The best of the Best....I love this place...

Worst

Service was slow. Too expensive for what you get. Sauces over power the food as opposed to compliment it. $23.95 for 5 shrimp and no sides (need I say more?) The food, service...

We loved it! Best seafood ever! We may be too spoiled now to ever eat ""chain"" seafood again. 9/11/2007

We had the Ahi Tuna steak & the roasted Halibut along with the jumbo scallop appetizer, corn & crab chowder, creamed spinach with garlic, and Brabant potatoes. Pros: Delicious food, great service Cons: Valet parking only and LOUD band more

Good seafood, but too noisy and overcrowded 6/11/2007

My wife and I had dinner reservations on a Wednesday night (5/30) and upon arrival we were ushered to the overcrowded and noisy Lounge area. We opted to wait a few minutes to be seated in the main dining area which was only slightly less crowded and just as noisy. Our waiter was knowledgeable, prompt and sympathetic to the fact that we were given a tiny table wedged between a fire exit and two other larger tables. In fact, we were so close to an adjacent table that when a gentleman next to us spilled his water most of it landed on our table. Additionally, our section manager asked the dining parties to our left and right about their dining experience but completely ignored us. We had oyster for appetizers which were fresh and medium size. We both had the trout for our entrees. The serving size was generous and the food was fresh. The dessert menu lacked key lime pie, so opted for fresh mixed berries. We had a half bottle of chardonnay. When we were finally able to flag down an alternate manager, he did confess that we were seated at a poor table and explained that the manager who previously ignored us was new on the job. The later manager did comp our entrees (despite our objections for him no to) and he sincerely apologized. Even with that, the noise, overcrowded atmosphere and slightly above average seafood is enough to steer us away from Eddie V's in the future. Pros: Fresh seafood, Proximity to downtown nightlife Cons: Noisy, Overcorwded, No key lime pie more

Wonderful friendly waitstaff, great seafood 5/20/2007

I was utterly amazed at how friendly and attentive (without being too much so) our waitstaff was when my boyfriend and i went to Eddie V's Downtown. We had never been there before, but we were both highly impressed. The food was delicious and plentiful, *huge* cuts of fish for our entree, and the special appetizer, a soft shell tempura crab was heavenly. The tempura was more like a lighter fish batter, rather than true tempura, but it was still very good. The best thing was the bread pudding ""souffle"" that was gigantic and absoltuely, hands down, one of the best deserts I've ever had. It's extremely heavy, we didn't finish but half of it, but it was amazing. Again, the waitstaff were friendly, curtious and always addressed us by name when we spoke. We also had many staff come buy and visit our table to make sure everything was to our liking, including managerial staff. Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it. Pros: excellent waitstaff and managers Cons: can be a bit packed and noisy at times more

Your reservations may not matter here 4/28/2007

My husband and I went to Eddie V's and were told to make reservations for the Lounge. Well, we did and when we got there they could not accomodate us. They first told us they had a table close to the band and would we like to see it but as they were taking us back we were told that another party had the table. We were then given the option to wait or eat in the dining room. We thought this was a little class ""less"" for such a ""classy"" upscale restaurant. The dining room was very noisy. Our server was knowledgeable but beyond him we were not impressed. By the time we got to order we didn't have the appetite to splurge on the main entrees but we tried the crab cakes. They were good but again not enough for me to go back. Pros: knowledgeable servers Cons: parking, ambience, not keeping reservations more

Wrong Location Reviewed 2/28/2007

The review I wrote regarding the double charge to our credit card was for the Eddie V's ARBORETUM location. Sorry for the confusion. more

Great ambiance. Fresh seafood. Great happy hour. 2/22/2007

Similar to my other review of another seafood place, the happy hour deal here is great. Parking is very tough being so close to the hip and happening areas. I prefer to eat at the location in the Arboretum sometimes to avoid the parking problems. Valet is preferred here. If you have a very nice car and pay a bit extra, they park it right up front so you can keep an eye on it and know it's not being dinged in some garage. Pros: Great date place/high end dining. Cons: garage parking. expensive valet parking (to park up front). more

BEST Crab Cake Ever! 10/29/2006

My husband and I went to Eddie V's for our Anniversary and we can not wait to go again! Pros: Parking, food, service more

Amazing Seafood 10/6/2006

For my boyfriends birthday we went to Eddie V's and absolutly loved it. I had the Parmesan Crusted Lemon Sole (one of the best seafood dishes I have ever had) and my boyfriend had the Halibut special. The food was great, the service was great, and a great wine list. I would defanitly recommend to anyone. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: Price more

