John is a scumbag! 1/12/2014

I just wanted to write this review ( I don't write reviews often) but I wanted everyone that views these reviews in the hopes to bring our furry babies to a nice place that will treat them with love and respect to beware of this place. Kudos to Mike R. for letting others know about the owner he is a complete and total scumbag. I brought my bichon there today I dropped him off at 11am and received him 6 hours later, I was not called to even be told that he was ready but I called around 3:30 to check on him and make sure everything was okay and they said they closed at 530 and to come by at close. When I arrived in the store, both the owner, I believe his name is John and the girl working the front desk stood there for a minute counting money and didn't even stop to say hello. Notwithstanding I greeted them and asked if he was ready, they told me he still wasn't ready, to this I said wow really you guys have been working on him this whole time or did you just start on him a few hours ago more

Notwithstanding I greeted them and asked if he was ready, they told me he still wasn't ready, to this I said wow really you guys have been working on him this whole time or did you just start on him a few hours ago. After I said this the owner said( barked rather) well what do you think it doesn't take a long time to groom a dog, I calmly said no i'm sure it takes quite a while but i am just wondering how long it took to cut and de-matt him. He yelled at me and ran off and slammed the door to go in the back room. The girl at the desk apologized and said he was under a lot of stress during this time. This kind of an establishment should not be in business, fortunately for him the groomer did a great job on my dog. Credit is due to her and the kindness of the girl at the front desk. I was charged $52 for a wash and trim which is ridiculously expensive but I would pay anything for my dog to be in good hands and at doggie styles he was in the absolute worst. I will tell anyone and everyone that will here me about how horrible this establishment is. DONT GO HERE!!!!!!! more

The owner is a scum bag, not only did he do an awful job, he gave my mother attitude along with my father. We where only concerned about our cat because she had been there nearly 7 hours so we called. When we where fed up with the mans attitude over the phone we went to get our little cat and he slammed the crate on the ground and told us to leave. Not to mention his establishment smells AWFUL!!! I will never suggest this place to anyone and I truly hope this place closes because of the way this man treats animals.. (This isn't the only story about how he has wrongly treated animals) DO NOT GO HERE!!! more

Very happy with my dog first visit to this place. more

Not so good 4/25/2012

Tried here twice. Nice place, decently clean, clearly a good number of people take their dogs, owner seems passionate. But doesn't listen to special grooming needs - or perhaps doesn't ask enough questions. Either way - tried to cover up where he knew he ""did wrong"" with not one but two bandanas... None-the-less, dog has a crap ass cut and looks like hell. Thank goodness coats grow back. New groomer - no - I'll deal with the grooming myself because even as a non groomer, his coat is 1000 times better than when ANYONE else does it. Owner refused refund AND tried to give me attitude too? As if I would be offended that he's not going to groom my spaniel again... Thank goodness my bank allowed me to file claim and they will deal with this. I need to give Citizens a good review. more

Highly recomended!! 12/31/2011

I purchased a Female Boxer we named Sadie from John almost 10 years ago. I had done a ton of research and visited with a lot of breeders throughout all of New England. I found John and I was very impressed. He was very knowledgeable about the breed and he cared where the puppies ended up. Upon purchase of the dog we had to sign a contract that we would not surrender the dog to anyone except for him. His dogs were in great shape and very well taken care of as were the litter of puppies. One of John?s boxers, Sadie?s grandmother, had lived to the ripe age of 16 which far exceeds the average life span of a boxer. . From day one she has been an excellent dog. She has never had any medical problems and her temperament and statute is perfect. I have had so many complements on her. She is on the lower end of the AKC Standards for weight, weighing just over 50 lbs. but she is in great shape! Our vet comments about how good she is and how healthy she is especially at almost 10 years old more

Oliver's First Grooming 8/2/2011

In all honesty, I booked an appt for my 5 year old male cat (matted on backside), read some reviews and cancelled my appt. John called back to see if I wanted to reschedule, I told him I would call and that was the end. I thought for a bit and called John back. I told him I wanted to be honest and that I had cancelled my appt after reading some of the reviews. We spoke for a while and he explained his work ethic, love for animals and offered references. He did not dwell on the negative but instead stood by his reputation and committed to handling my Oliver personally. \r \r I decided to give him a chance... also warning I would make him my hood ornament should anything happen to Oliver. I'm sure he's used to dealing with over protective pet owners but I was double concerned because this was Oliver's first visit. I dropped off a very...ummm cranky kitty to say the least. I called a little later to check and Oliver was hanging tough. :-) John told me he wasn't the crankiest cat he has deal more

