Heard there was a new owner so I thought I'd give it another shot. 2/11/2008

Doughboys has taken a 180! I went there a few times back before the new owner took over and man it was horrible. The pizza was great but the service was terrible. Rob, the old owner was very rude and seemed he could care less if me and my family starved. \r Now however, things have completely changed. Hector the new owner was very cordial. He came over and talked to us while we were waiting on our pizza, and kept us in stitches! I could see that they have bought alot of new equipment where the pizza makers work (makes it look so much cleaner). And they also added a TV to the restaurant. The pizza came out right after our appetizers and it was great! Steaming hot toppings and gooey cheese! This is what I used to love about Doughboys! Keep up the good work!!! Pros: Pizza doesn't get any better than this! more

growing pains 12/9/2007

seems doughboy has a new owner, also seems it has the same ole dirty disgusting workers. since the old owner left one would think his employees would have gone with. talk about lazy, sheesh! if this is the future of the world, let me off now!!!! \r i talked to the new owner and he said, he is working on new people since you can't teach an old dog new tricks. patients he tells me, growing pains are sometimes tough to deal with. the pizza is still the best and cannot go wrong ordering that. take caution on the kitchen food. Pros: great pizza Cons: needs better workers more

Doughboy is Back!!!!! 11/21/2007

Doughboy is back!!! I recently visited Doughboy after the new owner took over. The pizza I ordered was just like it was when Doughboy originally opened. The service was fast and friendly. The new owner appeared friendly and hard working. The store was cleaner than I had ever seen. I have missed Doughboy, but I am glad to see it is back!!! Great place to take the family. Pros: The Best Tasting Pizza in Mobile is back! more

Don't waste your time! 11/9/2007

Ate here once on Sunday afternoon. There was one server for the entire restaurant. Waited quite a while for drinks and had to go get my own refill. Then on a Fri. evening at 7:30 I called to order and they informed me they were ""out of pizza for the night"". Again, this was 7:30 on a Friday night. We won't waste our time again. Pros: Pizza tastes good. Cons: When they have some in stock. more

I will NEVER return to Doughboy Pizza!!! 9/22/2007

This was my first & last experience with Doughboy Pizza. The place reeked. The owner was INSULTING to us! We had bought a book of coupons from our kids? school fundraiser. Their coupon stated that we would receive a sm 1-topping pizza with the purchase of a lg. I phoned ahead to place the order & was told that they had a sign in front of their store saying that they would not honor that coupon. There was no such sign. The owner said that we could get free sodas instead. I also asked about the faculty discount that they advertise at the U of South AL, & he acted put out to agree to that deal in place of the other coupon. So I said OK & ordered only the 1 lg pizza & the free drinks. He then said, ?NO, you get the free drinks only if you pay for BOTH pizzas!? We mistakenly went ahead & ordered only the 1 pizza. \r \r When we sat down, we asked if they had free refills. The waitress said that they did, so we ordered 4 sm sodas. She later charged us for large drinks. When I asked about this, the owner sighed very loudly & said that they give free refills only on lg drinks. I pointed out that this policy was not disclosed to us in the beginning WHEN WE HAD ASKED. He reluctantly gave me the lower price, acting as if I were cheap for discussing a $2.80 price difference. \r \r We told our server that we were USA faculty & would like that discount if possible. She knew nothing about that & asked the owner about it, when he loudly made a rude comment about me. After the meal, our bill came w/o the discount. When asked about that, the owner acted as if this was the first he had heard of it & proceeded to give us a 5% discount. When we got home, I realized the faculty discount is 15%. I called him back to ask about this, & he told me that I was cheap & hung up on me.\r \r I have never been treated so rudely. This is a sm amt of $, but they need to market themselves accurately & not treat with blatant disdain people who ask for discounts as advertised. NEVER AGAIN, DOUGHBOY! Pros: OK pizza Cons: Horrible rude treatment, false advertising more

