Best

The best of the Best....I love this place...

Worst

Service was slow. Too expensive for what you get. Sauces over power the food as opposed to compliment it. $23.95 for 5 shrimp and no sides (need I say more?) The food, service...

Good eats 8/26/2003

It's a great place to eat... however, I've found it to be a little on the inconsistant side. The carpetbag steak is decent. The quality of meat is good, but the preparation is very dull. The sauces are also very average. However, there are still a handful of dishes very worthy of trying. The fish is usually prepared very well. Appetizers are also fine-tuned and tasty. Still a highly recommended place. Pros: Service, Atmosphere Cons: Inconsistant more

Perfect! 7/8/2003

I absolutely love Eddie V's - both locations! This place has WONDERFUL food and a great atmosphere. I prefer to go down town because of the piano background and more room, but the Arboretum is the regular and is just as good. That sea bass will make you cry - it is SO good! Pros: Great Drinks, Unbeatable Food Cons: Pricey, Small Bar (North) more

Good, but not cheap 6/16/2003

Don't go here if you are on a budget. This place serves seafood mostly - meaning you pay for the quality. I actually think Eddie V's has some of the best fried calamari (they serve it with a tasty salad on the side) that actually makes you feel like you aren't eating something so bad. If you are on a budget, but want to splurge a little, go during happy hour. Some of their best dishes (crab cakes, calamari) are half priced. Drinks are $1 off. Do check your bill pretty carefully if you go during happy hour - sometimes they don't register the right prices. I would recommend this place if you are splurging and want very good seafood. Pros: good quality, great view, great food Cons: expensive more

Arboretum store rocks!!!!! 6/15/2003

We recently went into the Eddie V's Arboretum location & ""WOW"" what an awesome time!!! The complimentary valet outfront, the very gracious host staff, the fun yet romantic bar atmosphere & then the dining room - quant, romantic, & upbeat all in one. The food was superb, the waitstaff attentive & the management extremely polite & friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone & everyone. Go for the calamari (app) & the snapper w/crab or steack oscar (entree) & all the sides are awesome too. Don't forget the dessert - Godiva (to die for) cake. Pros: food, service, management Cons: absolutely nothing more

Great food but expensive 5/26/2003

My wife and I decided to check the Eddie V's location in the Arbor, knowing this was one of our ""special"" places when it was Brio Vista. My first impression was OH MY GOD what have they done to the place, it was full of light and open now it is like a Chicago Chop House. After having trouble to get a Kir Royal at the bar having to wait for 15 minutes until someone payed attention. However, the wait staff in the restaurant section was very attentive and helpful. The food OH MY GOD fantastic! Prices are kind of high (specially on the wine menu), but at the end it was great. So the restaurant could win a lot by restoring the old ambience, but the food is excellent! So next time I will go to the place downtown, because it all about the food people.... Franz Pros: Best Fish in Town, Great Wine Menu Cons: Little Overpriced, No Parking, Very Crowded more

Eddie V rocked us. 3/15/2003

There has been a lot of Eddie V bashing lately, so we were a bit reluctant. But we loved their happy hour and recently received a gift certificate so why not? All I can say is I'm glad we did. It was a packed Saturday night but the service ws not compromised in the least. Our waiter was excellent offering us tastes of wines by the glass and confidently pointing us towards (and away from) our choices in wine, salad, entree, and dessert. What can I say he was right on every time. The warmed goat cheese salad was excellent. Steamed sea bass in ginger soy sauce and breaded fish in lemon butter w/ lump crab were great. And the warmed gooey Godiva chocolate cake was among the best ever. Maybe we got lucky or the stars were aligned... or maybe others were unlucky, but I'd highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: menu, service, ambience Cons: cost more

What's going on? 2/18/2003

Something is going on at what used to be one of Austin's best resturant. Last Friday night the service really sucked. Some very un-professional waiter botched up the entire evening, on Valentine's day no less. Too bas cause the foos was very good. Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Horrible 1/13/2003