Eddie V's does it again!! 9/13/2006

Amazing dinner last night. The special, Blue Marlin, was excellent. My wife had the lemon/brown butter snapper. She actually cleaned her plate. Only suggestion. When I made the reservations they asked if we were celebrating. I told them it was our 20th anniversary. Not a mention of it all night. If you take the time to ask, follow thru... Once again a Great Dinner. We will be back. more

What a class act! 7/23/2006

My wife and I went to Eddie V's last night and it was a class act from beginning to end. The broiled oysters with spinach/artichoke fondue were a great way to start (paired with a couple of the best maritinis we've had in town), and the waiter made great wine suggestion to go with our entrees. It's the little details, like chilled martini glasses, hot bread, attentive service and great music, that has us jonesing already for our next trip back. more

Eddie V's aims to please 3/30/2006

Took my wife there for our anniversary last year. Upon walking in, the hostess asks me if we are there for a special occasion. They took care of us the whole time. Excellent service, food, wine, and atmosphere. It's pricey, but absolutely worth it. I'll definitely be back soon. Unquestionably the best all around dining experience we've had in Austin over our seven years of residence here. You can't go wrong there if you want an outstanding experience. We still talk about it and it's been a year later. Pros: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

Eddie V's will not let you down 9/28/2005

Eddie V's is the best restaurant in Austin - hands down. Don't get me wrong, you will spend a good amount of money while you dine here, but it is always worth every penny. The wait staff are very knowledgeable, the dishes are spectacular, and you can't beat the ambience. It is a great place for a group to go and dine or to have a romantic dinner. My wife and I love this place. Pros: Atmosphere, Unbelievable Food, Service Cons: Expensive more

Great happy hour 7/5/2005

This place has a great happy hour. I absolutely love their warm goat cheese salad. It is delicious. I would recommend checking this place out with some friends for a cheap drink and appetizer. Pros: happy hour Cons: bad service, parking more

Some of the best service we ever had. 6/14/2005

This place is exceptional in it's quality of food. The Baked Oysers with Jalepeno Hollandaise is awesome. the service was fantastic. the fact that they had Chimay to go with the meal - Superb! Pros: seafood, steak, Chimay Cons: none, none, none more

Fabulous Seafood! 6/12/2005

The food at Eddie V's is outstanding! I am an extremely picky eater and I tend to ""adjust"" all my meals (sauces tend to be too creamy and veggies are too white). However, when I go to Eddie V's, I feel like I get what I want and if I am not sure, the waiters are always extremely knowledgable and excellent at explaining each dish. Their wine selection is excellent too! Pros: Healthy, Fresh, Good atmosphere more

Not worth it 4/17/2005

If pricy menu, tiny portions, average taste and noisy environment are your favorites, you will enjoy Eddie V's Arboretum location. I recently had dinner there. It was very difficult to hear each other without shouting. My shrimp plate had 4 medium size shrimps and my friend had 4 average size scallops. Both were $20 main dishes without vegetables or potato/rice. Luckily we ordered a few side dishes and desserts so we were not that hungry at the end of dinner. Pros: NW location, Friendly service, No waiting Cons: Parking, Noisy, Tiny portion more

Very Poor Value 9/26/2004

I have eaten at the Austin Arboretum location several times and have been pleased with the food. The most recent time, I sat in the bar and ordered the seafood salad, which was supposed to include lumb crabmeat, shrimp, and scallops in addition to the other salad ingredients. I was very disappointed. First, there was one shrimp, cut in two pieces, on my plate. Second, there were three scallops. One was medium-sized, and the other two were very, very small. Lastly, there was no crabmeat at all in my salad. When I pointed out this omission to the server, she brought me a small serving of crabmeat. The amount of shrimp and scallops and crabmeat were, in my opinion, very insufficient for the price of the salad, which was around $14. This experience has caused me to have serious reservations about this restaurant. I doubt that I will return. more

No longer up to par! 7/15/2004

We have been to Eddie V's often in the past, but this was our first visit in about a year. This place is no longer what it used to be, the food has gone downhill. I would recommend going to Trulucks The colossal stuffed shrimp have no flavor and are comparable to Red Lobster only it is $25.00 for four at Eddie V's. The bacon wrapped scallops, while being prepared well, are small about the size of a half dollar, and four is not filling especially since your meal doesn't come with sides you have to pay extra for those. We will not be going back since we had our meal with appetizers and were still hungry. The waiter was polite and took the charge for the shrimp off the ticket since they were not edible. But overall not worth the money!!!!!!!!! Pros: Service, Desserts Cons: , Meal size more
