Fried green tomatoes are supposed to be green? Not here! Food was edible, but that's about it. Wait staff didn't listen, but brought the food. Really, not very good at al...

Editorial review from Citysearch 9/26/2013

I was born and raised in New Orleans Louisiana and I’m not a youngster. I lived from one end to the other end of Southern Louisiana through out my life. I speak Cajun French fluently. I was hanging out with some of my friends and they mention this restaurant that served Louisiana food that suppose to taste really good so I had to check it out. The second week of August I went to Creola web page and read the complete history and reviews that they posted about themselves also to see if reservations were necessary. The site said nothing about needing a reservation, not one word. I told my girlfriend we were going out to dinner she wanted to know were I told her it was a surprise. We drove 34 miles one way. We arrived at the restaurant about 4:15 pm on a Saturday. We were first meet by a young lady somewhere in her late 20’s early 30’s she looked to be of a European descent. The first thing she said “do you have a reservation” I told her there was nothing mention about needing a reservation. I look around the complete restaurant there were about 20 tables and only three were occupied. She said “I have one table but I need it back by 7:00 o’clock” she waited again and said “I have one other table but I need it back by 7:30. So she seats us at the table that she said she needed back by 7:30. All the other servers at this restaurant were great and we had no problems with them. The server’s were from European descents possible from France I don’t know, none were originally from Louisiana. You are not able to see into the kitchen. While waiting for the food to come out a couple were being seated by the same young lady she went to a table and the couple stopped at a different table and they said that they wanted to be seated at this table and not at the one she was showing. The young lady said ok, and the couple was seated at that table. What happen to the tables that had to be given to special people with no reservations? Can you tell me what’s wrong with that picture? I order $118.00 of food that included two drinks. The original New Orleans Hurricane Drink is a dark red in color not a light pink. My girlfriend order a large Gumbo she tried one spoon and she pushed it away I asked her what’s wrong she said that’s not gumbo. I tried it; it was some kind of roux with vegetables and lots of seasoning not like any gumbo I’ve every tasted before. Bottom line get rid of the girl that greets your guest and get somebody that is really from Southern Louisiana to do your cooking and not somebody from a Culinary School. One more thing, just because you’re from Louisiana doesn’t mean you can cook. Lots of people from New Orleans can’t cook all that well. Most folks from Northern Louisiana can cook breakfast and nothing else. If you’re looking for good Cajun cooking Cerola is not it, you need to go around Lafayette Louisiana and the surrounding areas. more

Exceptional food, GREAT service 4/19/2009

My family have visited Creola at least a dozen times now. The flavors are distinct and the food nicely presented. They even served my young son fried pickles (not on their menu) after he returned from New Orleans and metioned how good they were! Exceptional service!! Pros: astounding flavors, friendly Cons: small parking lot more

Best Bread Pudding Ever 3/5/2009

Really nice quiet place. Awesome food, even better desserts more

Great food at great prices. 1/30/2008

This place has the best Gumbo I've ever tasted. Monday's are Mardi Gras Madness where you can get a four-course meal for $25 (Appetizer, Soup or Salad, Entree & Dessert), What a Deal!!!! They have items on the menu for the folks who don't like spicy food too. A can't miss!!! Try it you'll like it. Pros: Great food and Staff Cons: parking can be a little problem, small lot more

Wonderful experience! 4/21/2007

Excellent atmosphere, service and food. Crawfish, alligator and soft shell crab were especially good. Doing the CreoLa combination allows you to add soup, salad and desert to entree' for only $13. Make sure you get the beignets and chicory coffee. Food was absolutely fantastic! I'm just visiting and staying by the SF Airport and it was very easy to find - only 10 miles from SFO and easy to get to using 101. HIghly recommended! Pros: Atmosphere, food, and service all top notch Cons: None - everything was outstanding! more