I would not recommended this place to anyone!!! 9/16/2007

Let me tell you about my experience with Doughboy pizza. I ordered our pizza at 4:15 on a Sunday. I was told it would be 45 mins.(delivery) An hour and a half later I called to find out if there was a problem, I was told that everyone was new and the pizza was just about to come out of the oven. I am very understanding and did not make a big deal about it, how ever I was a little upset that there was no sorry or we should have called you or anything. So we waited another forty-five mins and still no pizza! So we called back and was told that the pizza was in route. Half an hour goes by and the delivery guy calls and can't find our house. I gave him very simple directions and he couldn't find it! So I left my house with people there to go find him. Once I got there his card machine was not working so this took another tweenty mins of my time. (by the way he was sitting directly in front of our street) When I got back to my house we opened the pizza up and it was the worst looking pizza I have ever seen! Two pizza doughs thrown together and the middle was still doughy!!!!!!! Someone at my house ordered a meatball hero and it was bread and red sauce, nothing else!!!!! We used to love doughboy because at one point they had the best pizza around but we didn't want to risk getting sick so we threw out the last pizza we'll ever order from doughboy. We ordered pizza hut, it may be sub-par to what doughboy used to be but tonight pizza hut looks four star compared to doughboy. I think the worst part of this was when I called to complain. I could hear the manager in the back ground bad mouthing us and I over heard him instruct the girl answering the phone to just leave me on hold. This is hands down the worst customer service I have ever gotten! Pros: At this point nothing Cons: Bad food, bad customer service not worth the money, should I go on........ more

Can't make a consistently good pizza 9/11/2007

Went on 09-09-07 @ 7:20 PM, the owner was not on duty. We have had problems in the past, but the owner seemed to be working hard to address the issues. I order a large Pepperoni Pizza, and I wanted it done. I asked the young man to please repeat what my order, because I wanted him to KNOW I wanted it done. He did, said it would be right and be ready in 20 minutes.\r \r At about 7:50 the young man who took my order started asking around behind the counter. ""Dude, do you know where that guy's pizza is?"" They milled about for a few minutes and he went to the person slinging pies. They put a pie in the oven and about 10 minutes later they boxed a pizza. The young man told me my order was ready. I walked up and asked if it was done as I opened the box. He nodded yes. I picked up a slice and the cheese ran off of the pizza like cold ice down a steel slide on a hot summer playground. A pool of goo started to seep from the other pieces as the puddle grew in the center of the box. He just blanched. I asked him if this is what I ordered, and he said without a blink, ""No sir, but I can make another one in 20 minutes.""\r \r I asked for a refund and for the charge to be put back on my credit card. He said, ""I am going to give you cash because it is easier."" He then gave me $15.50; the charge was for $15.59. Now, I am not going to pitch a fit over $0.09 here, but I think that really hits to the root of the problem. The employees at Doughboy's would rather do what is easy than what is right. They would rather lie to a customer and hope they walk out the door than to take responsibility for their actions by making a quality product. They would rather goof off and have a good time amusing themselves then give a second thought about the customer?s time.\r \r A good restraunt is measured by its quality AND consistency. Getting a good pizza every now and again, or getting delivery on time occasionaly just does not cut it. It is truely a shame I will not be returning to Doughboy's. Pros: They Can Make a Quality Product Cons: They Can't Make a Quality Product Consistently more

UPDATE!!! Ordering a Pizza is like Drawing Straws 4/20/2007

4/20/07 Ordered at 4:52 pm and recieved pizza at 6:47 pm COLD! We've ordered from them before and have had GREAT pizza, RAW pizza and now COLD pizza. Most of the employees hate to WORK so you just don't know what you're going to get.\r \r 5/14/07 UPDATE!!!\r Two weeks later, I recieved a call from the owner. He urged me and my family to come and dine-in. I took him up on his offer (no benes, we paid for our dinner). The service was friendly, the food arrived in an acceptable period of time and it tasted great. I'm upping my rating from below average to RECOMMENDED.\r If the owner is able to keep the standards he has set, I could easily change my rating to a higher level in the future.\r PS If you know of some real workers, send them his way. Great guy!\r \r 09/09/07 Update!!!\r See lmz (my wife's) review. We would have put it here but we ran out of space. You just can't tell if you are going to get a good pizza at Doughboy's anymore. I just can't recommend it to my friends anymore. I hope he gets this mess straightened out when he opens up on his new location is Crition. If not it is going to die fast and quite. Pros: When it's good, it's Great! Cons: When it's bad, it's really bad! 50/50 chance... more

Best pizza, most topings choices. Great italian. 6/28/2006

Best pizza in Mobile, right above Mellow Mushroom (ooh so close though). Wide variety of toppings choices. Had a few of their italian dishes and they were very good too. Highly recommeded for pizza lovers. A must try. We do not suggest dining in. The seating in the resteraunt was bad, and it was hot from the ovens. Recommend ordering ahead of time for pick up or delivery. Pros: Food, choices Cons: Don't recommend dine in. Pick up or delivery a good idea. more
