cup diner, cute place to eat 8/16/2009

My husband and I went 4 dinner We were seated promptly when we entered The food was cheap for the area and better than most other diners I have gone to. The serving size was also huge... and we could not finish it all (I had a vegetarian omlet and my husband had a grat stake). The service was ok. I would come back again. Pros: original atmosphere more

Average food, horribly abusive management 10/28/2008

The last time we ordered we called at 8:30pm & ordered two pieces of pie, a piece of cake & a soda. At 9:30, when the food still hadn't arrived, we called to check to make sure it was on it's way-we were told it was and should be there momentarily. When it still hadn't arrived at 9:50 we called back to check on the status. A man answered the phone and he was shocked, saying that we ""never placed the order"" and that he was the only person answering the phone that night so he would KNOW if someone placed that order. We explained that we definitely placed the order, and called just 20 minutes prior to check on it. He started yelling, telling us that there was ""NO WAY."" It was ludicrous. He finally asked us if we wanted him to send us the pies or not, and I said yes, please. He refused to believe this was some mistake on their part, and acted as if he was doing us a favor by sending over the desserts. When I hung up, I was kind of shocked, I told my roommate what had happened and she decided that she no longer wanted her food. I called back, (someone else answered the phone) and I asked to speak to a manager. The angry man picked up the phone again and said he was the owner. He started shouting at me from the start this time. He said that we were playing games with him- that we had ""just called back"" and said thank you for sending the pies so quickly. He wouldn't let me speak, but I tried to explain that no, we hadn't received the desserts nor did we call to thank them just seconds before. He continued to scream at me for about ten minutes. We finally just hung up. I think this was possibly a case of either a forgotten order or maybe a mix up with the delivery? Who knows. I don't understand the reason that the ""owner"" of the restaurant would get so violently angry over a small mistake like this (that was CLEARLY their fault). It could have easily been solved with an apology and a promise to send our food right away. Pros: Good beer fries Cons: Horrible and verbally abusive owner, refuses to take responsibility for bad service more

Neat decor 5/9/2008

I went here for breakfast/brunch recently. The decor is nice on the inside and despite reading all the bad reviews, we found the service to be acceptable. Our food came out quickly and it was good. I had the goat cheese and spinach omelet. It wasn't the best I've ever had but again this is no fine dining establishment. My guest had the pancakes and they were very good. I would go back here any time I was seeking a diner-type place to go eat. Pros: Neat Decor more

went to the cup this saturday night 4/30/2008

Me and my two girlfriends went to the cup on Saturday night. I was not impressed to much with the food but one of my girlfriends seems to have a small crush on the very nice blond guy who we think is either the owner or the manager. Rebecca is kind of shy and when I said that the food was not really that great, she said to me, but isn't he really cute? He is but the food does need to be better no matter how much she likes the guy. Pros: Nice people, very friendly Cons: need better quality of food more

THE CUP WAS EXCELLENT 4/20/2008

First off, the food was really good. my order was taken quickly and my food came pretty fast. portions are huge. I have to say the the manager Joe ( upon who's name I asked ) was fantastic. He came over and asked me and my girlfriend how everything was and if we were satisfied with all. He was really genuine, not like some other fakes who act like they care. Joe approached quite a few tables and this was something customers really appreciate. The food was good and the service was superb. Five stars for the cup. As good as it gets as far as I am concerned. Pros: GREAT SERVICE. MANAGER WAS FANTASTIC Cons: NONE THAT I SAW more

Is it turing into a lite bites??? 1/17/2008

I haven't been to cup in a while and they changed alot! It looks like lite bites in there(the signs and cooler display.) Where did this random snack cooler come from and why is it stocked with fruit cups? what happened to the fun staff? Where is the manager? Where is an Owner? Who's idea was the neon lights? I have to say the way cup was before 2 or 3 years ago it was great. I remember they were involved in the community with art and live music perfomances. Now they are just another place with an odd cooler full of fruitcups. I have to agree with people though, The service inexperienced, the food is wierd, and the place is dirty, REALLY DIRTY!!!!!! Pros: I once liked the decor Cons: Don't like it anymore more

down down down 1/16/2008

This place has really gone down the tube. First of all, with the exception of a few servers that are actually adults, the staff is very young and inexperienced. Most of them don't care about the customers needs. They take and order and forget you. They seem to be more conserned about text mesaging on there cell phones. The only bartender that knows how to make a drink is the one that works on friday nights. Pros: location, some good severs Cons: Young inexperienced, apathetic staff more

