Great Filet 4/27/2012

I did not like this place the first time I went but someone suggested that i try the filet.... OMG its crazy good!!! The filet just melted in my mouth and I was sold. The reason I'm not leaving 5 stars is because of the salad and other sides were sub par with the main dish. more

No Frills, Just Good Steak 11/21/2011

Decided to try it although some reviews here were mixed. The place is VERY retro, tile floors, juke box playing Mob Hits (Sinatra, Como, etc), and modestly decorated. Wooden tables with wooden slat-back chairs. Don't come here expecting a lot of flash and ambience; this is a modest steakhouse, serving GREAT steak-it's prime dry-aged beef which will tend to be a little tougher than choice wet-aged beef served in nearly all steak houses these days but dry-aged is about 100% more flavorful. Menu, as in most steak houses, is ala carte. I chose a NY strip medium rare, sauteed spinach, and au gratin potatos. Had a scotch and water before dinner and it was served in an old-fashioned diner water glass. Glass of wine with dinner, and the manager made me his version of New Orlean's famous Sazerac after dinner. Your basic eat-and-get-the-hell out kind of place. Would go back in a heartbeat. Great meal and a great value. I wish Virginia Beach or Richmond had a place like this and this good. Seems like some reviewers here have limited knowlege of beef and steak houses in general. more

The Only Bad Place We Dined At in New Orleans 2/13/2011

We recently went to New Orleans for the first time and of all the amazing places we visited, I simply cannot understand the good reviews for this place. It is over priced, the service is mediocre and there is no atmosphere to make up for any of it. There were 17 adults and we were given 5 menus. Everything is a la carte, including the garlic bread. $25.00 for the steak alone which requires a steak knife. And the salad is ridiculous. Lettuce, 1/8 slice of tomato and dripping in dressing on a small plate for $4.50. Would never eat there again. Can't understand it being a local's place at all. more

The worst steak we have ever eaten 11/20/2010

Though our review is date in 2010, we went to this restaurant in 2006. This was the worst food we have ever eaten. The steak was thin, tough and fatty. We could not eat most of it. We had heard of the great food for years and were shocked at how at the poor quality of the steak. We will never go back to this restaurant. If we could give it less than one star we would. more

I like steak. I love this place's steak. 3/2/2009

I went here back during hurricane Ike. Me and about 14 friends came in from Houston and were knocked back by the food here. They put us in a back room and we were taken care of. The food was awesome. The place is no frills and does not try to impress you with the decor or some fancy wine list. It just has serious steaks. I am taking my wife there this weekend. Pros: Steaks. Steaks. Steaks. Cons: Buying a coke at a time. more

No frills, No BS, Just a Damn Good Steak 5/7/2007

This is my family's favorite steakhouse for years. In contrast to Ruth's Chris or the other fancier steakhouses around town, this place cuts through the BS to make the most amazing steaks I've ever had. The casual atmosphere makes for a great family dinner, or bring a buddy for a steak and a beer while you watch the game on the big TVs. If you're in for the romantic bit, there are private booths. Pros: Dressy or Casual, Amazing Steaks Cons: watch yourself in the surrounding neighborhood more

I've moved north for graduate school and I miss this place unbelievably. When I come home to New Orleans to visit, my family celebrates by going out to our favorite place - Crescent City. The steaks are affordable and absolutely unbelievable. The wait staff and owners are polite and attentive, and we've made friends over the years. If you don't mind skipping all the ceremony of having your napkin folded when you get up to take a leak (what real man actually likes that?), but you want a great evening with family or friends over mind-blowing steaks, go to Crescent City. It's a landmark. Pros: Dressy or Casual, Amazing Steaks Cons: watch yourself in the surrounding neighborhood more

What A Steak House Should Be..... 6/15/2005

Forget all the big time steak houses and head to Crescent City Steaks! Visiting NOLA, I used citysearch to find a good steak house. My friends and I visited and we were NOT disappointed! WOW! The steak was cooked to perfection.....never had better. Not to mention the wonderful garlic bread, potatos and glass bottle cokes. We sat in one of the private boothes and it gave our meal such charm....it was a great restaurant and we had excellent service on top of the fabulous meal. Pros: Value, Steaks, Personal Attention Cons: none more

For God's sake, go there! Do you like your steaks to be served sizzling in a pool of garlic butter? Does that sound good to you? If not, if you prefer cold bean sprouts/falafel/goat cheese quiche or some other Hollywood liberal food, avoid this place. It is old fashioned, friendly, laid back, and serves big, super tasty, well marbled, prime steaks sizzling in a pool of garlic butter.... Did I already mention that? Sound good? One serious recommendation, when you travel from city to city, "rare" and "medium" change meanings. I think in New Orleans, including at Crescent City, they tend to cook steak less than in my home of Ohio, so if you like medium-rare, you might ask for medium, etc. What a great steakhouse. I don't go to New Orleans to eat steak as a rule (and I go there often). But this is my one exception. Pros: Great steaks, atmosphere more

The best steaks and side dishes! 6/24/2004

I love this steak house. My husband and I used to go there often and somehow we just forgot about it. But a friend recently gave us a gift certificate and since we used it to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary we have been back at least three times. The steaks are wonderful and cooked to order. Their side items are so delicious that even a vegetarian would be happy eating there. I highly recommend it especially the filet and the lyonnaise potatoes!!!!! Pros: good parking, excellent service, dressy or casual more

My family has been going to Crescent City Steakhouse for years. Although my wife and I hadn't been in a couple of years, we recently had the pleasure of dinning there last weekend. The food is as fantastic as it ever was. Reading these other reviews makes my mouth water. Crescent City is THE place for steaks in New Orleans. Pros: Great food, Inexpensive, Good ambiance more
