Best

My husband and I took my children to the Comedy Club in 2009. They had never been to a comedy club and had a BLAST! Service was very good and the comedians kept me laughing the ...

Worst

We bought tickets from a man in Times Square for $20.00 each. He told us that with this deal we would NOT have to buy any drinks, and that it would be fine for the 13 year old ....

Lame waiter, bad food, great comedy!! 1/10/2009

First things first, download the 2 for 1 entry ($20) from dangerfields webiste, because this place is EXPENSIVE...we had a waiter that we kept calling mr. personality, he was horrible, didnt smile, didnt say hi, wasn't attentive at all..we kept waiting for him to order more drinks or he would walk by and not even look our way..you would think for a comedy club you would have a waiter with some kind of personality..one of us had the burger with fries which was so bland and unseasonded, had no flavor whatsoever and that was $16. bux..what the hell..?? I had the combo platter which included 3mozzerella sticks, 3 zucchini sticks and stale fries ($13) all of which were cold, the sticks kept breaking up in the marinara sauce..the drinks were ehhhh ok, nothing special..the bill ended up being $220 for 6 ppl..now the positive side is the comedy was HYSTERICAL...every single comedian had us cracking up, be prepared if you are going to sit in the front row you are doomed...but it's still funny...long story short, do not go for the food it strictly to have a good nite full of laughter..go eat somewhere else before you come here...have fun and go with an open mind and a sense of humor. Pros: good comedians, location Cons: service, food and drinks more

Do not get scammed by this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11/28/2008

This place has a bunch of scam artists on the street in Times Square selling "VIP Tickets." Do not get ripped off by these people. The VIP tickets were $20 a piece, with a two drink minimum. The guy who took my money wrote down my name and promised third row. He also said that it was a deal because if I went directly to the club, I would have to wait in line and the tickets would be more expensive. Turns out the tickets were only $15 at the door, there was no line, and there was no drink minimum. I ended up having to buy $9 bud lights, and they automatically included the tip in the bill. I'm sure this was because they knew they were ripping me off and I wouldn't have tipped them jack. Also, the club is only 4 rows deep anyway, and we ended up sitting in the second row as it was, so the promise of third row just to get my money was a complete lie. Now on to the performers. Within this guys salespitch, we were promised it was a taping for comedy central, and that there would be appearences by 8 people: four members of the Chappelles show, such as Ashy Larry, Charlie Murphy, etc, as well as four others who have appeared on Comedy Central programming, like Dave Attel, Sarah Silverman and possibly Chris Rock. I did not know a single person who performed and there were only five performers, not 8 as promised. There were no cameras for a "taping for Comedy Central." It was all a big scam. So, the tickets cost me $40 total, the cab to get there was another $20, and the 4 drinks I was required to buy, came to $46. I will never recommend this place, and I will continue to spread the word that it is a huge rip off. I REPEAT, DO NOT GO HERE!! GO TO CAROLINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: none Cons: Bad service, got ripped off, drinks too expensive, comedy sucked, nothing good about it more

No respect to this place. 7/8/2008

Awful. We (my wife and I) purchased "VIP" tickets from a man in Times Square. He said there would be a popular comedy cable channel taping at the club and our tickets would get us front row seats BUT to still call ahead for reservations, which we did. After purchasing the tickets he informed us of the two drink minimum but said beers would only cost $8.00 each. We arrived at the club and were seated in the back despite our reservations and "VIP" tickets. We mentioned this to the waiter/doorman who only nodded his head and walked away. Our first two beers cost us $10.00 each, not $8.00. The comedians were only mildly funny. The last guy was so bad many people left. He wasn't crude or obscene, just not funny, at all. The cable channel was not anywhere around. There were kids ages 13-16 in the club, apparently there is no age requirement to get in???? The bar area is attached to the main stage area and the manager/bartender and other people were talking so loudly among themselves that it was interferring with the comedians on the stage. One of them even commented about it. The final straw for me was when a lady complained to the manager about the amount of the bill (apparently she was told different drink prices too) and he told her if she didn't like it to go somewhere else. Completely unprofessional. Rodney himself must be rolling over in his grave over what's happened to his club. Next time i'm in the city i'm going to Caroline's. Pros: It's a piece of comedy history. Cons: prices, bad advertising, bad staff. more

Will Go Again 4/19/2008

I read a good article about the club in Conde Nast . So we checked it out. Needless to say, it was unlike any comedy club we had ever been to. The staff was friendly, the drinks were good, the atmosphere was romantic, and most important the comics were hillarious. When we were leaving the staff handed out free tickets for another night. No expiration. WOW!! Can't wait till we are in N.Y. again, to see another show Pros: Lots of Fun more

