I've been to Dixies many times over the years. Seldom by my choice. I mostly agree with the other reviews, but feel something is missing...
Dixies is in a converted garage (car mechanic shop) near where the 520 and 405 meet. Essentially under the 405. Parking can be problematic when it's crowded (nice days). You then get into line - again, often long - and select your food from a cafeteria-style line. This is very different from, say, 3 Pigs or Texas Smoke House where you actually place an order.
After getting your food, you find a place to sit. At some point, the proprietor comes by asking if you want to "Meet The Man". This means, do you want some of the hot BBQ sauce that makes VampFire sauce seem like hollandaise? The answer should typically be "No", because you're there for the ambience, not the suffering.
Note that I didn't say you're there for the food. It's okay, but not really worth the effort. I think Texas Smoke House is better, and of course many places out-of-state.
Will I go back? Yes, when a group of friends or co-workers insist. But not for the food.
