Positive Experience and Helpful Staff 12/8/2010

I recently had Compass Engineering in Portland, Oregon perform engineering and surveying work for a property survey and new driveway design. The engineers helped me with approvals from the City of Portland for the driveway work. I also had a boundary line conflict with my neighbor which Compass Engineering helped me resolve. The staff at Compass Engineering was both friendly and professional. They were more than willing to do what was necessary to complete the work in a timely manner and answered any questions I had in regards to the work; the job was within the estimated budget which was an added bonus in this economy. I would highly recommend Compass Engineering and if I needed any additional work, would not hesitate to use them. D. L. Dyer more

Buyer Beware 11/19/2010

I used Compass Engineering in the past (years ago) and decided to use them for my recent development project. The young woman that was in charge of my project (an engineer) blew the budget. My development required planning services in addition to engineering design. The woman doing the engineering decided to tackle the planning work and practically used up the entire budget just getting planning approvals. It was clear she was learing on my dime. The work ended up costing me way more than proposed because of this. In addition, every single time I called to follow up with her she was always, ""out of the office"", ""gone for the day"" or just ""not in the office today"". Not very professional. Get several estimates and make sure you are hiring a professional with experience. more

Knowledgeable and Creative Company 11/9/2010

I was referred to Compass Engineering by a friend. With each call to Compass, I was greeted with a courteous receptionist and then directed to the correct person to help me with my questions. I had my property surveyed by Compass Engineering this year to locate my property lines. With obstacles in the way such as brush and trees, they were able to locate my corners and property lines in a short period of time. With their help, I was able to correctly determine where my property boundaries were located and resolve some issues I had with my neighbors. Their billing was descriptive and at a fair price. I selected Compass based on their initial quote to me and because of the professional responses I received from my questions. I would highly recommend Compass Engineering. more

Bad Customer Service Only Gets Worse! 8/31/2009

Either this firm is going out of business anyway so doesn't care about customer service or has a lot to learn. Calls are not returned promptly, if ever, and they are rude when you do talk to someone. There seems to have been a massive lay off at this firm recently as all the people I used to speak with are ""no longer with us"".\r Billing is terrible and too high for the poor quality work that was produced. When I asked to speak to the bookkeeper she was nasty and unhelpful and refused to give me a more detailed accounting of services provided. There are a lot of firms out there who provide the same services that these people do and will work for your business. You do not need to give your hard earned money to these people and you shouldn't. Pros: Even less than before Cons: Not enough space to list them more

Very poor work 5/5/2009

Apparently with the building downturn came a downturn in quality from this engineering company. \r \r The work, was lazy, communication was poor, the bills were inflated...and when trying to settle up the final bill, I was never given an itemized invoice or copies of work. Just a internal billable hours document. \r \r When I pressed for a better invoice and copies of documents and pictures, for my files, I was ignored and sent to collections...even though I made it clear I had every intention of paying in full after I was given evidence of their work and copies of documents. \r \r Do yourself a favor and find a firm that is more professional. Pros: Not much Cons: Inflated bills, lazy work, poor communication more