My Yorkshire Terrier, Princess has been going to John since she has been 6 months old,,The first time I seen John he was so passionate about princess, you would of thought that Princess was his dog. John has such a good relationship with Princess, When I say to Princess where's Uncle John or lets go see uncle John she runs to the door to go to him....When we get at the Salon she jumps out of the car and runs up to the door to see her Uncle John....I just love it...John has made my Princess look so beautiful... I have been where he baths the animals and it is so CLEAN and when there is several animals together they all seem to do very well together...John has also began taking care of my pomerian and she is afraid of her own shadow,, with John she does excellent and now she even runs to the door to see her Uncle John..The thing I like about John if there is ever anything with the animals (Princess has skin tabs) John calls right away and has you come in and see it right away and tells more

This is in responce to Taryn and Jeff Devine \r \r I agree with taryn. I am the owner of doggie styles pet spa and I was the only one to groom her dog! I was beside myself when taryn presented me photos of her dog and I felt horrable! This poor dog! I have gone through great lenghts to contact my insurance company and get taryn's vet bills paid for her! ALTHOUGH taryn came to me and stated numerous times that she did not think anything was done maliciously ...I still felt awful! In fact I was in tears when I saw her! What happend to her dog? \r \r After a lenghty investagation by my insurance companys medical investagation team as well as information collected from taryns own 2 vets... the claim was denied because it was deemed NOT my fault her dog had an ALLERGETIC REACTION! When I asked my insurance company how to proceed with this issue they simply stated they would pay for my legle representation should the Devines persue it further!! Unfortunatly sometimes these things happen and lif more

DISGUSTED! 5/24/2010

Absolutely awful experience! My dog came home from being groomed & it was very clear something shady had happened...I will never know the answer as to WHAT went on while my dogs were being groomed but after picking them up 1 of my dogs couldnt open his eye & also had an extremely large gash on his chest...after the emergency vet visit I then took him to ocean state animal hospital where they admitted him immediately & now has a large cornea ulcer in one eye that could result in loss of sight & also possible damage in the other...WHAT could you possibly spray to make this happen? A day at the groomer resulted in them sedating him to medicate because of how painful this whole experience was! Im beyond disgusted with John & will never speak a good word about him...ill never get the truth as to what really happened but I would like people to know how shady & awful my experience has been! In order to provide the review I must give a rating that makes you choose 1 but even 1 star is 1 to man more

Excellent training and care 12/9/2008

John F. at Doggie Styles has taken excellent care of my Great Dane during her daycare visits. I sought him for training when she was just 6 months old and raising heck! She is now an enormous sweetheart and at 5 years old, still goes crazy in love when she sees John. John's training is the reason why she is such a well-behaved kiddo. I'd bring any canine of any breed to him.\r John is very professional and has a giant heart of gold. more

Chantel was offered her money back after she complained even tho it was six months after the purchess!! I clearly was not responsable because her dog caught giardia from the horse farm she frequents for grooming and passed it on to her new puppy! \r \r Giardia can be cured, however chantel's ignorance will stay with her for life! \r \r I own the puppy's dam and my best friend owns the sire, both are purebred dogs, however chantel cant seem to comprehend that a shorkie is a combination of 2 purebred dogs and is not purebred itself! She called me stating that we misled her and her dog is not a purebred....dahhhh DESIGNER BREED!!! Again ignorance is bliss!! \r \r As per the dogs temperment and behavioral issues ...that comes directly from the source.... chantel! Both parents are wonderful dogs and anyone that wishes to stop by and see them, they come to work with us everyday! there were 3 pups in the litter besides chantels and each still comes in for grooming and day care each is a sweet l more

Purchased Sick Puppy 9/1/2008

Recently, I purchased a puppy, "Shorkie" from doggie styles in Cranston, RI. I found out the puppy was sick with Giardia and the breeder, John Sroais wanted to take no responsibility.\r \r The puppy also shows signs of aggression and behavioral issues, a sign of over breeding. Buyers please be aware of these facts prior to purchasing your puppy and think about the contamination in the "SPA location for your grooming needs.\r \r Upon further research, the puppy?s lineage is determined not to even be a ?Shorkie.? more
