Tip From Former Energy Inspector:\r \r These guys (Buchers) are way ahead of the curve. They are on the cutting edge of this energy conservation stuff. I used to inspect homes for an energy auditing firm and I always learned a thing or two on Bucher's jobs. They have their employees trained and they know what they are doing. One of the most interesting/impressive/distinct traits is also they are willing to learn. If I ever had a suggestion for them on improving their homes over the years they were open ears as opposed to most builders who tried to explain to me why I was wrong and should just do my job and move on. Unfortunatley due to life circumstances I am not in the market for a new home, however one of my good friends recently built with the Buchers and he was very satisfied. I was a little worried when the Buchers were building for him, because to be honest he can be very difficult and unreasonable. However they somehow managed to surpass his expectations and both he and his wife are very happy with the quality of product and service they have received. They and I would strongly recommend the Buchers. The best part is you know if there is ever an issue they will be here just as they have for the past 30 something years. more

High Quality Product. High Quality Service. The Highest of Quality People:\r \r I am currently having my home built by the Buchers in NW Indiana. I have heard all the building stories from so many collegues. All I can say is my process has been very enjoyable and fairly stress free. I am thrilled with the ideas and integrity I have seen from the Buchers and all their employees and sub contractors. The product is very good, which is important, but even more important is the relationships and trust this group has earned. I can see why they have weathered the downturn and their business has grown even during the terrible housing market. Today Dan humbly told me they currently have 12 homes under construction and they are already filling orders for 2013. Most other builders I know are working second jobs or scraping by. I think there is a reason these guys are so busy. It is obvious with their very fair pricing, high quality work, and great relationships with their customers. I would encourage anyone to build with them if they have the time for the project. From talking to Dan they are not really wanting to expand or take on more than they can personally oversee. I would highly recommend this company from my experience. more

I have been around NW IN most of my life and I have always kept a close eye on local builders. I have seen tons of them come and go and and sometimes even come back under other names. There are a couple who stand out in my mind as approve reproach. One of these companies happens to be the Buchers. Within the last year I selected them to build my families home. I can honestly say I am thrilled with the product and service I received. Their quality is excellent. Is the home 100% perfect? No. 100% perfect homes do not exist. New homes are made from man and from a combination of man made and natural products. However is it VERY VERY good? Yes. It is as close to perfect as I have seen, and I have traveled the country and stayed in many very nice homes. What was perfect, was the amount Bryan and his team cared about our project. They take so much pride and care in their work and in the team they have assembled. I would say I am confident you will not be disappointed if you build with the Buchers. more

We moved into Valparaiso as a result of my husbands work transfer. We are at the point in our lives where we wanted what we want....a custom home. We did not have any idea of what local builders to use. I started asking around while we were living in an apartment and the name I kept hearing repeated was Bucher. So we contacted them and were impressed with their knowledge and honesty from the start. As we went thru the process I can say that it was a joy and fun building my new home. I feel like I got a great value and several upgrades along the way that I was not charged for. However, the thing I am really happy about it is the quality. I didn't realize it when I was shopping home builders, but I ended up getting so much more with my house than others would have offered (95% furances, energy star HERS rating was 54, i got to pick all my finishes, workmanship is very very good, etc.). These guys are a hands on builder who do everything they can to build a great product. I would reccomend them to everyone. They not only do what they say they are going to, they actually give you much more than they say they will. more

I have a new home (4,722 sq ft) that the Buchers built for me in 2010. Having been here for a couple years now, I have to say I am impressed with the efficiency of this home. I have two 95% furances and my house seems built very tight. My energy bills are less than my previous home that was 2,060 square feet. I must say the Buchers home was $11,500 more than another I was considering. I figured that was costing me about $60 a month more to own their home. However in talking to my friend (who bought the home by another builder we were considering) my utility bils are averaging $78 a month lower than his. So while I get to deduct the interest on the extra money I paid plus I have the asset of having a higher quality home, my friend is throwing his money literally out the window every month. My extra payment of $60 a month will be the same for 30 years, while I am sure his utility payments are only going to increase. Please consider these things when purchasing a new home. You will be glad you did. more

I built a home with Buchers in Valparaiso in February of 2004. After 8 years I am proud to say I still do not have a single drywall crack or nail pop. I think this is proof to the quality that goes into the framing and structure on these homes. I thought about them the other other day when I drove past one of their homes under construction. I stopped the jobsite just to ""check things out"" and I was surprised to see most of the same guys there who had worked on my house. It was great catching up with them. My daughter is getting ready to start her new house in the spring and she has decided to go with the Buchers as well. more