Loved It 4/19/2008

Show was very funny. Also bought tickets in times square. No problems Comics were very good. I think the other reviewers are not used to big city prices. I didn't think the prices were too bad. Check it out, you will have a good time Cheers Pros: very funny show more

Fun Night ! 4/19/2008

Not sure what those other guys problems were. I bought tickets in Times Square from a very nice person. The show was GREAT!!. I would definately do it again! Thank you Dangerfields Pros: Great Comics !!! Cons: None more

SCAM! 2/24/2008

as the other review states, its a scam. We also bought tickets in times square and were told a completely different thing then what we received (we at least got in). We decided to pass on alcohol and decided on pop for our two mandatory drinks. 8 Mandatory pops later, we get a 50 DOLLAR BILL! I went to the lobby and gave the manager an ear full, he dropped our bill down to 37$. I myself am a restaurant manager and the service, including the manager ("captain") was the absolute worst I could imagine. DO NOT get caught in this scam. The one star is for the comics, they were good and the only reason we didn't walk out. Pros: Good Comics Cons: EVerything Else more

SCAMMED!! 1/3/2008

We were on vacation this past week in New York and got scammed by guys selling tickets for Dangerfield's in Times Square. They called in the "reservation" for front row tickets once we paid him for the tickets. When we arrived at the clucb, there was a line for "reservations" to get in. After standing in the rain for over 45 minutes after the schduled start time, a manager came out to inform us that the show was sold out and that he would give us tickets to the show the following day, NEW YEARS EVE!! There were a good 20 people that didn't get in and had reservations. After continued talking with the manager, we got our money back. He refused to give the oter 20 or so people their money back. We threatened calling the Bet. Bus. Bur. and actually got on the phone with them. Once he saw that, he jumped into action and ran inside to get some cash for us. The whole reasoning for the tickets we bought from the street vendor was that they weren't apart of the company, but nevertheless, he was aware of their ticket selling and that they were representing Dangerfield's. Honestly, the manager was nice and professional throughout the whole deal and you could tell that someone else was responsible for the SCAM. Lesson: buy the tickets from the club and if you get scammed don't leave until you get your cash. Never will I go back to Dangerfield's as if they would want us after the chewing they got. more

Teribble service! 12/30/2007

We bought tickets from a man in Times Square for $20.00 each. He told us that with this deal we would NOT have to buy any drinks, and that it would be fine for the 13 year old . After we were seated, the manager came over and said that we would have to buy drinks or we must leave!! The cab was expensive so we stayed. The manager even called the man on the street, and he confirmed what he told us! It didn't matter to the manager. The woman comic about 50 years old, was so VULGAR and disgusting! She was not at all appropiate for a 13 year old. She was so coarse; I hope to never again hear someone with a mouth like hers. I have heard many comics- she was in the WORST taste! After all this, the grouchy waiter came with the bill. We noticed that he charged us for things that we didn't order! When we brought this to his attention, he adjusted it. The 2 stars are for the comics that were good. This is overshadowed by the manager, waiter, female comic, and their salesman on the street who told us anything to make a sale. Cons: salesman lied to us, sleezy manager, mean waiter, vulgar comic, packed us in small space more

Sold out Thursday Night... 12/28/2007

I took my girlfriend last night when we decided not to spend two hundred bucks on Broadway, and I bought two tickets from a guy in front of the Marriot. He made a reservation and we got a candlelit table in the front row. We laughed for over two hours and my girlfriend forgot all about Wicked, thank you Dangerfield. Pros: Great talent, reasonable drinks, comfortable. Cons: Rodney wasn't there. more

What A GREAT Night 8/15/2007

After seeing 6 great headliners, Chris Rock walks in and does 37 minutes of great stuff. After the show Chris Rock shook hands and signed autographs. Great Club, drinks prices were comparable to other places,, good service,,,, A really Good time. We will be back!! more

By far the BEST 8/14/2007

Guess there is a reason they have been in business for 38 years. Our company held an event at Dangerfields recently and were treated an evening of great fun, food and entertainment. The staff is helpful , the food good and the comics are the best in the business. There is a lot of history in this place. Most of today's top stars got there start here. We'll come back - again and again. more

Best attraction in New York City 8/3/2007

We had a great time at this club. Top comics, wonderful food and prices were not bad at all. It was the highlight of our trip to New York. There is also an area that serves at a kind of Rodney Dangerfield museum that is very interesting. P We plan to go again - on our next trip to NYC. more

