The high rating of Ernestos is incredibly misleading. The rest of the postings have got to be from employees. Here's a review from a real customer. The food is not authentic italian. It is mediocre standard italian american fare. Not at all inspired, very little flavor. The marsala was too sweet, the clam chowder too salty (though it did have lots of clam in it's defense). And to top it off, my boyfiend got sick. We won't be back. Pros: easy parking, no wait Cons: mediocre food more

Best Italian Restaurant Around! 3/9/2007

My wife and I really like Ernesto's. We have enjoyed many fine meals there with lots of our friends. We have celebrated birthdays, engagements, and anniversaries at Ernesto's, and have never been disappointed. Whether you are looking for a romantic evening or a group party this is the place to go. The staff are always very attentive and very helpful. The food is always top rate. Ernesto's is the best Italian Restaurant in the area. Pros: Ambience, Friendly staff, good service and great food. Cons: Parking can sometimes be a problem. more

Very best Pizza in Portland 11/14/2006

We eat at Ernestos on average once a week and their Pizza is ordered 90% of that time, It is to die for....We order the combination with olives added and no top layer of cheese on the very top...too much cheese. they know our names by our order and always greet us like family. Amazing food made by amazing people....Ernestos one of Portland's best restaurants. Pros: Pizza is incredible Cons: Got our to go order wrong a couple of times more

Ernesto's is simply great! The food is always excellent as is the staff. They also have a full bar that serves a full menu for those needing a drink after work. For a treat try their pizza, it's one of the best pizza's in town. Pros: family friendly, service, food, pizza Cons: -none- more

Amazing food! 9/9/2006

I used to be a total olive garden person for my Italian food...but i went to Ernesto's for a wedding rehersal (which the room's are really big! doesn't look that big from outside!) I'm totally hooked! The food is amazing! The pizza is really good and so is the spagetti and meatball's that my new favorite! Have not had a single bad experience there! everyone should go there!!! it makes olive garden taste like a TV Dinner!! Pros: Everything! Cons: Parking on jesuit football nights, Student take up parking! more

Ernesto's always delivers 7/3/2006

We have been to Ernesto's several times and have only had one meal that wasn't just excellent. The dish that was just so-so was the chicken parmasean. It was good, but not up to the usual quality that I am used to seeing at Ernesto's. I felt like the chicken was a little tough and to make up for lack of good texture and flavor, the restaurant PILES the cheese on it. I love cheese and it was even too much for me. The wine by the glass selection is a little lacking but the bottle selection is pretty decent. The caesar salads here are very good, with a unique caesar dressing that is very flavorful and the anti-pasta plate is one of the best in town, with a huge serving of meats, cheeses and veggies. This is a great place for mid-large size groups. The wait staff is a little young which can lead to some inexperienced servers, but all in all Ernesto's is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. Pleasant, comfortable, and enjoyable experience 4/8/2006

We enjoy most of the dishes at Ernestos and have made it a favorite spot to dine. The veal parm, chicken parm, and Cannelloni are delicious. But Wednesday's Chicken Pesto soup is astonishing. This restaurant was breath taking. I entered the room and was blown away by the incredible service and the elegance of the place itself. Food was sensenational!!!!!!! The waiters were quick on their feet, and the bartenders defientally had it goin on...! I would recommend this for family or for lovers of all ages, and sizes. Yum Yum Yum! Seriously, my girlfriend and I went out for our first date. If you think that Olive Garden is "great" italian food, you might like this place. However, it makes Olive Garden seem like italy. Really, don't waste your time, eat ramen. more

Family friendly and yummy too :) 7/12/2005

I've been going to this place since before their name change and since the old location by Bvtn Hillsdale FredMeyer.. they have always had excellent food and fantastic service.. I grew up going there and now I take my husband and son there :) One of my fave. escapes from the day to day grind a relaxing atmosphere with great comfort food and service with a smile :) Pros: kid friendly, wonderful food, great service Cons: parking more

Ernestos Restaurant has never dissapointed me. The food, the service, and atmosphere are fantastic. This is a restaurant that can easily be both a romantic date reccomendation, or great casual dining as well. First off their Seafood Fettuccine is the best around. Friendly bartenders always give good drinks. Plus free pizza during Happy Hour. Ernesto's is the only place to take my parents out for Italian food. more

Nothing bland or tasteless here, like you find at chain restaurants like the incredibly overrated Olive Garden! Genuine homemade sauces, salad dressings, pasta to die for, addictive bread to munch while waiting for dinner, great service, and an overall feeling of warmth and welcoming. Ernesto's kicks butt! The ambiance is authentic and cozy a great place for couples and big groups of friends. The food far surpasses national chains and has a homemade flavor. For the price the value is more than expected. The $2 after 8pm bar menu is also fantastic! more

  • Mike Ceccanti, owner of Ernesto's Italian Restaurant, grew up in the family restaurant business. His grandfather, Ernesto Ceccanti, emigrated to the U.S. in 1919 from the Tuscany and opened the Monte Carlo restaurant in Portland in 1927. By age 7 Mike was making raviolis in his grandfather's kitchen and has continued the family traditions of providing casual dining with a healthy dose of Old World charm. Building on his family's traditional Italian recipes, Mike has added his own creations such as Seafood Fettucini & Pasta Classico. While the offerings have evolved a little over time, you can count on finding generous portions of homemade Italian food in a comfortable environment. Be sure not to miss our specialty soups!
