Best

Man do they pile it on. If you like it hot and you like big portions.

Worst

This is not even the 4th best Q in the area. It's a good thing that the criteria is ""mouth numbing"" and not good tasting! The meat is too fatty, over cooked (seems boiled rath...

It's about the ambience and the heat 12/4/2006

I've been to Dixies many times over the years. Seldom by my choice. I mostly agree with the other reviews, but feel something is missing... Dixies is in a converted garage (car mechanic shop) near where the 520 and 405 meet. Essentially under the 405. Parking can be problematic when it's crowded (nice days). You then get into line - again, often long - and select your food from a cafeteria-style line. This is very different from, say, 3 Pigs or Texas Smoke House where you actually place an order. After getting your food, you find a place to sit. At some point, the proprietor comes by asking if you want to "Meet The Man". This means, do you want some of the hot BBQ sauce that makes VampFire sauce seem like hollandaise? The answer should typically be "No", because you're there for the ambience, not the suffering. Note that I didn't say you're there for the food. It's okay, but not really worth the effort. I think Texas Smoke House is better, and of course many places out-of-state. Will I go back? Yes, when a group of friends or co-workers insist. But not for the food. more

Dixie's BBQ--finalist for best barbeque joint 10/4/2006

Awesome BBQ 4/2/2006

Hey Tim reminded me of this place. It is a complete hole in the wall, but completely worth it as a place to pig out on ribs. Personally, I like my ribs with lots of rub, but this place definitely serves. Of course the best ribs are the one you slow roast yourself. Its incredibly easy to do more

Dixie's BBQ 4/2/2006

The first time I met The Man, I just had to run. I wasn't sure where I would run to. It was raining and windy outside and I wasn't dressed for it. But I think I thought I could run away from the heat burning out my insides. The Man is the hot sauce and Dixie's is a special place. Surroundings are spartan at best. It's an old car garage lined with picnic tables. And the service can sometimes remind you of that Soup Nazi episode on Seinfeld. But they do offer the best BBQ in the area and definitely the hottest sauce you'll ever meet. It's hard to find so look for it somewhat unmarked and tucked up beneath a corner of 405 and 520. It's crowded in the summer and a high tech hangout so expect to wait a while for simple treats like the 520 Special (sausage, BBQ meat, bun). And if you meet The Man (the spicy hot goop served from a small pan by the loud proprietor), look for the peanuts to help cut the heat. more

Go See the Man... 3/20/2006

Dixies Barbeque is a local secret. Hidden in some sort of automotive repair shop, this place doesn't command much drive by business, but by word of mouth, you've got to see "the man" for the hottest hot sauce you've ever had. Good home style BBQ cooking. Not much on the ambiance, but it's worthwhile for the food and experience. "The Man" is a local must do. more

It's Hot, but Quite an Experience! 3/18/2006

It's hot, hot, hot, for sure! If you're prepared for the setting, than you won't be surprised when you pull into this automotive place. But I gotta tell you, that's part of the charm! The food is good--it's BBQ. But it's worriesome the way "the man" walks around stalking victims with his hot sauce. It appears as if he goes after the most unknowing victims the most. Anyhow, if you like good, hot BBQ, go to Dixie's! Kinda cool that I saw Dixies on a Food Network show also. more

Like it Hot - Go Meet the Man at Dixie's BBQ 3/18/2006

Wow! Our family loves hot, spicy food and let me tell ya' there ain't nothing hotter than the MAN. It is the side sauce that is only handed out by the owner of Dixie's BBQ. And boy is it hot. The place is located in what looks like a garage of a gas station, with picnic tables for eating on. The owners are characters and can come across to some as being rude, but that is part of the show. They have always been nice to us. It is one of the best BBQs that I have ever had eaten. You can get a large bun full of BBQ beef or pork and cornbread on the side for under $10.00. more

Lunch, and a bit of a sideshow 3/7/2006

Dixie's has developed quite a following and reputation in the Seattle area. It's located in a converted auto repair shop. (It feels like they still handle a few auto repairs every now and then.) They serve up good southern barbeque at a decent price. To top it off the owner is usually roaming the place daring people to try his hot sauce. It's an absolutely fiery concoction that will leave you in pain if you take too much. Then again it also really doesn't have much taste. Guaranteed at some point during lunch the owner will get in a loud confrontation with some patron about just how much hot sauce they can handle. Which in turn usually becomes a spectacle for the rest of the people. The place is always packed at lunchtime so either go early or be prepared to wait. more

Tourist attraction, ok BBQ 9/15/2005

"Have YOU met the MAN?" That's their slogan. This restaurant is a well known tourist attraction for delivering an old southern restaurant feel and an insanely hot (but not too tasty) hot sauce that will make most grown men cry and their food inedible. This family-owned establishment has earned numerous awards and reviews….just make sure you go early during lunch before the crowd and when the food is still fresh. more
