Best Kept Secret Gem - Ecofina Creek Canoe Livery! 10/28/2010

WOW!\r We have been coming to Panama City Beach since the 80's, and today we finally tried Ecofina. This is the best kept secret of the beach! What a GEM! We have never used a kayak before, and now I want to buy one! There is no need to snorkel, because all you have to do is look down into the crystal clear waters and marvel at the fish and turtles and bubbling springs you will see. I can't wait to go back with my grandchildren in April, when we all meet to celebrate their spring breaks. A young gentleman named "MIke" was waiting for us at the take out point, and delivered us safely back to our car. I recommend calling in advance for reservations, as you will be given explicit directions and a time estimate. It took us 45 minutes to get there from our condo on the beach. Our kayak adventure lasted around 5 hours, for $40 (we had a $5 off coupon!), and was well worth it more

Econfina Creek 10/3/2010

My husband & I spent a wonderful Thursday on the Econfina Creek. When we checked in with the livery service, we were greeted by a very friendly and informative young man. This was the same young man who picked us up at the end of our trip. At far as the livery service, we were told where the springs were located but a small brochure would have been very helpful. This is only suggestion I would give them. Everything else with the service was wonderful.\r \r We found the springs to be beyond our expectations. Just when we thought there were no more springs, there were more surfacing from the rock formations showing the most beautiful clear blue tropical-like water. We also felt like explorers because we found some very small springs trickling out of rock in side shoots off the river, just a short paddle in from the river. \r \r Our trip on the Econfina Creek and with the Econfina Creek Canoe Livery was an exceptionally positive experience and we would recommend this trip and the Liver more

Simply Therapeutic! 4/7/2010

Wonderful. I had memories as a child from Econfina, my aunt took me there when I came to stay with her for a while in the summer. My childhood memories were great of econfina, but even better now that I have been as an adult. My boyfriend and I went there yesterday, which is in early April. It was perfect. So quiet and secluded. The weather was so pleaent and the creek is shaded well. The springs are beautiful, and the plants and trees along the creek are even more beautiful. My boyfriend and I live in Destin, so we wanted to get away from all of the tourist and traffic and people in general so this was the perfect place. there was a couple of different groups on the creek that we would pass, then take a break, and they would pass us, and so on. If you paddle around the creek or a bend you have it all to yourself again. I can't say that it would be that secluded on a summer day, or holiday weekend but it was yesterday. On top of the beauty, seclusion, and utter silence of th more

Had a BLAST " thanks for the good time" 4/1/2010

Its totally worth every penny spent and more. Our group had fun from the time we got there till the time we left. The water was so clear you can watch the fish swim as you go downstream. You can sit in the warm water of the springs. Take a pic nic there are great places to stop and enjoy the scene. It takes about 4 hours to make the trip without really working out. There were other familys with toddler children that seemed to be having alot of fun.We chose perfect day to go " Not hot, Not cold " The owner was sick but was there for our reservations and they had their son" I believe " to pick up. He was a perfect gentleman and did turn up the radio for us when he noticed we were singing along. If your a person looking for an adventure this trip is awesome. You get out of it what you put in it !!! If your worried about messing up your nails you should probably stay at the hotel . more

Econfina Creek Canoe Livery is a ripoff !!! 7/13/2009

Absolutey a ripoff !!All the guy at the counter had to say to us was how much it cost.No directions except dont pass the second bridge.we had a 18 month old child with when asked if it would be safe for the child he said sure. They dont tell you of the difficulty to navigate this creek.Trees everywhere.stumps underwater that can turn a canoe over twice i know. They say clear water not!!It was so bad my sister got off the canoe at pitt spring because of danger to turning canoe over on 18 month old son. They walked back up the road to ecofina and was passed by the same guy we paid for the trip going to pickup canoes. The didnt offer a ride or even stop. When he got back they told him what happened and all he wanted to know was how they got there. No i am sorry or nothing.this trip was an absolute joke. This was supposed to be a family run business,i hope they treat their family better. When the guy picks you up he doesnt even ask if you enjoyed it.He just turns up the radio and hurries back to t more

Local's Reveiw 9/23/2008

As a Panama City native and someone who has made the trip a couple dozen times I have a few tips to help you enjoy the trip. The livery opens at 8:30 and the 7 mile trip can be made in roughly 4 hours. You don't have to paddle the whole way, the current can carry you and you can still make it in less than 6 hours without making any stops. That being said, the last pickup is at 6 (roughly 10 hours after they first open.) There are a couple absolutely clear springs, some of which are tucked off to the side and require some exploring. However, all of these springs are in the first 2 - 2 and a half miles or so. So in my experience the best thing to do is get there early and allow yourself time (a couple hours) to park at one of these springs and go snorkeling or exploring in one of the limestone caves. After 2 miles or so (1 mile past the highway 20 bridge) the water becomes much less clear and there really isn't anywhere to comfortably stop with the exception of one bank I recommend stopp more

Wonderful way to spend an afternoon with friends 9/1/2008

This was the first time for my husband and I to go canoeing. We had been invited by our wonderful friends. We are both in our 50's and wondered if we could handle the 7.5 mile trip. Not only were we able to handle it but we had a great time. We were very sore by the end of the trip, but we were laughing. The springs are beautiful and a great way to refresh yourself on a hot summer day. I can not remember the last time that we had laughed so hard and so much at each others canoeing talents, even when we dumped the canoe over. We had taken a cooler with our lunch and stoped along the way at one of the springs to swim and relaxed. The cost of the days adventure was a great bargain. We felt that we had gotten our monies worth of fun and education on an area that we were not familiar. The only suggestion that we had was that we would have loved to have had a map of the creek and a little brochure with the history of the creek to read along the way.We would highly recommend this adventure to e more

Econfina 2/23/2006

This is a beautiful place to spend a weekend afternoon with friends or family! The water is freezing cold, so I don't usually go in, but it's fun to sit and watch the others frollicking in the springs. The water is clear near the springs, with less visibility as you canoe down the creek. We usually take a cooler with lunch and stop along the way to pic nic in the canoe under the shade of the trees hanging over the creek. There's not really a place to stop and eat on the shore, so we enjoy eating in our canoe. it's fun with a group if you don't have a schedule to keep and make sure you have plenty to eat and drink. There's private property along the creek, so don't plan on stopping to explore along the way. I have to admit, I got a little scared along the way when we were the only boats, but any detour you take will lead out to the main creek immediately. There's an area at the end where the van will pick you up and take you back to the beginning, but I'd recommend dropping a ve more
