Best Italian Restaurant in Portland 6/12/2010

This has been my favorite Italian restaurant for over five years now. Great and tasty special dishes made off the menu every week. Great lunch buffet for the price. Love the chicken parm dinner. The best caesar salad and the best clam chowder on the weekends. The foccacia bread is homemade and always delicious. The wine selections, especially the reds, are always good selections featured every month. I live in Vegas now, but whenever I am back in Portland, I always come back to this restaurant. Haven't found a better Italian restaurant since Ernesto's. Pros: Food, wine selection, friendly staff and managers Cons: Can't think of any cons about the restaurant right now. more

The BEST traditional Italian restaurant in Oregon!!! 5/9/2010

Ernesto's is our family's favorite Italian restaurant for celebrations, for take-out or for just having a wonderful meal. When I walk into Ernesto's, it is like walking into my grandfather's restaurant, Benny's Spaghetti, as a child in San Diego. From the hanging wine bottles and grape vines, the aromas, the family feeling - right down to the music - I feel like I am home. Pros: Great food, ambiance and fantastic service! more

Traditional Italian food and then some! 5/4/2010

Celebrated double birthday party. 31 guests for family style dining. Excellent food and fabulous service. The cheese ravioli, meat ballsand herb roasted chicken were expecially good. The penne with meat sauce was very, very good. As were the caesar salad and minestrone soup. We had a wonderful server who was able to provide excellent pacing , especially for a group of 31. Would highly recommend Ernesto's for 2 or for a large party . Don't forget the Lemon Tiramisu and other delighful desserts. A real wonderful experience!!! Pros: Great food! Great service! more

Raleigh Hills gathering place - best food in town! 4/18/2010

This place is just a great environment with the best Italian food in town. The service is outstanding from the moment you walk in the door. Regular customers always find people they know from the neighborhood. To go food is also awesome - from spagetti to pizza and all the pasta dishes. Great homemade bread! A nice bar and wonderful meeting rooms for family occasions. Try it - you'll like it - it's our favorite familly place! Wonderful Italian food, very friendly atmosphere. 4/9/2010

Seating is fast and comfortable. It's a large place, plenty of room for parties. The food is great especially the daily specials from their chef. We've found the staff to go out of their way to make your experience pleasant. Highly recommended for families and couples. Pros: Tuscan Steak salad is the best ever! more

This is the best italian food restaurant I've been to in the Portland Metro area. I have been coming here for many years and this restaurant has consistently provided me with the highest quality of both food and service. Authentic, Friendly, Historic 2/12/2010

From the decor to the wonderful service all the way to the last bite our evening at Ernesto's was a great one. Our family celebrated my husband's birthday at Ernesto's last night. His family is Italian and couldn't get enough of the food. The evening was very enjoyable and we will definitely be back to Ernesto's. No Waiting, Very Accommodating 1/18/2010

My husband and I with my two children arrived at The Olive Garden in Beaverton at around six and were informed that the wait to be seated would be over an hour. We decided to leave and use our gift certificate (the reason for our visit) another night. Nice atmosphere, not so great food or service 12/23/2009

We came before 6 on a weeknight and were seated right away with our family of 6. There were good choices for kids meals but the drinks were priced separately, beware! We had fried mozzarella for an appetizer and it was good, the bread was good. The entrees were served too soon after our soup & salad, and they were really greasy. I ordered chicken parmigiana and I'm not that picky, I've had a lot of different versions, but this was just about the worst ever. Plus, they brought me veal parmigiana at first--the wrong food! I had a bite and sent it back for the chicken. The chicken came and the meat was only about 1/4 inch thick and the breading and cheese was another 1/2 inch! It might have been better if served on top of spaghetti, but the spaghetti or ravioli is served in a different dish. My husband got a trio and they were all greasy. The waitress kindly took my order off because it was just inedible. They never refilled any of our drinks except my husband's root beer, and they brought him pepsi by mistake. My family and I go to Ernestos almost every weekend! We love the food and always get excellent service! The staff is so nice and very helpful with suggestions if you don't know what you feel like eating and they always have a great special! Pros: Super friendly service! The people that compare this place to Olive Garden are out of their minds. You are unqualified to comment on Italian food if you have ever set foot in Olive Garden. Ernesto's has been a favorite in my family for many years. We always enjoy the fresh bread, delicious flavors, comfortable booths, friendly service, and unpretentious atmosphere. WORST ITALIAN FOOD-GARBAGE 8/10/2009

Living in New Jersey for 15 years, I was attending a trade show in Portland and tried Ernestos for dinner. Where do I begin to describe this place? The marinara sauce is worse than Ragu from a bottle! Thick, red paste? The pasta is so overcooked. The chicken must have been in a warming unit for hours-the meat had shrunk off of the leg bone from being in the warmer so long! Pros: NONE more

  • Mike Ceccanti, owner of Ernesto's Italian Restaurant, grew up in the family restaurant business. His grandfather, Ernesto Ceccanti, emigrated to the U.S. in 1919 from the Tuscany and opened the Monte Carlo restaurant in Portland in 1927. By age 7 Mike was making raviolis in his grandfather's kitchen and has continued the family traditions of providing casual dining with a healthy dose of Old World charm. Building on his family's traditional Italian recipes, Mike has added his own creations such as Seafood Fettucini & Pasta Classico. While the offerings have evolved a little over time, you can count on finding generous portions of homemade Italian food in a comfortable environment. Be sure not to miss our specialty soups!
