa out there... truly awesome.\r Exterior Concepts did all of this even with time constraints as we wanted it done for our daughters birthday and they did it. I really appreciate it. They also are true to their word and estimate; they honor what they say and that is rare now-a-days. \r I thank David, Peter, Andrew as well as the whole crew (sorry I don't recall everyone's names). Highly recommended!!! What a pleasant surprise we had with Exterior Concepts! My husband and I are renting a home that needed work on the backyard pond. The crew who came out to repair our pond was extremely knowledgeable, incredibly hard working, and fast! They restored our pond and it's beautiful! We are so pleased with the professionalism and courtesy we experienced in dealing with Exterior Concepts. For those looking for the highest level feedback, my wife and I couldn't be more pleased with our outdoor living space and having met Dave Hetrick and his Exterior Concepts team. Exterior Concepts was able to deliver the turn-key solution we were looking for with great quality, people, and financial value. For starters, our backyard wasn’t in bad shape to begin with. We purchased a renovated South Tampa pool home a year ago and some landscaping was done prior to help with the sale. Our initial scope was simply to extend the pavers on our patio and it wasn’t until we met Dave, and he got to know us a little bit, that he showed us what we could do to truly make an outdoor living space. From my perspective, this is what is invaluable to Exterior Concepts, its not just about a renovation or addition, rather creating a unique and comfortable outdoor living space that can be used year round in Florida. There are a lot of landscape and hardscape firms throughout the bay area, but Dave's eye for design and incorporating personal touches into our project is what really set him apart. Ultimately we extended our patio, put pavers over old concrete around our pool, added coping to pool and spa, built a bench/flag stone bar around a large oak (very creative design Dave brought to us), built an outdoor pavilion, and added landscaping and low voltage lightening that accents the entire project. We couldn’t be happier with our outdoor living space, its our new favorite ""room"" in our home.\r \r In addition to exceeding our expectations with the finished product, we really enjoyed the process. It started with an initial assessment of our backyard. As opposed to asking us for our ""budget"" Dave was transparent about the pricing for each segment of the project (pavers, carpentry, landscaping, lighting) from the onset, allowing us to estimate how much we wanted to do and to compare prices from other firms. From there, we described what we were looking for and Dave prepared a drawing that was broken out into multiple phases, allowing us to plan how we wanted to tackle the project, and making us comfortable knowing we wouldn’t have to bite it all off at one time. Considering the competitive price points and quality of the work Dave and his team provide, we were able to get exactly what we were dreaming for with what Dave designed. Finally, I couldn’t speak more highly of the teams that work directly for Exterior Concepts. Working from home and having a wife that works part-time, everyone was extremely courteous and professional. The work was completed on-time and the crews did an excellent job of making sure the worksite (our home!) was tidy each night before cutting out. All-in-all, we are impressed and pleased with the design, craftsmanship, and Exterior Concepts team and would recommend Dave and team to friends and family. \r more

Several years ago I needed to have my Davis Island dock fixed. The planks were old and weathered. David replaced them but that wasn't enough. He noted a sagging and brought the dock up square - a problem I hadn't noted, just David's eye for having the job done right. When I wanted a deck in the back I wouldn't have asked anyone else. In our case we initially just wanted a pergola in the back yard, after we saw his work we decided to also get the pavers as well. The work Dave and his crew did was very creative and artistic (also incorporated some of out existing pavers into the pattern). We could not be happier with out new outdoor room and we have, and will continue to recommend this business to our friends and neighbors! I spent $22k with David Hetrick at Exterior Concepts. Here are the facts: 1) He said that he would do the work himself. Over the course of 90 days, he spent at most 2 full days on the job site. 2) He subcontracted work to poor quality contractors who delivered wrong product and poor installation. 3) David promised to fix any/all problems and provide a warranty. After he was paid (prior to completion of project - my fault for listening to him), he ignored all phone calls. I had to hire somebody else to finish the job and correct the problems.
