Best

I first went here as a young boy, 20 some years ago. It was my first cheesesteak and defined the standard for all that followed. Nothing on South Street compares. I'd pick up o...

Cheesesteak 10/26/2006

I don't care how good there cheesesteaks are I refuse to wait 45minutes in a stuffy shoebox for any cheese steak. Workers are as slow as you get. Pros: food good Cons: speed of service terrible more

Dont't Get it 4/8/2006

Average, cannot understand the fuss, never went back. You can get much better. more

Better than Most 2/17/2005

but not as great as Larry's on 54th Street. The place is incredibly filthy, but I didn't come here for the atmosphere. I ordered a cheesesteak w/ fried onions and ketchup. It looked delicious but it came to us almost cold. I couldn't taste the cheese and the meat was too finely minced to a point that it's was too mushy. I loved the humongous portions, the soft bread and the service. This place is MUCH better than those cheesesteak tourist attractions in South Philly but I prefer Larry's. I would rank Dalessandro's as #2 cheesesteak joint. Pros: Service, Cheap Cons: COLD cheesesteak, Limited Seating, FILTHY more

Not as good as cChink's 4/16/2004

I've toured all of the Philly Cheesesteak establishments, trying to discover the best overall cheesesteak out there. And I thought that Dalessandro's steak's is pretty average. The quantity is definately big, which is a plus. The roll is pretty good, but the quality of the meat was slightly below average. All in all, I would classify it as an average cheesesteak compared to Pats or Genos. And inferior to cChink's steaks, which is by far the best that I have tasted. more

delasandro's best in philly 3/11/2004

i have lived in philly for 42 years & have eaten at 90 % of these places.I can tell you that delasandros cheese steaks-particularly the mushroom cheese steak with pizza sauce is unbeatable. He is the best as far as i am concerned Pros: good food, good service Cons: , seating room more

Always super 9/22/2003

Grew up on Dalessandro's as a kid from around the corner on Jamestown St., moved out of the neighborhood but stop back there for cheesesteaks every chance that I can. Always fantastic sandwiches reasonably priced and a great, friendly neighborhood atmosphere more

Beats out Pat's, Genos, Steves and Jims 5/1/2003

The biggest difference is the freshness, the bread is fresh, the cheese is melted on top (not like pat's or geno's) and the meat comes fresh off the grill and into your hands. The meat doesn't come from a vat like at the other high volume cheesesteak places. The bottom of the roll doesn't get soggy and there is no hype in the name, just good cheesesteak. more

nice & cheesey 2/9/2003

living in n.j.and visiting an aunt near Delessandro's isn't the real reason for stopping for 4 cheese steaks. the main reason, they make the best ever. the service is much above average and very friendly. also, thier hoagie making is #1 with me. they have been there many, many years and is still the very best to me. Pros: neighborhood feeling, well known in area, feel comfortable in s Cons: n/a, n/a, n/a more

Amazing 2/3/2003

So much better than pat's or Geno's, they actually melt the cheese into your steaks, and the meat is shredded so finely its amazing. By far the best in Philly. more

I grew up on these cheesesteaks 12/26/2002

I no longer live in the Philly area but I did grow up on these cheese steaks - I was lucky to live nearby. I bring visitors to Philly to several cheese steak places and Dalesandro's always wins out, hands down. Nowadays, whenever I am in the Philly area I take home 3 or 4 - besides the one I eat there - so I can relish the taste as long as I can! Pros: the meat, the rolls, the service!!! more

Z Best! 12/12/2002

Steak of America 9/18/2002

Dalessandro's Steaks saved my life. when I first moved to East Falls I couldn't find a good cheesesteak to save my life or so I thought then there was Dalessandro's, WOW! the cheesesteak was better than anything I ever had in South Philly go figure the best cheesesteak was actually located on Henry ave. in Roxborough Pros: not pricey, generous portions, fast clean serivice Cons: street parking, need longer hours more

solid choice for cheesesteaks 9/16/2002

I sampled Dalessandro's cheesesteaks and they are pretty good. the roll was fresh, the steak was tasty, cheese well melted. overall nothing to complain about. and a good value at $4.50. the ambience was kind of lame. just a picnic table and a counter. but that can be good in kind of old-school neighborhood deli kind of way. overall, worth a visit. but for me Jim's on south st is still the best. Pros: cheesesteaks, cheesesteaks, cheesesteaks more

The absolute best! 9/3/2002

No contest. You cannot geta better cheesesteak anywhere. The competition? What competetion? Please...as if Cheese Whiz were an acceptable topping for steak...What are ya kiddin' me? more

Definitely Best of Philly 8/27/2002

My Dad introduced me to Dalesandro's when I was small, too small to remember. I don't live in Philly anymore, but try to get one every once in a while when I'm home to visit. Even my husband from TN said they were awesome and won't eat them anywhere else now. more

Pure Bliss 8/26/2002

I make the trip to Philly from New York for Dalessandro's. We used to go to Pat's, untill we discoverd this gem. Forget about the assembly line of Gino's and Pat's and come to Dalessandro's for the true definition of what a cheessteak is. more

Dalessandro's is #1 8/19/2002

I have been going there for 18 years and it is THE best! I have tried them all and Delly's is so much better than the crap that places that Pat's serves. Mushroom Cheesesteak with Fired Onions YUM , my mouth is drooling. May need to take the 20 minute drive from the burbs tonight and get one. Love all those hot pepper varieties they have on the counter!! Italian Hoagies are really good too. Pros: Hot peppers, 40 OUNCE BEER, Great Value Cons: Parking, Crowded more