Worst Comedy Club ever! 5/24/2007

05/19/07 I do not recommend Dangerfield's, this is the worst comedy club I have ever been to. They had about five different comedians, but it went from bad to worse. I can handle bad language but this was hard core raunchy, and not funny. All of the comedians talked about the same thing, it wasns't funny the first time, it certainly wasn't funny the third, forth, and fifth time. Don't waste your money!!!! They added gratuity and tax to the cover charge. Nothing funny about this place!!!! Pros: None Cons: Poor atmosphere, service, bad talent more

Deserves No Respect 1/13/2007

First, the place hasn't been renovated since it was built. Wood paneling?? The seating was cramped and not comfortable. The sound system sucked and the comedians were just not funny. If you keep saying the f word and nothing else, it's not funny?. If you order a drink, the prices are higher than most bars, the drinks are bad and in those tiny little glasses that you get in motels built in the 1950s. The scam is that they add a 10% tax (out of nowhere) and a 15% gratuity on the TOTAL bill including the cover. Since when do we tip on cover???? Where is the tax coming from?? RIP OFF!!! I've been to many comedy clubs, this was the worst by far. If you want a good time, go to Gotham or Carolines. Pros: The name Cons: Service, price, atmosphere, quality, entertainment value... all sucked more

TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1/10/2007

The worst service I have ever experienced!!!! The cause for such a terrible night was one man named Mikail. The "host" was a disgrace to his title. He ruined the entire night. This man, who barely spoke english, was loud, abrasive, and down right rude. He drove at least two guests out of the club while I was there. The comics were not bad, but for that kind of money I expect good service and a polite staff. Beyond the abuse of the host, the club was very expensive compared to it's competition. There are many other clubs in the vicinity with much better service at a far more reasonible price. I will never attend this club again. Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE!! Same as any other comedy club except for horrible service and a lot more money. more

Good Time 3/20/2005

I went to Dangerfield's on a Sat, night with a reservation for two. I was very impressed with the service, from the phone call, to the waiters. Also, all three of the acts were hilarious, and I have to say that I am not easily able to laugh at jokes just because I am at a comedy club. (you know what I'm talking about) Just expect to pay over average for drinks, since there is a two drink minimum with 15% gratuity included. Also, get there at least 15 minutes before showtime, or your seats will be gone (reservation or not) -Had a great night overall! Pros: good service, good acts Cons: expensive drinks more

Hit Caroline's Instead 12/29/2003

While this may be a fun venue for young kids in high school or tourists, this pack-them-in-like-sardines club just doesn't do it for regular New Yorkers. Not too mention the poor mixed and frozen cocktails and food. The drinks are so watered down, and the food is definitely poor. You'll find more laughs and bigger comedy acts at Caroline's. Pros: On Upper East Side, Parking discount, Open 7 days a week Cons: Food, Drinks, Comedic talent more

Completely Overrated 8/15/2003

I was greatly disappointed upon visiting the well-known Dangerfield's. First off, the place was so dark, you could barely read the menus. Our waiter was rude and impatient, and certainly did not deserve the 15% gratuity that was added on to the bill. Also, be careful! An irish coffee is $17!! Although the room was pretty decent-sized, my group still ended up being cramped since management tried to see how many people they could fit into the room. People were being seated even half-way through the show. And speaking of the show - the host and most of the comics were horrible, except for 2. The others resorted to digusting gross out humor and put the audience to sleep. About 60% of the audience left before the show was even over. All in all, this place certainly does not live up to the reputation it once had. Pros: Little to none Cons: bad service, comics not funny, cramped more

Lousy on weekday 1/11/2003

We recently went to this club on thursday night. I thought I was in a nightmare. The place is small, dark. The stage might as well be a cardbox. 2 out of 5 of the comedians were funny. I felt bad for the ones that had potential. The price is definitely a wipe-off. Should have gone to score instead. Go to Carolines, Comic Strip live instead of this dive where the comedians will try to make up for their lack of humor by every ethnic slurs they can think of. Pros: small, few tourists Cons: the host sucks, not worth the cost more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Co-founded by legendary comic Rodney Dangerfield (hence the name), this stand-up room has been in business at the same location since 1969--a rare feat for a comedy venue. Though you won't see the club's namesake around very often, Dangerfield's rare policy of no drink/food minimum makes this comedy destination one of your better bets in terms of yuks for your bucks.

    The Draw
The weekly bill of performers always features a national headliner as seen on "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Tonight Show," some Comedy Central progam or even one of Dangerfield's own HBO specials (which incidentally are taped at the club). But if your looking for real laughs, don't just show up for the recognizable names. The real talent here is found in house regulars like Nancy Redman, Richie Byrne and Billy Burr.