I am a sub contractor in NWI. I had been trying to get in with the Buchers for 6 years. Finally their existing sub contractor retired (after 22 years working for the Buchers) and I was allowed the chance to interview for the position. These guys are great. I am always paid within 5 days. I hear nothing but horror stories from other subs who continually are strung along by their builders and sometimes never get paid. I know a few guys who worked for some builders who went out of business only to open up under other names and continue doing business. I am thrilled for the change to work for the Buchers who have been in business under the same name for 28 years. It is great working for a company who does nothing but encourage me to do only the best that can possibly be done. I am grateful. more

In todays day and age it is hard to come by companies that can be trusted. I wish I could say that I had bought a Bucher Home. I had a signed contract for a home and lot with the Buchers, however early on in the project I had a family event change my entire financial situation. I expressed this with the Buchers and even though they had several thousand dollars invested in the project already they refunded me my NON-refundable deposit 100%. Yes that is right, they fully refunded my NON-refundable deposit. There are not many companies out there that would do this. When things change in my life I will no doubt be signing a contract with the Buchers to build my dream home. I can't wait for that day. more

I was impressed. I have had 5 houses built over my life. I have been thru 5 builders. They were some of the most recognizable names of Porter and Lake County. To say I am picky would be an understatement. I look at all the little things and spent alot of time studying the framing and ""behind the drywall"" components of a Bucher Home. Noone builds like these guys anymore except one other builder in Valpo (Schneider Builders). I would encourage anyone interested in building to do your homework and can promise you that in going with Bucher you will not be disappointed. They were so accomadating to my (sometimes demanding and challenging) requests. If you understand what you are buying, you can not beat the Buchers quality and pricing. As I mentioned earlier, I have built with 5 builders 5 different homes.......I am sure I will build a 6th home as my life changes, but it will be again with that 5th builder, Bucher. more

The Buchers are the best. I had them do several remodel projects for me over the years and they continually went above and beyond. They did not charge for things they should have and I have seen first hand how these guys mean what they say. In the past I have referred them to several people and I will continue to do so. This group is top notch and represents a quality company that operates with integrity. They continue to employ the same carpenters and sub contractors year in and year out which is comforting also. I feel very fortunate to have had the chance to know them and have them work with me. more

I have had the Bucher's do numerous projects for me and my family over the years. They are the most honest and upstanding people out there. Their work is fantastic. They are one of the last builders around who truly understands construction. I don't know how long they have been in business but I do know it has been longer than anyone else I can think of and they have been operating under the same name for all those years. Imagine that! I would encourage and reccomend them to everyone I know. I have heard nothing but fantastic things about them. more

Our Bucher Construction home is beautiful to look at but is a mess. We have lived here 2 yrs and have had trouble from the beginning. The home has 2 hot water heaters. They have both gone out, the last one's tank split!! Our finished basement has water damage and there was no warrentee because the Buchers got it for free! The unfinished part of the basement has a drain but the floor was poured sloping away from it. The geothermal htg/cooling system leaks regularly. Bryans fix was to build a damn around it! It should have been a bigger unit due to the size of our home. We have to put in an entirely new system! The htg/cooling ductwork is too small and not enough was installed. The front porch is cracking at both corners and what started as a crack is now a 1/4 -3/8"" gap. The front pillars were made of a material that absorbs water and then set directly on top of the cement porch. They are already rotting. We asked if the well water smelled and were assured it did not. We had to install a $3,000.00 water treatment system to get rid of the sulfur odor. We were deliberately mislead on the property line. We literally could not mow / enter out backyard without going through our neighbors property! We just purchased a small part of our neighbors side yard so we could enter ours! Our driveway is a mosaic of cracks and is crumbling is spots. These are just the huge issues. There have been many small ones. Some of the small issues have been corrected by Buchers. The large ones are always ignored. Our last meeting with Bryan was 2 weeks ago and he promised to work something out by Fri. Fri came and went and we heard nothing from Bryan. We did not build this home. It was Bryan's home. I will be filing complaints with the BBB, and Attorney General's office. We will probably get no satisfaction but at least others will be warned and not taken advantage of like we were. more

I have been able to locate pre-sold spec homes in Valparaiso, Indiana through Grande Prairie that fit my budget while meeting my high expectations. more
