Doug was recommended to me by my friend/contractor, Paul Balmuth (PB Construction) who had just built my new front deck. Doug suggested that he hand-wash the old wooden(1964) house, wash all of the windows and paint the trim. He and his crew were professional, timely and efficient - I am very pleased with the result! And when my wrought iron bench made some stains on the new deck after they moved it, he offered to re-sand and re-oil the deck for free - now that's service!! more

Doug and his team of incredibly polite, professional, dependable and capable painters and handymen will make your house look better than you can imagine. We needed to get our house ready to put on the market, and what I appreciated most about Doug was that he walked around with me, listened, saw exactly what needed to be done (which included painting, sanding, fixing bits of wood, caulking, sealing, etc...), and then GOT IT DONE. I built some cherry cabinets, but did not know how to match the wood putty to the color of the stained wood so the nail holes would not show. Doug's crew had no trouble matching the color to hide the nail holes and putting a beautiful finish on the cabinets. This is the second time we have used Doug Gorton and would highly recommend him to anyone. Great job and great attitude. Pros: Kept working with us until we were completely satisfied. Doug and his crew were very professional, punctual, quiet and clean. Everything you want in a painter and his crew. They also went out of their way to do extras like cleaning fences, patios and driveways. Doug Gorton painters returned a very competitive bid on painting the exterior of our home. They showed up on the day scheduled to start. They did excellent prep work (brush washing instead of pressure), sealed all cracks, cleaned all windows, replaced rotted wood and rolled-on the paint vs spray. more

They started the following Tuesday and in 6 days, they transformed our house from an interior of hellish baby-blue into one of great colors. And did they ever do a great job! You'll get a great look in good time, without worrying that they have cut corners, because they make sure the surfaces are ready for paint before they start. Doug knows quality. He is a nice guy with nice folks working for him. He is very respectful of your furnishings and his team is fast. Warranty or touch up issues are no problem. Pros: Good guy and if a mistake is made, all you have to do is tell Doug about it and he fixes it. Cons: Be sure to make him write down what you need him to remember. Doug and his crew are the best painters we have hired and we've had several. We had a neighbors tree fall on our house and scratch up the side pretty good. Doug not only fixed and painted it, but he did it in a matter of two days. I couldn't believe it when I looked outside the first day of work to see 15 guys working away on my house. Two days seemed maybe a little to fast for it to be a good job, but I'm telling you it was done right the first time and looks amazing. Thanks Doug! What can you say about a painting contractor who hand washes your home and windows before ever putting paint to surface, uses the best materials, has the aesthetic sense of Michaelangelo, and has the most capable, professional, personable and friendly crews in Austin? As if that were not enough Doug Gorton offers a two year warranty on his work, coming back to touch up deterioration that you find during that period. When Doug was recommended to me by my employer, I was doubtful that this contractor would be more than just "he's good." When I first met Doug he was so personable and offered so many great suggestions like faux graining my garage doors and trim, offering to paint my neighbor's house just to make mine show better, and explaining his warranty that i was immediately won over. Absolutely everything that he promised he delivered. But best of all was the reaction of my neighbors: they loved the finished product as much as I did. I can say with absolute confidence that I have the most beautiful (really!) and durable paint job in my neighborhood. I only wish the homeowners who live in University Hills could see Doug's work because they found this recommendation. Their paint is OK but mine is FABULOUS!. more

I had a big project with lots of old paint scrapping and detailed window work. Any time I had a concern, Doug was always there to address it and get his men back on track. His workers work well together and do a great job. He'll definatly be my go to guy for painting in the future. I've done a lot of work to my 1920's bungalow since I bought it 15 years ago, so I've dealt with a lot of contractors, good and bad. These guys were professional, did the job right, on time. Doug is also personable and knowledgeable, and had a lot of great ideas. I'll call them again when I need some painting. more

I stumbled across Doug Gorton while trying to to find a good painter in Austin. I kept asking friends for references but all of them would say "well I used another painter but I would NOT recommend them again". Even my contractor friends could not provide references they fully endorsed. Pros: Excellent prep and quality of workmanship. Cons: None. more