Good food but the ambiance was just ok... 12/1/2006

I took three freinds visiting from out of town here for dinner. I thought that the staff was very nice and the food was really good. The only negative thing that I would say is that it's not exactly the best looking place. It's really understated, made to look like a southern home (I guess). I was hopeing it would look a little more upscale or modern. I probably wouldn't take visiting guest here again BUT if you are looking for a good casual dinner this is the place! Pros: Good Food Cons: Restaurant Decor.... more

It rocks! 10/31/2006

Great cajun alifornia menu. The chef/owner is knowledgable and a gentleman. The food is top-shelf....the Ahi is my favorite and the bread pudding is some of the best in the west. Good wine menu, friendly staff. more

Best Filet Mignon on the Peninsula 9/21/2006

This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time - and I don't even eat seafood!! The salads are always fabulous and the filet mignon is by far the best I've found on the Peninsula. The service is always great and the wine list is reasonable and offers a substantial variety. The owner is very nice and sometimes comes by your table just to say hello and ask if everything is okay. It can get crowded and you should definitely have reservations. It's a great place for a romantic dinner for two, but I also go their with my parents. Pros: Food, wine selection, non-seafood items available Cons: Small dining area more

Delicious Food 12/29/2005

Although I am no expert in Cajun food, I found the food here wonderful. The Crawfish Etouffee is my favorite, and I usually get this as an entree by itself (the menu has it as a combo). I also recommend going the route of adding soup, salad and dessert. The bisque and bread pudding are a must, and the bluenote salad is yummy. I have had several of their specials (lambchops, heirloom tomoto salad) and they have been excellent. The staff is friendly, the dining area is small, but the space between tables is comfortable. Definitely a nice place for a dinner date, or just to have good food with friends. Pros: food more

A Gem of a restaurant! 12/5/2005

Finally, a nice place to go in the area when you don't just want a steak and mashed potatoes. Try the salmon! The spices are just right...in fact, I could have stood for a little more but it's better to err on the side of caution considering the crowd. Definitely recommended for nice ""date night"". more

highly recommended 10/24/2005

i've eaten here three times and each has been a wonderful experience. everything i've tasted on their menu has been so delicious. the cornbread stuffing that comes with the sunday chicken is a must try. it's not what you expect, but is really tasty. the service is also wonderful here. it's very busy on weekends, so unless you want to wait forever, i suggest making reservations. more

good creole food 7/13/2005

the crawfish etouffee is good. i've also had the jambalaya and gumbo in the past. the beignets are always good. just went there a few weeks ago and the food is still good, price is average, portions are a little small if you're just having an entree. service is always good. recommend making reservations for weekend nights. Pros: food, parking, ambience Cons: price, portions more

Must-do Creole food 9/30/2004

The inside of the restaurant is in stark contrast with the understated approach. The ambience is wonderful, service outstanding, and food amazing. Try the Crawfish hushpuppies for starters. We once tried an appetizer special that was delicious - salmon tacos. On the main course, the Shrimp Creole is to die for. Finish up with their outstanding bread pudding, or French silk. Only complaint - they could do with a better wine list. But that shouldn't hold you back from frequenting this restaurant as much as we do :) Pros: Good value, Good parking, Not crowded more

A Taste of New Orleans 9/3/2004

Hubby & I are trying to try different restaurants in San Carlos, and we found this one on Citysearch. Tomatoes were in season, so I had the caprese salad as an appetizer (heirloom tomatoes & mozarella). It was the *best* caprese salad I'd ever eaten. For the main course, I had some dish with soft shell crab & shrimp which was delicious. I can't remember what hubby ate but he liked it. Unfortunately, I think it's an overlooked restaurant because its on a quiet stretch of El Camino Real without many stores around. If you enjoy cajun food, you should definitely try CreoLa. Don't miss out on this hidden gem. Pros: Food, Ambience more

Wonderful food, great value 11/26/2003

California interpretation of down-home southern cookin'. Very tasty, very fresh. Not as spicy as I would have liked. The ""dinner"" add-on (soup, salad, and dessert) is an outstanding value, especially if you share it. Pros: Good Value, Great Food Cons: Not enough spice more
