I was shocked that they demanded my FULL deductible. I told them that I had already been seen by someone else and that my insurance would be applying that visit to my deductible. ...

I feel that she is generally well-informed and a good doctor. I've found her staff to be extremely helpful and kind. You don't have to wait FOREVER to get an appointment with her. She agreed to do a number of tests for me that are not the norm, to put my mind at ease. more

I was referred to this doctor by a relative after being in another health care system. My original health care system was associated with a University, where I was told mis-information numerous times. In the old system, I went in for fibroids and ovarian cysts. An IUD was recommended and during the procedure to address the fibroids the IUD was supposed to be placed. When went to the doctors pre-op, I was told which doctor who would be doing the survey; however, the day of surgery, I was informed that the doctor was just going to observe and a resident would be doing the actual survey. It felt like the old bail and switch, but I was already there and ready, so I went ahead. BIG MISTAKE! Not only did they have problems with the fibroids, they put a hole in my uterus (claimed very small, so the doctor - not resident!). Everything I read indicated they would not place an IUD if there was a hole, but these people did anyway. Therefore, by the time I was finished with my old health care system, I had 3 problems instead of just two (IUD in abdomen). Their solution- hysterectomy (as symptom control). Conversely, at Dr. Gentry's offie, I found a caring, knowledgable, and professional doctor, who understood my concerns. At this office, I did not have to worry if she was going to be the one doing the actually surgery. She gave me time to make a decision considering my options and never did she mention that my best plan of action was a hysterectomy. The day of surgery, I felt confident that my problems would be taken care of. After surgery (my surgery option only required a 1 night stay in a hospital and 2 weeks off), she visited my in the hospital. I actually found out that the IUD had not migrated to my abdomen but in fact was in my cervix, because the old doctor had made another pathway and missed my uterus entirely. Since the surgery, my symptoms have gone away and I thankful for this doctor's help. more

I was referred to Dr. Gentry by my primary doctor for a medical procedure I needed done. I just had outpatient surgery a week ago, and Dr. Gentry was great. Every thing went well, she called me the next day to see how I was doing and left a warm message. When I went to see Dr. Gentry for my initial appointment she was great. She listened to me, but the most important thing for me was she heard what I was saying and made her suggestion regarding what I should have done. And boy was I happy!!! ( I gave her a hug!) I've read the other reviews about waiting for an hour. Yes, when you go into the doctor's office you would like to be seen in a timely matter. I have waited for a long period of time myself, however I already know it's going to be a wait so I just settle on in. The nice thing is when you finally see the doctor she is not rushing with you and she is taking her time and being very thorough. So, I don't know what to tell ya!!! Dr. Gentry is a great doctor and I would recommend her for your female medical needs. more

I always feel like the doctors care about women, probably because they are women. I do think it is important that a doctor is personable, and approachable when you are dealing with gynecology, because it's dreadfully embarrassing. more

I was a patient of Dr. Gentry's between March-September 2004 and she is an EXCELLENT surgeon. I had to have a hysterectomy as huge fibroid tumors had totally destroyed my uterus which in turn was destroying my kidneys. Dr. Gentry explained every aspect of the surgery and promised to give me the newest ""state of the art"" hysterectomy. I will not go into detail on what that is but when she desribed the ""older"" method surgeons used on women in the past I was thoroughly grateful that the surgical method had been vastly improved. I guess in the ""old days"" which weren't that long ago, the surgery practically turned women into eunuchs. At least that what it sounded like. The surgery went smoothly and over 5 years later I have had no ill effects. Dr. Gentry is such a phenomenal surgeon that she was able to remove the tumors through a very small incision in the pubic area despite the huge size of the fibroids. How she was able to do that I will NEVER know. I am not a bikini model but I love the fact that the scar is hidden from view. more

Dr. G has gone green. They are on a paperless medical record system which is a plus especially when considering the environment. This system cuts back on wait times and really gives the doctor a greater view of the patient before she even see's you. more

I found a lump in my breast. Both of my parents have agressive cancer so I overreacted and panicked. She got me right in, was cautious, made me feel sane for reacting to scar tissue. She got me into a biopsy and of course all was just fine but her professionalism, intelligence and confidence always made me feel all was going to be fine- even if there was something more! I trust her completely! more

Dr. Gentry is fantastic. I discovered her a few years ago when I was dealing with a girly medical issue - long story short, she was amazing in dealing with a scary problem. She spends lots of time with her patients and is great with questions. I had outpatient surgery and have been fine ever since! She's definitely a popular doctor, so call early to make an appointment. Dr. Chan (the other OB-GYN in her practice) is also fantastic, so see her if you can't get in to Dr. Gentry. Five stars! more

I heard about Dr. Gentry when we first moved to Oakland from SF & wanted to start trying for our first baby! I loved her at first meeting- smart, organized & funny. We were lucky & got pregnant easily & had a smooth pregnancy. My husband & I looked forward to every appt. She delivered our first baby at Summit six years ago- she made delvery smooth & I knew we were in amazing hands! Two years later, we delivered our second child & had to go to Alta Bates- the only person who knew what she was doing & was terrific was Dr. Gentry. She always listened to me and responded- more than I can say about any of the nurses at Alta Bates. She had to be in an emergency birth two rooms down when my son came out. No she couldn't deliver my son, but she kept checking in, makng sure we were ok. She was so apologetic yet we knew she had to make an important choice and she never missed a beat! My two kids are 3 & 6 & thriving. more
