The receptionist is rude...there's no reason to keep people from knowing where they stand. There were four people in the waiting room and after two hours of waiting without any word...we're still here. If you hold contempt towards people that get sudden illness on the weekend, quit accepting walk-ins or hire a staff that doesn't resent walk-ins. Nobody wants to be here...no need to make the experience worse. more

Worst doctor office in Lawrence, KS 5/14/2010

I took my daughter than because of an infection. She is not potty trained but the Dr wanted me to get her to pee in a cup. I told her she is still in diapers and she told me to take the cup home and work on it. UMMM she can't pee in the potty yet, so how is she going to pee in the cup??? Cons: the doctors that work there more

Billing Hell - FALSE Advertisers 5/20/2009

Our insurance covers "Urgent Care" visits. We were visiting Lawrence when my wife got sick. We looked up "Urgent Care" places and chose this facility.\r \r Later, we received a bill from them for the visit. When asked why they didn't bill our insurance, they said, "We bill as a family Doctor, not an Urgent Care..." and "Your visit was treated as a walk-in for the family practice..."\r \r UGH! Why do they advertise as an urgent care facility if they don't intend to follow the industry standards as one? (Billing included).\r \r Now we have a fight with our insurance on our hands too.\r \r All this trouble for a few days worth of antibiotics. As far as I'm concerned... they are False Advertisers (aka Liars). more

The important things are good 4/21/2009

I've been there three times. Last time I waited 3 1/2 hours to see a Dr., and almost passed out in the waiting room. The clerical staff are definitely NOT into customer service, and have zero empathy for sick people. Fill out redundant forms when you can barely sit. But the nurses listen, and pay attention, and the Doctors do also. Never my favorite, but much more cost-effective than an ER visit. more

DR.Ramberg 8/22/2008

I have a very high opinion of Dr. Ramberg. I took my boyfriend to see him when 2 other doctors did not find out what was wrong. He walked into the exam room an saw the problem immediately. He was bleeding internally and Dr. Ramberg sent him straight to the ER at the hospital. HE SAVED HIS LIVE! Thank God for Dr.Ramberg! more

Very Thorough 5/7/2008

I have been going to First Med for a year now, which means I have been there about 4-6 times. Each time has been a pleasant and almost easy experience. Even when I have had to "walk-in" I have not had to wait long in the waiting room or back in the room for the doc. For my last visit, I was 45 minutes late for my appointment and they got me right in. I have seen 4 different doctors and Dr. Dunlap is by far the best. He is very thorough. He is not in a hurry to get out the door and is willing to listen to your suggestions and not become offended and he doesn't make you feel like you're an idiot for saying them. He is also young and seems up to date on his research. \r \r So, if you are going to go to First Med I suggest you call ahead of time (1 to 2 days) and request Dunlap. And if you do have to walk-in it's really not so bad either. They will do what's necessary, just might not go above and beyond. more

Exactly what was needed 4/30/2008

It's walk-in health care. You don't have to wait 60 days. You don't have to get on some list. You walk in. They do what they do.\r \r I have been to First Med several times and I have seen several doctors. They are all knowledgeable and experienced. They do not try to BS you. They are not going to cure your massively complicated disease. They are not going to perform office surgery on you. \r \r It is walk-in health care. Anybody who complains would probably complain no matter what. more

Very nice staff 3/10/2008

I came in with a sprained ankle, walk in and was totally finished within 2 hours. Very kind, caring staff. I got right in. Office is very clean and up-to-date. more

Unhappy with service 1/17/2008

the doctor reassured me that they can be my health care provider. i went in and got a refill but my presciption had ran out and needed a quick refill they will not fax a prescription to my pharmarcy. i am looking for a new health care provider. i guess they only serve urgent care patients. i had made a reservation for my appointment but i am still treated as urgent care. i now realize i need a family care facility, not urgent care. more

Worst place in all of Lawrence 9/26/2007

Terrible clinic. Terrible service. Dr. Ramberg is the worst, but no one there really cares too much about the patients. They are more concerned with pushing drugs than anything else. If you are a female, they tend to always think your problems are mental. After having a female wellness exam there by Nancy (supposedly their female expert), I went home and looked up some info after not agreeing with what she said, only to find out that she was COMPLETELY wrong. When I told them via phone (after I had to call to get test results because they only want you to come pay for another office visit to give you test results - even though you've already paid for the darned tests) that I was going to seek an opinion from an OBGYN instead of a nurse, I was then sent a letter saying that I could no longer see any doctors at their clinic. Nancy is the wife of the owner, so if she isn't happy, you're banned. Since my experience, I have spoken to many people that went there once or twice and wou more

Very Unsatisfactory 8/7/2007

Although the doctor was good when I finally saw him, trying to get the appointment was an ordeal. The phone is invariably answered with "Can you hold?" and I hung up several times after being left on hold for around 5 minutes. Then, when I did manage to schedule an appointment (nearly two weeks out from when I called) and got to see the doctor it was some 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. \r \r Finally, as a result of my appointment I got some tests done at the hospital, but I again had to go through the whole "Can you hold?" routine just to get my results. No one bothered to contact me to go over the results with me, there was no doctor available to interpret them, and all the person I could speak with could do was mail me the results and tell me that I could schedule another appointment if I wished to discuss them.\r \r I will schedule an appointment, but with a different provider. more

Walk in service 7/3/2007

I went to First Med today and was seen pretty quickly and was treated very good. I will defiantly be going back. Doctors were very knowledgeable and nice. A+++ more

Quick response, helpful doctor, cost effective 6/20/2007

I went to this clinic on a Saturday because of a severe case of gastroenteritus and my regular doctor's office is closed that day. The staff was quick to get me in even though there were a lot of other walk-ins especially for a Saturday. The doctor was friendly and prompt and went over all my symptoms and gave me some suggestions for treatment. He weighed several options with me and made sure that I understood each one. He also said that he is not one to suggest expensive treatment and likes to help the patients find more cost effective treatments. My bill was 40% less than what I pay my regular doctor. I have been back several times to this clinic and have no complaints. I would recommend them again. more

I won't return 9/14/2006

They always answer the phone with "Can you please hold". They are a bit slow at the desk. I was able to get an appointment within a few days. I saw Dr. S. Ramberg. I went to him with anxiety, nausea, depression, etc., and he suggested vitamins (which I already take) and hiring a babysitter, without performing any kind of tests or screening, or discussing anti-depressants or counseling. This was not a question of insurance or money, as we have excellent coverage. Very poor in my opinion. more
