AWESOME and AUTHENTIC 6/6/2009

My husband (who is100% Sicilian) and I have been searching for a great Italian restaurant since we moved to Oregon almost five years ago, well, we found it. Ernesto's is like being in my husband's grandmothers kitchen. We so enjoyed our experience we plan on coming back at least once a month. Molto Bene'!! Good Food - Family Oriented 4/22/2009

The food here is great, hot, fresh and definitely tasty. The service is spotty, but usually you won't wait long. The owner is 4th generation and is a delight to speak with, as she cruises the dining room. The desserts are wonderful and they are good on taking suggestions. Reasonable prices and good food keep us coming back. Pros: Good food and plenty of it Cons: Not for a romantic get away more

Great Atmosphere for familys of all ages! Excellent pasta! 3/6/2009

Ernesto's has been part of my family tradition for a long time! We have been going there every Friday for I don't know how long. The servers are always very happy to help you and give you ideas if your not sure what you feel ike eating! The food is always delicious and I never leave dissapointed! The managers are excellent and always go table to table to check on everyone. It is a great place for kids (I have a 2 year old and 11 year old) they don't have to sit and be quiet to get a great meal! I would recomend giving Ernesto's a try if you haven't yet. If you don't enjoy it you can go to Olive Garden next time and get undercooked chicken and crappy service. Pros: It a grat place to feel at home! Cons: You can't eat pasta every day. more

Best Italian Restaurant in Portland 2/14/2009

My husband and have eaten at Ernesto's many times. We have never been disappointed with the food and service. Often, I dine there at lunch time with friends. The buffet offers a good variety and the salad bar is fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant for a nice lunch or dinner with great service and friendly staff. Pros: Great food. The restaurant is clean. Even the bathroom is clean and neat. Cons: When it is really busy, sometime the parking can be a problem. more

Treat you like family and you head home full and happy 1/9/2009

I love the way that I am treated at Ernesto's Italian Restaurant with each returning visit. They make me feel welcomed and like family. The food is great and the service is five star. Everyone wants you to leave happy. I have been a fan for years and they just keep getting better and better. I know that I can recommend them to all of my friends without hesitation. They are reflective of the golden standard! Pros: Wonderful staff that will remember you; time after time. They make sure that you leave happy! Also best Happy Hour in town! Cons: I haven't found it. more

The food and service at Ernesto's is great. Basic meals with a good price and terrific flavors. Nice appetizers and a good wine list. You do not feel rushed to eat your meal and can take your time enjoying your company and the meals they present. This is a great place. more

Best Italian Food - Great Place for our Retiree Get-togethers! 10/3/2008

My group of retirees love to meet here several times a year, not only for the terrific food, but the owners provide us with a private room for our get-to-gether and provide the best service around. As one can imagine, we also have a strong need for ample parking and handicap access. Many of us have been Monte Carlo customers over the years and rejoice that the best pizza and authentic Italian food we enjoyed there over the years is available at Ernesto's. more

Customer Service Lacking 9/5/2008

I decided to give this restaurant a try after reading good reviews on City Search. com. I went online to view the menu and when I called in my order the prices were more than advertised online. The hostess actually called me back to tell me that the pizza was not only more than the online price but she had also quoted me an out of date menu price and that the pizza would be even more than that. I know it is a matter of only a few dollars but it is more about principle for me. She said the manager couldn't honor the advertised price and they had to charge what the register rang up. I have never heard of a manager that couldn't override the register price to honor customer service. I hope the pizza is good because so far the customer service is lacking. more

wonderful for happy hour, a quiet Italian dinner, or a grand party 8/4/2008

Only someone who doesn't know how Italian food should be cooked or taste will give Ernesto's a bad review. It has to a premiere epicurean establishment in Oregon. We've eaten there for years and never had a bad meal or unfriendly service. We've even had banquets there. They now have a larger banquet room, at least twice as large as before, and the decor of old Italy is maintained throughout. It's fun, affordable, romantic, and delicious. Pros: Great parking, great service, great food, great atmosphere Cons: It's easy to eat too much more

We eat at Ernesto's all of the time and take any guests we have to dine there. Everyone has loved the food and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Annie always makes us feel like family, as does all of the staff. Pros: Great food, comfortable environment more

  • Mike Ceccanti, owner of Ernesto's Italian Restaurant, grew up in the family restaurant business. His grandfather, Ernesto Ceccanti, emigrated to the U.S. in 1919 from the Tuscany and opened the Monte Carlo restaurant in Portland in 1927. By age 7 Mike was making raviolis in his grandfather's kitchen and has continued the family traditions of providing casual dining with a healthy dose of Old World charm. Building on his family's traditional Italian recipes, Mike has added his own creations such as Seafood Fettucini & Pasta Classico. While the offerings have evolved a little over time, you can count on finding generous portions of homemade Italian food in a comfortable environment. Be sure not to miss our specialty soups!
