Great Job, Exactly What I Wanted! 11/1/2012

Walked in with order for twelve custom cut pieces of 3/4 inch plywood, walked out with exactly what I ordered within a half hour for the totally reasonable price of $35. No attitudes, no trouble. Ignore the very complaint ridden review you see here. This place does a great job. more

We love Durst! 4/24/2011

As odd as it may seem, my wife and I look forward to going to this store due to its superior customer service and its wonderful ""home-town"" appeal (as well as its great popcorn [you won't get that at Home Depot!]). more

Why go elsewhere? 9/5/2010

I have been going there 13 years on numerous projects and never had a bad experience. The people have always been expert and courteous. I go here instead of Home Depot most of the time because I can get help immediately and I don't have to load and push heavy objects all around a big store. The trip is half the time and half the effort and aggravation. As for cutting, when I was making a bookcase, they cut up 16 shelves expertly and without a complaint, saving me even more time. more

30 years of great service AND good prices 7/25/2010

I don't usually join organizations like Citysearch or spend time actually commenting about a company; but the over-the-top criticism I saw of Durst on this site compels me to write. That review illustrates how two people, one bad employee and one out-of-control complainer can trash a company's reputation -- totally unfairly. Here's my take on Durst: In the 30 plus years I have lived in Berkley, I have gone to Durst more times than I can count, frequently with problems and questions. In every situation I can recall, the person I asked for help, treated every question, even the dumb ones, with courtesy and respect, presented me with whatever options were appropriate for my particular need; and, when required, walked with me to the spot where I could find what I needed. I got the same treatment when my needs included a trip to the lumber yard. What I find particularly satisfying is the fact that the employees I have never seen before and, presumably are new, show the same knowledge and respect as the older hands. Durst is one fine organization and I am grateful for its long presence in our town. Pros: knowledgable, helpful people, good prices Cons: some prices are a bit higher than home depot's more

Knowledgable & Experienced 7/3/2010

Been providing great service for several years since I moved here. Very VERY knowledgable staff, screen & window repair service. Great plumbing guidance from people who have done the jobs. 2nd to none. more

Worst and Belligerent Service!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/28/2010

The worst experience ever. Rude and poor customer service from one employee. He got in my face to complain to me about me complaining to people in the office about the poor service on cutting my wood order. I dropped off the order to him at 11:30am (he told me about an hour) it wasn't done until 3pm. When I got there to pick up my order, he got in my face and tried to tell me I was lucky that he was good enough to cut my order for me and next time he would charge for the cuts. Charging for straight cuts??? Even Home Depot does that for free. That is where I should have gone to in the first place. The stress, and attitude was not good. Not to mention he blew my whole afternoon to get my deck ready for Memorial Day. Bottom line, if you need wood cut to order, go somewhere else. But, if you like stress and rude people and want to get in a fight, go here. I reluctantly gave one star because it is default and cannot give NONE. more

Worst Service Ever!!!!!!!!!!! 5/27/2010

Continue from before. After, I voiced my discontent with their service I called them back in about 15 minutes and was informed that the order is ready for pickup. When I arrived there, one of the guys (Mike) in the yard, was very helpful in helping me load the order. Then the guy I dropped the order off to in the morning and with whom I had the phone conversation with approached me to complain to me that I complained to people in the office about his slow service. I just walked away and went back to help load up my order. He then approached me again, at which time I told him to back off and I didn't want to speak with him and was busy loading up to get to working on my deck. He then got in my face and told me that I wasn't charged for those cuts, and next time... there will be no free cuts. It took everyything in me to keep calm and not push him away, which probably would have started a scuffle or fight. NOT GOOD. I kept calm, and walked back into the hardware store to speak to a manager. The manager offerred his appologies and said that should not have happenned. He asked if there was anything he could do to make up for his employee. I was steaming mad and there was nothing short of that kid getting fired that would have made everything okay. But, we are in Michigan and I didn't want for anyone to lose their job and just kept quite and told the manager it 's all okay and nothing. Imust admit the wood was good and the cuts were proper. But, I can get this at home depot too without the rude in your face attitude from a rude kid. I'm sure it was just my bad luck for my bad encounter with this poorly trained employee on customer service. He acted like I should be greatful to be his customer. Even though the product was good and the rest of the employees were good, I doNOT recommend this place unless you want allot of stress and rude service. Pros: Good selection of wood cuts Cons: Slow, poor and RUDE SERVICE. more

A great local hardware store 9/3/2005

There aren't many non-big box hardware stores any more and this one is an example of why some still exist. They have a good selection with good service, as well as a lumber yard. Recommended. more

Durst's Ace Hardware is best... 6/6/2005

Talk about your helpful hardware men... The Durst family has run this hardware store for many years. The residents of the Berkley / Huntington Woods are know this hardware store. They also have lumber and other items that a run of the mill "hardware store" doesn't. The staff is the most knowledgable around. Always ready to help you find what you're looking for or help you plan your project, they know what to do. PROS: Great prices. Helpful staff. Wide selection. CONS: more