Ok if you want Sysco premade food and want to pay out the nose for it and want to dine around a bunch of people who have no appreciation for the art of cuisine, then this is the place for you. Pros: Drinks, You'll, Need Em Cons: Food, Servers, Clients more

Trulux is far better!! 11/12/2002

Service was slow. Too expensive for what you get. Sauces over power the food as opposed to compliment it. $23.95 for 5 shrimp and no sides (need I say more?) The food, service and value is far superior at Trulux. I would recommend that you go there for a GREAT seafood meal. Pros: Quiet, They call you by name, Fair wine list Cons: Small portions, Expensive, Overpowering sauces more

Never disappoints 10/8/2002

I had dinner again at Eddie V's with my wife and some friends last week and again the food and service was nothing short of great. It's so refreshing to patronize a resturant over and over and the expectations are always met. Pros: Excellent food, Excellent service, Excellent bar more

Good restaurant but little expensive 9/12/2002

I recently went there after being recommended by my friend who calls himself a ""seafood lover"". Although I made a reservation, I was not seated promptly, so that was disappointing. I really didn't like their sofa-seat tables. I didn't have enough space to move there. Our table had a nice waiter. Menu had a variety and special sounded yummy! There were good and bad dishes. I really liked Tuna with soy and ginger appetizer dish. That was just wonderful. On the other side, seafood bisque was not impressive at all. Side dishes were decent. Also, deserts were little too sweat for me. Pros: Wine List, Professional Cons: Expensive, Parking more

Ripped Off! 9/12/2002

Great atmosphere and very good service for below average meals at very high prices. Poor value. I had a business lunch, happy hour party, and Saturday evening dinner. Service was always good, but poor quality food presented beautifully. Pros: Ambience, Service, Wine Cons: FOOD QUALITY, Entree Portions, Cost $$$$$$$$$$ more

When you want your lady treated special. 8/17/2002

What a night! The food, the wine list, the service, outstanding! The valet parking is a plus when dining down town. Definitely, the place to go when you want to impress a date. A great dining experience...I'll be going back, soon! Pros: Excellent Service, Outstanding menu, Outstanding Wine list more

I must be missing something 8/2/2002

After reading all of the other reviews here, I can't help but feel that I'm missing something. My wife and I have eaten here (downtown) with friends 3 times in the last 6 months. The food is good, the decor is fine, and the service doesn't suck, however, there is nothing that just blows me away (e.g. would rate a 10). I was also put off by the grossly overpriced wine list (except for the half of Ridge Monte Bello which was a great deal) and the noise level. Too many other choices with better food and service to rate this as highly as everyone else seems to be. more

Call and Book a Table 7/24/2002

Make a reservation first, or you won't get any chance to try many different good FISH steaks here. For some of you who like light steak, you will love Eddie V's. Try the Sea Bass Hong Kong style and their appertizer sampler. Their dessert are nice too. Parking lot is crazy here.. Pros: Nice Place, Good Food Cons: Crowded more

Best I've Had 7/20/2002

For my money, Eddie V's is the best i've had. In fact I have become so fond of their 12oz filet mignon, lobster bisque, stupendous crab claws (although i will admit that i was disappointed when they replaced the stone crab claws with the jonas claws) sumptious oysters, hong kong style sea bass and impeccable wine selection that i now visit weekly. Not only is the food amazing, but as a frequent diner both for company and personal affairs, Eddie V's has become a home away from home with fantastic waiters who know your name and truly understand the rules of fine dining. Pros: Food & Wine Selection, Service, Atmosphere more

Awesome 6/16/2002

When they say fresh seafood, they mean FRESH seafood. The food was incredible and very filling. Even though the atmosphere was somewhat ""manly,"" I would definitely recommend this place to couples looking for a romantic place to dine. Pros: fresh food, delicious desserts, hearty sides Cons: bad parking more

Excellent Happy Hour 5/19/2002

This is the place to go for happy hour if you're looking for a great atmosphere and wonderful appetizers. Eddie V's offers great happy hour 1/2 price appetizers so if you're not looking for a full dinner this is the way to go! more