better than any other diner 12/8/2007

My husband and I went to cup for breakfast. We were seated promptly when we entered but the place was cold. I had to wear my jacket until I ordered a coffee to warm up...which arrived in a huge cup...hence, the name. the food was cheap for the area and better than most other diners I have gone to. The serving size was also huge... and we could not finish it all (I had a vegetarian omlet and my husband had pancakes). The service was sub-par. The place was fairly empty (we went on a tuesday) but we still had to call our server over to wait on us. She was friendly but dim-witted as she forgot to place my order for extra toast. These things happen though. I would come back again. Pros: cheap, good food for a diner Cons: Service, temperature more

Good Food, Poor Service 7/28/2007

Pros: food is usually good. great selection from burgers to pasta to omelettes. great setting with lots of space and light. comfortable seating. more

Great late night. 4/23/2007

After reading all the bad reviews... I had to post. Pros: Great service, food, hours. Cool restaurant design. Cons: None. more

Dependable Above Average Diner 4/7/2007

We've eaten there quite a few times for brunch and dinner. Except for a couple of slow serves when they were really busy, it is a good spot with food that is much better than the average diner. more

Worst dining experience I've ever had 2/24/2007

This was the worst dining experience I've ever had. I've never had such bad service before, I put all the blame on the management. My brother ordered crabcakes benedict, had to send them back twice because the were over cooked. Mind you we had to grab the manager to get them the second time. I ordered a fruit salad which I never got, we never got the juices we ordered. Never got our coffee refilled. So, when we asked for a manager...... He tells us that our waitress is dying of the flu. Then he tells us that we should have grabbed him ten minutes earlier, and to never wait around for bad service. He put the blame on us for getting bad service. Pros: decent food Cons: worst dining experience ever more

CUPS IS A DISGRACE, terrible customer service 1/22/2007

The food was ok but my phone order was frieghtning. Sitting here at work and was just hungry looking through the menus. I saw that CUPS had a big burger for a fair price so I called them up. Wish I didn't do that. The snob waitress that answered the phone spoke to me as if I owed her something. She was very very nasty, short and distasteful. BAD ATTITUDE. When I called up the first thing I sayed was that I wanted to use a credit card. She was putting so much energy into being smart and rushing my order that she hung up the phone without even asking for the card number. If a customer calls your restaurant with a credit card order are you not supposed to ask them for the information. I also requested that no pickle or cole slaw be included in my order. When I called her back to give her the number she sayed ""I don't read minds...umm humm"" . Very stink and nasty, almost bit my head off through the phone. For this reason alone I will never order from this place again and I will definitely never visit the place. Queens is full of joints with better service and more courteous people. I plan to visit only to complain to the manager. NOT RECOMMENDED. more

MY CUP OF TEA 1/16/2007

I HAVE NOTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE AT CUPS.EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT!THE BIG CUPS OF COFFEE WERE DELICIOUS!I LOVE THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE TURKEY BACON!AND THE OMELETE I HAD WAS TO DIE FOR!I JUST HOPE THE SERVICE STAYS THAT WAY BECAUSE I DEFINETLY PLAN TO GO BACK THERE! Pros: Everything!!! more

Like an abusive relationship, I continue to go back for more... 12/3/2006

I want to love Cup, really I do - but the service and general attitude of their waitstaff is so awful that it kills it for me. Generally speaking the place isn't that bad - the food is very good and it's affordable, but week after week it's the same thing. Their staff are younger kids with bad attitudes. If they're not dumb, they're mean. Pros: Cool space, affordable, good music, good cup o' joe Cons: Wait staff are clueless dolts, wifi never works, new chili recipe stinks as compared to old more

Cool Atmosphere, Great Food, Weird Service 9/6/2006

I live in the neighborhood so I have eaten there and gotten take out quite a few times. I love the food but the service leaves something to be desired. I agree with a previous review that admitted you can't expect too much from teenagers, and I suspect the review that claims the waiters aren't teenagers IS a waiter at Cup, and a teenager! Service is very slow which is sometimes ok, but you have to read your table. I once ate there and was passed off to another waitress without being told - so that me and my party were waiting for refills and to order more courses without knowing who to go to. We actually had to get up and find someone twice. That kind of thing should not happen - their take-out person also seems preoccuppied but that's another story I guess. Pros: Great decor, atmosphere, and fries Cons: Service is sketchy - it could go either way more
